- In 2018, Yo Yo Ma started a musical tour around the world. He planned to tour in 36 cities in six continents around the world to play Bach's Six Cello Suites. The ancient Greek Theater, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, was his first stop. Unfortunately, the Pandemic stopped Yo Yo Ma's world music tour. The performance in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus Greek was one of the most beautiful versions of Yo Yo Ma's performance of Bach's Six Suites.

@@trinidad2450 So, someone sends you an open-hearted note of universal love, and you reply with your religious bullshit. It must suck to be you.
Same to you.
Thank you ♥️
I hope everyone of us gets your wonderful wishes and a best peaceful future ❤
Sublime! Felicitaciones!!
"Noise is from cicada on microphone" is the single best subtitle I've ever seen in my life.
The cello is the most human of instruments, and represents the closest to replicating humanity's vocal range. Bach's genius, was to lift humanity's voice, YoYo is his finest instrument. He seems inspired from a spirit we cannot see, but he does.
Obra cumbre de la música universal
cello is beautiful but it is the viola the one that matches the most the human frequencies (from a violist). That being said, Yo Yo Ma is an absolute master of his instrument and few if any can play like him at his best. Though in my humble opinion, his techniques shines much more in more virtuosistic romantic works (Listen to him playing Vocalise)
Sitting out in the warm late winter Northern Nevada sun, some beer and cigarettes close at hand, I listened to all. Best day I've had in a while. Thanks Yo Yo Ma, Thanks Bach.
Absolutely astonishing musicianship and Yo Yo Ma captures the spirit of Bach. He plays it exactly the way Bach intended it to be played. It's a spiritual experience to listen to this incredible composition by Bach. These six cello suites capture every aspect of life itself. The happy, the sad, the determination, and love. This is a masterpiece performance. May Mother Goddess continue to bless Yo Yo Ma.
He is an extension of the cello spirit, bringing the life and sharing the spirit.
So proud that YoYo Ma is an American. The best musician we've every produced.
Weirdest comment ever. You know he plays music, right? His place of domicile is American. He is not an automobile. ‘We’ have no more ‘produced’ his genius than have the nations of composers whose music he performs. Maybe sports would be easier for you?
@@artysanmobile He's an American that plays music from all over, but his genius makes the music beautiful. I prefer to think he's an incredible example for young American artists. He's not domiciled in America, he was born and raised here.

As a pupil of the great violist and Bach interpreter, Lillian Fuchs, who devoted many years of her life to understanding, interpreting, performing, recording and teaching these masterful suites on the viola. I learned to play and love this music as a young man. Now at the age of 73, this music moves me as much or more than ever, and I can only take my hat off to Xo Yo Ma for sharing the fruits of his amazing talent and performing experience through this great music and performance. Tis is , IMHO absolutely MONUMENTAL!Thank you YO YO MA, and THANK YOU J.S. Bach!
Yo Yo is a treasure to human kind.

Yo-Yo Ma loves his life. He’s such an inspiration to me.
Mr. Yo-Yo Ma really know to play cello.
🌹🌹🌹❤
I'm speechless, and that's a rare event indeed. Thank you, all concerned with producing this masterpiece.
Even the cicada loves YoYo Ma! It flew in to join in. :D
YoYo and Bach remind us of the good and true in our universe at a time when thoughtlessness ( and brainlessness) seems to garner too much support and attention.
Well said!
Fully agree with you
amen
The GOAT of the cello!🙏🙏🙏

There will never be another
Love love love
Tiene algo especial Yo Yo Ma.
Leonard Rose would be very proud.
❤
The strangest thing: Once you really hear, this the easiest thing, and -- most to enjoy.
03:42 My face, if I could play Cello. I understand what he feels.
영혼의 평화❤
There was a cicada singing on the microphone from 00: 34:53, and it is fun to see such a musical incident.
Siempre los chelistas comienzan con esta. Suit.
💜☄️🌌
Asuma how passionate are you about your instrument? Then what do you think about your playing? I tak kajdiy muzikant dumayet... na instrumente. Asuma a kogda perestante dumar i nachnyete igrat?
What other cellist comes close? The instrument required and deserving of such talent… I can’t imagine the source. I’m speaking of Mr Ma not the cello.
how do you not have a fail safe? did they only have one mic? sound guy committed crimes against humanity.
A cicada on the microphone (last movement of 2nd suite)!! That must have annoyed him.
21:48 a dog?
He still doesn't trust Bach; too much weird hurriedness! There's too much YYM and not enough Bach in there. I'm not saying it should be as workman-like as Rostropovich's, and I realize there's lots of superb competition with things like Coppey's excellent work and Wen Sinn Yang's beautiful recordings. Not to mention Netherlands Bach Society, Casals older recordings, or even Edgar Meyer. If you listen to Andras Schiff talk about Bach, then listen to him play the French Suites (Leipzig recordings), that's Bach! Or Helmut Walcha ... These performers understand that Bach requires raw intimacy, not virtuosic flare. Introspection, not demonstrativeness. These are best appreciated, and performed, not as show pieces, but as meditations. Like you're watching the musician thinking and revealing the self. "Bach is Life" you might say.
Is it possible that it's more difficult to interpret in a unique and personal style than following a fixed manner?
@@ruohaochen Inevitability, the performer's personality will be revealed, in any performance. Don't get me wrong, he is a wonderful cellist! But I don't like his Bach. His Dvorak, his collaborations with Bella Fleck and Edgar Meyer, etc., those are where he shines. But strangely, he learned to play cello largely thru the Cello Suites. Edgar Meyer said he built his technique playing them on double bass - why are his recordings of the Suites so different, then? To my view, quite superior. The performer must trust Bach. And then think their way thru the piece. Perhaps I am too devoted to this idea for Bach? "Bach as Life" perhaps I should've said. Maybe it's too idealized.
Get over yourself!@@festivetosho7376
Even if every musician have their own interpretation of Bach's music (or any other music), i also think that he play too fast, like at 38:13. For me Bach music express his best potential when played slowly, because it's a profound music, and the notes have to be played with more dephts. When played too fast, you don't feel this depht. I myself prefer enrico dindo interpretation, because he play Bach in the way that touch me better.
@@starlucanyaart I listen to Enrico Dindo's Bach Cello Suite n'6 in D major BWV 1012 a lot. His interpretation is charming.
😂😊
So spped ☹️
