In all honesty, the one of the best things about being a plant owner are my mood and mental health are improving when I’m around these pets. They all have their own personalities and presence, you just need to sit with them and read a book or listen to some music (of course, music that THEY like..) and observe them as the light penetrates their leaves. The other best thing is that you want to learn about them to understand more and become a better plant parent. Then you end up becoming a part of a lovely community like this. Thank you Richard for your effort you put in these amazing and funny videos and plant the seeds of knowledge.
Love it Thank you 😊
I totally agree, it's a lovely cosy feeling when you can just sit peaceful but not totally lonely. All of the plants I have I always talk to, some people think I'm nuts but if you take care of them then they repay you by growing beautifully, my golden pothos called Midas is coming on fine, my snake plant called Sid, and my Monsteraalled Count Plantula are all growing beautifully.
I just trimmed off all the “suckers”. That totally explains why my monstera has not been flourishing. Thanks again!
You bet!
Most likely lack of light, not the "suckers"
I adopted a monstera deliciosa (named Mike) from a friend about 13 years ago. He's moved with me from Norfolk to London, and in about 8 home moves since. In honesty, he's a bit of a zombie plant, because over those years I have had to break up the original plant and take cuttings/repot when he became too large for either the space I was in, or too large to move in one piece - his current form is two separate rooted cuttings in the same pot, growing up a piece of timber we removed as part of our current home renovations (you really do not need a moss pole). After this last repot - about a year ago - he's getting his first leaf with holes on one of the vines, following 5 only with slits.
I'd advise anybody considering getting a monstera that it is like having a pet, or even an extra member of the family: they do become very large, and you'll find yourself taking it into account when you're looking at moving home (as I have done for the past 10 years).
😂 very true. If I was to move I’ve no idea how I’d get my large one out the bedroom
Conversation in a monstera-owner’s house: ‘have you seen my glasses, darling?’ ‘Yes, they are in the monstera’s room.’
Haha, the Monstera's room is the one I sleep in.
The best thing about mine is I have put it in front of the window, no body can really see inside the house and instead of me just seeing front doors of other people's houses and cars all I see is my beautiful little Monstera plant called Count Plantula. He's seems happy enough and I am because he has just grown another leaf with five fenistrations, two of which are inside the leaf and another growing from the bottom. 🌿🌿🌿.
Here is a question to anybody out there, do you think plants feel a bit pushed out when you buy another plant even though you talk and look after them all, I know they sense pain as I have read about it and look sad if you don't care about them, I know it might be a nutty question to ask but I'm one of those people, if I don't ask it will niggle me that's why I always tell people if they think some questions you ask are nuts there's bound to be someone who wants to ask the same question but hasn't got the guts to do it. 🌿🐛🐞.
I'd recommend using a roll of Velcro strip instead of a string when tying up plants. It's easier to apply and re-adjust for tightness as the plant grows + it's wider than the string thus it's less likely to damage the stem of the plant.
Just my two pence 🙂 Velcro strip is string 2.0
Agree with that 💯
You have a brilliant sense of humour and a huge amount of plant knowledge. Perfect combination!😂
Wow, thank you!
My Monstera delisioca was dying, 1 stem barely, i moved it into a sunnier position and watered it guided by moisture metre, then spray the leaves once in while. Now i have 6 flourishing green leaves.
Very good!
Hell yea!!! 🎉🎉🎉
I had a 1 leaf monstera that has 13(14 coming) and it’s my favorite. Nothing like a comeback story lol
I got a Monstera a few years ago and it suffered a lot :D I was almost giving up on it...and then, after watching your video about cutting off the roots, I decided to give it one more chance. I cut off some of the roots, planted it with fresh soil...and well: it worked. It's growing beautifuly and has big lucious leaves.
Great to hear!
A coworker gave me 3 leaves of her monstera back in 2007. I've had to cut it back many times because it was going thru the ceiling! LOL. I sent some clippings to friends in other areas of my country and they are growing a big plant too. I never turn mine either. It's been in one spot for 9 yrs. now and has been repotted with a metal arbor about 3 yrs. ago. It's so big and I know it will need to be cut back in the next year or so. It likes to be left alone. Just water it and I don't even feed it cuz I don't want it to grow faster! LOL Love your videos of late!! I need the giggle!!
Cracking plant!
