Thank you for this video Lee and Caroline.I'm in the process of repotting this monstera I got from my cousin. It stop growing new leaf too for about 6 months.
You'll likely see thrips damage long before you see any thrips. They're are a ton of different variety of thrips. Search them up to be familiar with what they look like at different life stages.
DIY castile soap, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide concoction sprayed on 1 time a month took care of my thrips. This chick is not an overwaterer for sure, lol.
Without fail, every plant I have that starts growing strangly or stops growing at all eventually shows thrips. But the growing odd or not growing starts long long before any sign of thrips actually appears.

@@KillThisPlant Thanks. And likewise, if "the food source" diminishes, ie the beneficial gremlins eat all the "food source", will they then also explore?

@@safried2002 it is eventually going to rot. Where I am birch is $2 a foot so it is very easy to replace. Having a well draining soil mix can push that back to around 2 years without rotting.
how did you know EXACTLY what I was struggling with with my monstera??? so glad you made this video, tysm! do you think after the repot if you don’t want to use bugs you can treat for thrips normally with a bio insecticide?
so a birch bark pole or a plant work just fine? We don't NEED a moss pole? I haven't committed to buying a moss pole for my monstera yet because it seems daunting to me LOL
Where do you buy these beneficial insects? I am currently struggling with a thrip infestation and I am afraid neem oil is not going to cut it. I have a collection of close to 100 plants and I am very worried.
@@Jessica-mc7po if you're in the USA the best answer for thrips is a systemic pesticides like Bonide. If you can use that you have to search locally within your province/state. There are generally strict rules about these insects.
Lee, I need advice! I accidentally sprayed my Monstera plant with Raid bug spray! I was spraying around a window and it came back and hit most of the leaves. It left yellowish spots. Since then my plant has very droopy leaves. It’s been 2 months, and It even grew two new leaves since then. I have a soil meter so I don’t overwater but it’s in regular plant soil. It was given to me. And it doesn’t have bugs, I checked. It looks so sad with the leaves curling and droopy! Please help me! God bless✝️
That kind of thrips damage makes me wonder if my monstera met them a while ago. The last leaf unfurled with a similar pattern shown in the video, close to the bottom of it, but I assumed it was some sort of mechanical damage to blame on me. Since, when the leaf was in the making, I found thrips on a plant that was close to it, I gave it a few drops of systemic insecticide anyway (we do not have bonide in Italy but we have flupyradifurone, and my plant stays inside so I'm not killing the bees). Great video as always.
Do I need to use all 3 types of bugs? You mention the orius insidiosus kills thrips at all life cycle stages - could I get away with this this? I’m unsure how bad my infestation is. I just know there is definitely sign of damage and hasn’t been growth for a year.

Same .. any advise on all the sudden the whole plant is slowly turning yellow leaves but it is still giving off new leaves ?? I have repotted it recently because I thought it would help and new soil.. Thank you 😊
How often do you add nutrients? The whole plant going yellow sounds like Nitrogen deficiency, especially if the yellowing started at the bottom. Nitrogen is a mobile nutrient so the plant will take it from older leaves and use it to create newer leaves. Something to look into if you haven't added any nutrition in a while.
