Please make a video highlighting the difference between the real Rhode Island Red and the Rhode Island production type(sometimes called production red). Thank you.
Rhode island reds used to be a better breed but hatcheries have changed that. It's hard to find anyone breeding APA standard birds. I live right near where they were first created in little Compton ri and westport ma. They even have a monument and I also believe the original was rose combed. Great job!
We used to have Rhode Island Red chickens but found the roosters (and hens towards other breeds) to be too aggressive (we have children). We had the same issue even with the Barred Rock (mean roosters attacking the kids). We are about to get Black Austrolop and hope that will can stick with them.
Yeah, my R.I.R. roosters were mean as could be as well. The hens were quite friendly and overall nice, but not the roosters. Only one of the 6 was nice to me and that's cause he was the runt lol
Dear Sustainable poultry, encourage you to write to ask two questions about this breed. One is about the spurs of the males, are they cut or are they genetically small? The other is if an adult male raised in captivity who has not known chickens can act as a breeder or if he loses that instinct, thank you for the answer
Great chickens, I had several as a child. Plan on re opening my coop and want to go with them again. I have just learned that the common RIR's on the market are considered 'Industrial Type' and that the actual breed is endangered. Trying to figure out what is the difference between the two? Thanks in advance.
Best rooster IYO from the high egg layer breeds??? I have 4 black autrolorps, 2 austrolorp mutts, 2 236s and 1 RIR. I'm thinking I want A rooster but NOT FROM A BREED that may undermine egg production if I decide to start hatching? I'm thinking I may order some Black Bresses and make 1 of them A rooster?
Very interesting. Every spring I "try"/ test another breed. My favorite up to now are Welsumer. For now I have 12 Rhode Island chicks, three weeks old, under the heating lamp. I'm excited what will be... - Greetings from germany.
What is your opinion of the Rhode island Red for a family flock with children? Have heard this breed both males and females can be extremely mean and aggressive to other members of the flock as well as to humans.
Can you help me out i have 3 chikens 1 is a 4 month hen and the other is a idk like 7 8 month 9 month idk but the other one is a rooster and just Turned 4 months on may 4 and its already the may 15 and i hadent heard Him try to crow and im wondering if he still isent at the age yet
I see six points. Here is the standard for Single Comb RIR. " If single combed=medium to moderately large single comb, with five evenly serrated points that are longer in the middle than the ends."
Road Island Roosters that I have had... were the most aggressive, mean, and self-centered Roosters I have ever had. They are the only Roosters that I know of that are aggressive towards people.

Thank you Sir Jim adkins. God bless you

Thank you Jim for your ongoing commitment to educate the public and promote standard bred poultry!
Jjql😅 q
The bird's ego is going through the roof. He's going to be insufferable back in the coop.
\
LOL yes! The hens better stay away from him for a while.
I’m new to selecting and breeding chickens. Could you go into further detail about n what “brick type” is? Thanks.
Why does his tail feathers not have that deep jewel toned teal in them?
RHODE ISLAND RED!!! OH, I LIKE THEM! I'd like a Rhode Island red for me, alright? Two of them!
I like RIR. In our country there are so many Rir's cross generations. I also have some of them. I love Chickens ❤️❤️
Thanks for these important informations love u from Pakistan
A question, if your focus is on sustainability, shouldn't feed coversion ratio be the very first thing you select for?

@@edmen005 We ended up getting Lavender Orpington and the are super friendly!

Aggressive males should never be put in a breeding pen. Remember, aggressive fathers, produce, aggressive, sons.