I WANT A PIECE!💜
Don't forget that vines, like the Monstera Deliciosa have a front and back side. The plank should be on the side with the aerial roots, so that they can grip on to the support.
My monstera is pretty happy in west facing room, not a lot of fenestration, but some. This video was helpful. I didn’t know to prune the new, young leaves, so Thank you!
You bet!
Yep 👍
Mine is all over the place. One day it looks like i got the back the right way then a week later it seems to have moved so this tip about the aerial roots should help.xta.
@@SheffieldMadePlants lol if I became a plant parent the poor critters would run to the hills and leave me in the dust.
Guess I'm cutting suckers tomorrow 😀
Thank you for a lot of good and useful tips about the Monstera
My Deliciosa is living about six feet away from my South facing living room window... just like in your case, the best spots are already taken. Its so big now, that even if I did move it close to the window, it would block off a lot of sunlight from other plants. It seems to enjoy life in its current location, growing fast with lots of very dark green leaves and always more on the way... I've had it for two years now, and it's grown so much...This thing will be frigging huge in five years time 😬😃
Take care and have a nice weekend to you and everyone here
Sounds like a cracking plant. Have a nice weekend too
My monsters is not growing at all
@AnnE-dj1cw 😢 Watch some of Richard's videos aimed at the growth of Monsteras or lack thereof. You're bound to find the answer. ❤
The cheapest monastera I’ve ever found was in Morrisons. It was a tinny wee thing & it was £1.20! I was over the moon because I’d looked at a wee one in Dobbies & it was £9, I’d put it back because I couldn’t justify £9 for such a wee plant. I was with my daughter & she literally lives right next door to a Morrisons. We decided to pick up some dinner before going to her house. The plants they have are really very reasonable & I left with £40 worth of their plants & they are all still doing very well.
That’s a steal!
They might still have them it was only about a month ago?
Thank you for this ! I actually have been staring at those suckers thinking I should prune them but I was nervous lol now I’m confident it’s a good decision 😊
You’ve got this ✊
Hello from Indiana USA 🇺🇸!!! You my over the sea friend have taught me so much!!! I know give my plants a sink shower 🚿 when I water them so to keep leaves dust free,,, I think they enjoy that cause they are growing!!! Ohh. Love it when I wake up and you have posted new video so it’s you and me having coffee together ❤. Tell the wife I’m harmless across the 🌊 ❤
Will do haha
I made the fatal mistake of ignoring my Md in the conservatory, apart from watering and dusting, I just left it alone. It has now taken over the conservatory, it is supported with wooden stakes in concrete ( in plant pots) 3 of them. It has loads of slits and is a real monster!
I'd say that's a nice problem to have no?
I just got one of these little suckers! It was ugly so I chopped it up into a bunch of cuttings. I’m impatiently waiting for them to root so I can try to grow a less ugly monstera. Thanks for the great video!
😆😅😂👺✂️
My pleasure 😊
Mr. Sheffield, you're a bloody legend! Stay healthy and happy, also for your plants. Good luck!
Thank you 😊 you too!
It took my monstera 4 years to sprout first fenestrated leaves. 4 years and many mistakes on my part. Like not keeping it in enough light, not repotting it, cutting leaves randomly, etc. Once i moved it closer to the window and repotted it to a bigger pot, put the aerial roots in the soil, it started growing big, fenestrated leaves.
Great stuff 👍
Watching this video after just watering my Monsteras and having a Ficus Lyrata in a very big pot, an idea popped up of putting a Monstera with that Ficus in its pot. Thirty years ago I had a Ficus in a bucket that, after it reached my ceiling started dropping its lower leaves. The current Ficus is in a very large pot (70cm wide x 60cm high) and after it reached the ceiling started growing a branch about halfway up. However, the lower leaves have started to look a bit dry/crispy and the other day one fell off after touching it.
What I will do is let the Ficus be the tree that the Monstera can use to grow up in.
Sometimes simple ideas can give me so much joy 😂
Love the sound of that
Mine's about 5 years old, and i think those early suckers are still on there. I plant all the aerial roots, and recently the best fenestrated new baby leaf has appeared. Im one happy momma! Great to see a new video, with the silly asides. 😀
Great stuff 👍
My monstera has had a tough life of cold, thaw, scale 🤢 but has pride of place at the bay window and loving life 🤩 thanks for the tips
You bet!
You have no idea how happy I get when I see that you uploaded yet again a new video!!
I'm so glad!
This evening I finall joined the Monstera gang. I have been fancying one for quite a while and saw a pretty huge one for £16. I found £5 on the floor on the way in and thought why not.
Now I'm in research mode. It could probably do with tying in but I'm going to give it a couple of weeks to settle in to the family and its new home before I start picking and poking.
Good idea 👍
Welcome! I learned so much trying to figure out how to care for my Monstera baby and what could be wrong with it and why it was crying/sweating and now I'm hooked and am a house plant person. I am thankful for my ADHD which leads to procrastinating which always means a few days between wanting to do something (like pruning or repotting or making a moss pole) and actually doing it, which I'm learning is good to let the plants just chill for a bit to get used to the new place and light and smells.
1 and a half minute into the video and you sir deserved my like with that calm way of talking and funny jokes😄 Very good content: informative, funny, full of life :)
Thanks!
Thank you for that great video! I got a cutting with 2 leaves about 3 months ago, it has 5 or 6 leaves now and I noticed those baby leaves at the bottom and was wondering about them, got my answer now 🥰🙏🏼
Thanks for watching 😁
I remember when ours got their first holes. I panicked and thought it was bugs, until my wife told me they were supposed to do it...
😂 easy mistake to make
Omg you’re so funny! When I need a good laugh I watch one of your videos. They so brighten up the atmosphere. Plus it’s nice to have a plant buddy lol
Thank you so much!!
Great info on monstera plant and their care, and "fenestration" (new word for me 😂 Yay!). I have had my monstera sine 2019 and has really been very slow growing. This year it produced two new leaves that finally show some of the split leaves, err fenestration.
That is awesome!
A fenestration should actually be a hole not a slit. Since it comes from the Latin word for window. The term for a slit is pinnation
@@jhndr0niathanks for correcting me. I might have gone around pointing out slits as fenestration, I mean window 😂 I will need to brush up on my Latin. From now on when someone ask why there are holes on my monstera plant, I will have a proper response. Oh, you mean the fenestration?
Just based on how funny you are, I clicked 'subscribe' before the half point of this video. Don't be offended because I still finished the whole thing, and it's one of the most informative plant videos I've encountered :)
You’re a ⭐️
we have a monstera growing on our shade house as an end wall. it plugs a gap of about 5 feet by 8 feet, every couple of years i have cut it back, it's been in this place for almost 40 years. every year we get between 6 and 10 pieces of fruit, even though I hack it every few years. our average winter daily temperature is between 10- and 15-degrees c, while our summers hit 35 to 40 degrees c. it only gets natural rainfall and the spillage that occurs from watering other plants. the only problem I have is that no matter what I do, I simply cannot get the fruit to ripen, and when it does start to ripen, the birds devour it. oh yeah, I'm in Australia.
Where are you? It sounds like a monster
Put some type of netting or cage over the fruit until it's ripe enough to eat
@@SheffieldMadePlants
located in Australia, in a semi-arid/temperate zone. some of the aerial roots are 2cm + in diameter with part of the trunk around 24cm in diameter. I prune twice a year beginning of winter and end of summer. and average around 6 to 8 good cuttings each time. (trunk and 3 or 4 leaves with aerial roots)
The posts that support the shade house are about 5 feet apart and the trunk wraps around both these, and the top support/roof is almost 8 feet high. this plant will completely cover in this space and then extends out into the pathway 5 to 6 feet. the aerial rots are in excess of 6 feet in length and are being cut back weekly to try and contain it. the fruit gets to a point of starting to change colour, then you turn around and its black and dried or the birds have half eaten them. i have tried bringing them inside but they just don't seem to want to ripen for me. i have actually considered removing it but then think of all the hard work that would need to be done in repaving and digging out the rootball, and just say 'blow it, its easier to grap a saw and prune it'
@@amberdavis7243 monstera are classified as a sub-tropical plant. we are in a semi-arid / temperate climate. we =simply do not have the correct weather conditions that facilitate proper ripening of the fruit. so, placing anything around the fruit would be wasteful. the plant is in what can only be described as the 'goldilocks position'.
Bit of a misconception with pruning. Leaves cant take away energy from other leaves, unless physically blocking sunlight. the fenestration is the monsteras adaption to that.
Pruning won't literally redirect energy away from other the older leaves, what's actually happening is pruning stimulates a chemicals that promotes root growth and budding.
The smaller leaves aren't hindering the plant in any way. What pruning does is simple waking the plant up and having it choose fight or flight, hence new growth.
And less is always more, every big of green removed forced the plant to drop a root as well. So if you're pruning heavily, you will have to repot and remove dead roots more often. That's why bonsai is so tedious.
Another thing to consider is time and place, unless you are using grow lights do not prune monstera in autumn or winter! This will cause your plants to etiolate and stretch, because you can't sustain new growth with limited winter light.
Last few things, if you do prune do it in stages, ie take the leave off of the stem and wait for the stem to yellow before taking it off, this allows it to soak up some of its energy reserves, lopping it right away would cause it's corresponding root to die. Next, dont chop the aerial roots. It puts them out for a reason and pruning (including aerial root pruning) will stimulate more growth, but in this case it makes it send out larger aerial roots, so pruning the aerial roots does the opposite effect. Much better doing what the author said and rooting them into the ground or a coconut coir pole. Last thing, DO NOT PRUNE A THAI CONSTELLATION. They are highly susceptible to root rot and you will need to repot a Thai Constellation twice as often as a regular Monstera (recommended every two years for that Thai). So pruning the Thai would be effectively setting up it's roots for root rot.
Repotting and trimming dead and compact roots is just as effective as pruning, and never prune a rootbound plant without repotting.
Are you a botanist or cell biologist? If not, I suggest you read about the transport of chemical energy to stores in the plant, and the energy requirements for growth of new leaves. I think you'll find that new growths (the suckers) demand more energy from the plant than they produce and draw on the chemical energy in these stores making less available for growth in other parts of the plant. Your representation of energy, its production, transport and use, while appearing correct intuitively, is a little simplistic and incorrect.
I love monsteras and your videos help me take care of mine (and my other plans) thank you so much for helping me be a better plant mom!!!
You bet!
Here is my advice:
-Just one lant per pot (Monstera deliciosa has a big root system)
-Big pot. (for big plant and big rood system).
-Aroid growing media (forexample pine bark, leca, moss, soil)
-Fertilising.
-Enough light
Sounds good
Wow, this video was so helpful. Going to cut those little groupies from my Monstera right now.
I am just now getting into non-aquatic plants. I know it's weird, but I got into aquatic plants first, and even dabbled in terrarium plants.
So, for me, the growth of the monstera looks so familiar. Very much like an anubis. Even how you kind of tie down to something to allow it to grow vine like along the structure.
I laughed out loud at the "They dont have the give to wrap around a pole... your monstera, not your grandad" Not me imagining a grandad on a stripper pole LOL. Thank you so much for this video. I love these plants so much and I'm trying to learn as much as I can in order for them to thrive. Your videos have been SUPER helpful! Thank you!!
Glad you like them 😁
I bought a beautiful one in an 8” pot a few years ago….and watched it slowly decline. Tried everything, then finally unpotted and saved some cuttings which are now growing nicely outside- so now I have 3 to kill. I think it’s a matter of light, or lack of it. I have a lot of tree shade and eaves around the perimeter of my house. They protect the wood siding, but I get almost no light. Had the monstera in a window that gets maybe an hour of morning sun then very low light the rest of the day. I am buying grow lights this month
Sounds like a good plan 👍
Grow lights have transformed my plants - I bought tons of tropical plants with no idea of what they needed. Luckily, realised in time and am now the proud owner of 2 grow lamps, 4 grow bulbs (just in case) and 2 humidifiers. It’s like having a toddler again!
This vid is great ❤
@@mariaonyango7791 I bought an Aspect grow light a few months ago, it’s made a huge difference!
Love your videos. Also love your sense of humor.
Thanks so much!
Unlike the other commenter, I was disappointed that I had to conjure up a picture of one direction from memory 😂. You simply can’t please all the people all the time 😂. Another great video. Thank you.
😂😂😂
Great video! Thank you so much for the information! I just purchased my first monstera and have been binging your videos. Wish me luck!
Awesome! Thank you!
I have one from.the late 60s it's beautiful and very large
I think that the other thing that people need to look out for when purchasing Deliciosa is the difference between small and large form ones. Large forms will get fenestrations way sooner size wise
Definitely 💯
How do you know which one you’re getting? I purchased one with a tag that says monstera deliciosa, but I have no clue if it’s the large or small.
@@annielewis7242 it can be hard to tell when they're small. Often the leaves get bigger and have more fenestrations faster, Large ones have a shorter internodal spacing, tend to be more expensive if they know what they're selling
If you're unsure, I'd suggest asking whoever you're looking to buy off. Hopefully they know. Alternatively, there's a few good Reddit threads and videos that you can look at so that you can see the difference 😊
I love the baby leaves without the holes, ❤
Idea for an experiment: Do plants do better over winter in a room at 18 degrees celsius or 20? The idea being that you'd buy 2x3 common houseplants, put them in a windowsill in the living room and at the same side of the house in a bedroom window upstairs. One sits warmer, but the other gets blasted with less heating.. Of course, humidity would play a factor as well but I am curious if you'd see a difference. I am going into my first winter with a room full of plants and don't know if putting bowls of water on the radiator (and a humidifier on the other side of the room) will keep everything looking happy
Worth experimenting with this winter
I ended up buying small grow tents for some of mine last winter and it definatly helped. But oh no! Now i have double the amount of plants and no room for another tent. Looks like my neighbours are going to be plant sitting this winter.!!
@@princepalmer3329 yeah that tends to happen. A month ago I said to myself 30 plants in my living room is enough, I'm at 36 now 🤣 just keep discovering more plants I want ...
I have a big monstera in my living room which is near my radiator due to space. Last winter I placed a ceramic pot filled with water on top of the radiator and my mostera was absolutely fine. I think the water from the pot replaced most of the moisture lost through the heating being on.
@@LottelinA thanks for sharing your experience and calming my mind 😄😆
You know how to care for houseplants! I know this, because I agree with you so often! :) And growing such beautiful tropical plants in cool and cloudy Sheffield is the proof. I want to stake my monstera now. I'm edified for watching your videos, and my plants and I thank you.
Nice one thanks!
🏆 Best Monstera Care video! And I’ve watched them all. From baby to full Mondtdr care - thank you for this. Question: I have 2 young Monsteras that came planted back-to-back in a 4” pot. The leaves are now facing the same direction. When I repot, should I try to untangle the roots and face them forward? One plant will temporarily be backwards. I’ll be adding a pole. Or can I leave them as they are? Please say leave them 😅
Thanks! It’ll be good to have the pole at the back of the plant where the ariel roots are
@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you for taking the time to answer :)
Done! And the leaves are already turning to fave forward. Wish I could post a pic. I used thrift store bamboo embroidery hoops and a paint stick. My plant(s) are young, so no aerial roots yet except one st the bottom of each going into the soil. I’ll try and tag you on Instagram when I post.
Thank you. This was very useful. I’ve just recently bought a young monstera at ikea and wasn’t sure about those tiny leaves and too scared to do anything with a new plant 😅 and true, they are surprisingly expensive…
Glad it was helpful!
Mine looks like that.Just much larger.I love it doesn't have holes
LOVE YOUR QUIRKINESS VIDEOS I'VE LEARNED SOME MORE THINGS THANK YOU SHEFF
Thanks for watching 😁
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing plants lovely collection beautiful
Thanks for watching 😁
GREAT JOB 👍🏿, AND SENSE OF HUMOR , THANKS 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
The most informative and hilarious video I've seen in awhile😅
Thank you 😊
SEVEN QUID for that poxy piece of wood!!! I nearly fainted!
My houseplants all get a turn outside when it's raining, they seem to thrive in it and it's much easier than cleaning every individual leaf.
I like it 👍
thank you for not using a one direction band pic this time :')
😂
I was well prepared for a picture of them 😂😂
Noooo
Thank you! I'm relatively new to plants hobby, is plant food / fertilizer really necessary?
It’s a good idea if you can. Plant won’t die without it but it’ll grow nicer
yes I purchased a new one only 1 leave is a sprit my monstera is a baby I gave it very little water at first it was not happy it needed more water so I water it’s look happy today the leaves are not droopy. I don’t want to water and get rotten roots. I move to my bedroom because it’s get more sun than where I had it at first .I am trying to learn everything I can . Now you said you cut the baby leaves off because they take strength away from the older leaves is that true?
Oof! That's some serious posting...
I had a huge one years ago, 20yrs old.. a friend fancied it.. I gave it to her , she hired a van took it away... a few months later I asked how it was doing... she binned it as it was getting too big....I didn't kill her...but never gave her a plant ever again...
Outrageous!
Ha! Excellent video! Your explanation for the fenestration on the upper leaves was super helpful! I can't believe that I've never considered that they're simply trying to get sunlight to the bottom of the plant. 🤔 😆
Glad it was helpful!
Only I mean the only time you should cut it back is if all the leaves fell off and no signs of new growth and the vine is still firm and after doing so try down sizing the pot to help it focus on it's leaf growth over roots
I’m not gonna lie, those plant trellises caught my attention!!
They’re very nice
Hello Sheffield, my monestera has grown in every direction. Please advise how to manage it. Also is banana peel water good for indoor plants?
Thank you o
I’d just leave it in one spot to slowly turn in one direction. Banana peel water is fine
As always, very informative. Thank you for make these vids.
Thanks for watching 😁
Very interesting and informative video. Makes me want to run out and buy one!
You should! 😁
They are a staple for any plant parent imo!
YES YES to the scene from ALMOST FAMOUS hahaha absolutely LOVE how fun AND informational your videos have become! Youre the best!I have a few if those suckers on my adult monsterra and always wonder... "should i cut you off?!" good to know it was indeed a good idea to! Any idea why my new leaves come in SO floppy once they unfurl and stay like that for a WHILE?! i keep wondering "am i not feeding you enough?!" but always SO fearful of root rot 😭
New leaves always come in tender and such a lovely light green-that’s normal. Enjoy their infancy because soon enough they’re teenagers!
Thank you! If they harden off then that’s normal
Great info! I had a mother Monstera that wasn’t doing well, so i split it up and have been propagating groups of stems in water. They are doing well and I’d like to try experimenting with one of the plants by planting it in LECA. have you used LECA? Any success?
I’ve not but I’d like to. Leca Queen has some good stuff on it
One of my fav videos from this channel ❤️
Great stuff 👍 thanks!
I bought my first one for the pandemic. It died after a month. I had it under grow light, and water when dry. Lucky thing it had another one attached and I cut it and gave to my friend she had great window light unlike me. Just yesterday she brought me a cutting with the holes. It’s in water with rocks has lots of roots . How long can I keep it in water?
6:34
It can live in water indefinitely as long as you provide nutrients so no rush to pot up
I find the fenestrations comes on the 5th or 6th leaf, which usually starts with one then the next will have 2. Mine is putting out a new leaf now that i can not wait to see! My albo which ive rooted from 1 leaf is growing at a snails pace and currently has 4 leaves so im hoping next summer I'll get some fenestration.
I can see that 👍👍
I learned a new word "fenestration." 👍
I was given a tiny cutting last autumn from my brothers massive monstera, hes called baby chester. Ive been lucky enough to get fenestrations by the third leaf (number 9 is just coming) ive staked him as hes getting taller but the whole plant isnt 30cm tall yet. Do i trim the younger leaves back now? Or wait until hes bigger.
No harm trimming off the straggly leaves now
If you have a fan or a room with ceiling fan I would think that couldn’t hurt to encourage it to make holes faster considering it is the reason they have holes is to resist wind, and rainfall, so giving it a spray more often than not.
I thought it was more to let sunlight through to the lower leaves
@@SheffieldMadePlants that makes sense too!
🌵My Monstera and I thank you!🌵

Hello Sheffield, love your information: I need some help with my Croton. I had it for over 25 years very big and healthy plant; two years ago my lovely baby started dropping leaves ; I've changed the pot, soil and the location and still not coming back. I bearly have 10 leaves on it😩 what can I do, please. Thank you. I live in Canada
They tend to do that when something in their environment changes. Could be that. Or it could be a watering or light problem
Great video, gonna snip my suckers today.
Couldnt help but notice, do you happen to know what the lil fellas are that you got crawling in the dirt? I have some small bugs that look similar in my alocasia soil, but I dont think they're doing any harm. Just curious what they are.
Thanks for all the tips like always! Couldn't have a thriving indoor garden without your expert tutelage
Have you spotted something I’ve not noticed? 😬
@@SheffieldMadePlants 6:58 to 7:17 where you got the nice close shots of the soil, by the stem & aerial roots you can see the lil gaffers moving and groovin about.
@@AmandaErrrrr oh yes. I think they’re springtails which are fine
@@SheffieldMadePlants🤣
@@SheffieldMadePlantsI can't stand even looking at them. They give me the heeby-jeebys! Too creepy crawly for me. They'd have to go!!
You are so funny 😂 Love your videos. So informative, interesting and entertaining. 🙏🏽
Thank you 😊
Such good tips and funny video too 😅 loved it 👍🏼
Thank you 😊
The monstera is one of my favorite varieties ❤❤ at least top 10
Love your videos! Keep them coming ❤
Thank you! Will do!
You had me laughing pretty good on this video. Plants and laughing. Thanks love your videos
Thanks for watching 😁
I bought a smaller philodendron than you did, to start. Imagine my surprise when two years later it got huge and started making holey leaves! That wasn't what I wanted. So, if I understand your recommendations right, if I cut off the new growth, it will start over with heart-shaped leaves, right? It will stop making split leaves?
It will set it back a bit
@@SheffieldMadePlants I have 3 stems in this pot. Each one has now produced a new split leaf. Is there no turning back to the beautiful heart-shaped plain leaves?
@@bfranklin1052 no they want to split their lives
Petition to bring back the one direction pictures! I don’t even like them but I will die on this hill lol
Hehe I gave it a break in this one
you are a comedian doing plant videos not the other way around lol
😁
I have an issue with my thai con. Its a young plant with 3 leaves with fenestration. I repotted it a few months back. The problem now is that its roots are coming out at the openings at the bottom of the pot. And its not root bound! Everytime i pull out the pot to bottom water, I have these strands of long roots sticking out of the pot. I should I leave them be and dunk the whole thing into the bottom watering bowl? I am afraid to cut the roots incase I kill my first thai con. Appreciate your advice. Always enjoy your vidoes
You can leave them. It's because you are bottom watering so the roots are following the water. Leave or no harm in cutting them back
I love my plants lol. I have a pothos jungle and I have quite a few succulents. I have a lot of other stuff too but my pothos plants are huge.
Thanks for a very informative video. Love all your house plants.
Glad you like them! thanks!
I learn sooooo much from you!!! 😊 Thank you!
My pleasure 😊

I'm in a really hard water area and also I've read about fluoride burn when putting tap water directly onto leaves. Have you ever had any negative effects when giving your plants a spray from the hose?
Not burning but I don’t like to get the leaves wet. It’s stagnant inside so can cause mould issues
I rinse my plants off in the shower. It soaks the soil really well and cleans the leaves off.
Perfect!
Thank you I will work on my plants.
Love and Peace.
Does pruning the suckers also work for other aroids? Asking because I got excited to prune some suckers and my Alocasia Amazonica was the only with suckers available.
Potentially. Depends if they’re small and not adding much value
@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you!
Hi! Your videos are very cool and useful. Thanks! However, I have not found an answer to my question about my monster growing as an epipremnum. It just keeps going up, and I'm not sure what to do about it. Could you please help me?
Can I cut the aerial roots and small leaves hanging out during winter? And what do I do with the cut off small leaves, can I grow another monstera from it?
Yes you can. They won’t grow into a plant. You need a stem piece
Thank you! You have answered all my questions ! ❤
You bet!
Say what you want! You are delightful, insightful, inspiring and informative! You're funny, make me laugh and you give us the point you're trying to make without a bunch of blahblahblah's that others do. Thank you, Richard (I think that's your name?) Well done on the video, as always!! Much appreciated!!
Wow, thank you! Yep Richard 👍
Agree with the comments above from @staceyrose5821. Very much enjoying your videos and learning to be a plant parent. Thank you! 😊
@@claratan863 you’re a ⭐️
I'm so jealous of your monstara! It's beautiful, mine has the yellow leaf like the one shown in the video, I'm also hesitant to trim the baby leaves since it's pretty bare...I saw that you can put monstara in water instead of soil?? Any ideas on this? Ty for the tips as always ❤❤❤
Yes they can live on water. You’d need to change the water often and feed with a hydroponic fert
Thanks for the video. Great info. How do we know if we got a big Monstera or small one? Do they have different names?

Thanks so much! Also your very funny thanks for the laughs! ❤
Hey, it is my first timing checking for watering after the transfer down to a smaller 4inch pot and staking him up. The new leave popped out with but has not opened yet. My question is what number on the moisture meter do I water at? Thanks. Peace.
2 or 3 is perfect for Monstera
