Well I'm About 6 years late but I'm here !
But NOW. I am thinking about another chicken house far from my original one. Had a couple of neighbors that got hit with something and wiped them out. That seems to be the way life is sometimes. Short and full of trouble. When you start putting a little of your heart and soul into it.they become more than just chickens.Know what I mean?
Amen Amen!!!! People just do not understand about strains. I tis more important than breed. A whole new world opened up for me when I ended up with a flock that just out shined my previous birds . Same breed???? When the understanding of strains hit me . I have enjoyed my chickens a lot more. And now I actually have a goal in preserving them.
All good info Jim, but I really like to add some info and that would be how much it will cost to raise out that many chicks. I do a simpler thing with 25 or 30 chickens. by just culling some that do not meet my liking. I know it isnt science but my billfold understands the cost .I use a premium feed up untill they start to lay and that produces a lot of very nice chickens . For me trick is to purchase your birds from a good breeder in the first place and that puts you half way there. STILL NEED TO CULL A FEW AND THAT ALLWAYS made me kind of sad. You are so right about finding a good mentor to help you learn what you are looking for in a fine chicken. My Dad was my teacher. I will never be as good as he was, wish I had of listened more. But I do know some traits that I do not like. I work with what I know and try to all ways be learning more. I repeat!! My first lesson was my billfold so folks need to under stand that before they get in over there head .
Great video
Haloo
Do I have a chicken? No Did I suddenly got curious and wanted to know how to hold a chicken in case I encounter a chicken that needs to be held? Yes
Beautiful birds! Thanks!
Dwelt among men, my example is He.
🙏
Thank you Brant, you are a visible sign of Gods generosity, which is so needed in the world today. Thank you Jim, over the last number of years, I have learned so much about raising good heritage poultry the right way. Bless you both from Canada!
I bread chicken every time before I deep fry it
Lol
Thanks
I have eight gold laced Wyandottes that are 6-1/2 months old. Only one is laying. Is that normal for them? I got them because they are supposed to be quiet. One squawks like she's being murdered when she lays an egg and keeps it up until I come out and get the egg. My past experience has been with RIR which were a little noisy but were laying more eggs than we could eat by 20 weeks. I'm about ready to put them all in the freezer!
Wonderful show. I'm learning so much.
drop dead gorgeous! But doesnt he have 6 comb points?
THANK U SO MUCH!!!!!
I have Rhode Island Reds and buff orpingtons strictly for Eggs 🥚🥚

Loved these programs. Hope y’all do more. Hope everyone is doing well.
What is your opinion of the Rhode island Red for a family flock with children? Have heard this breed both males and females can be extremely mean and aggressive to other members of the flock as well as to humans.
I'm thinking about crossing bielefelders with American bresse. I think that just may be the perfect dual purpose chicken?🤔
Wow really helpful saspo should make a TH-cam channel
Sounds like heaven! Yes there are chickens in heaven!
So good to see this interview. God bless Abraham and his ministry. I have never visited Cameroon, but my mother was born there, away down south near Ebolowa. - Jim Munn
I always love how they run, we had two and they were best friend and didn't bully any pekins
Ive seen one of your breeding videos and need some advice. Im interested in breeding RIR roos to wheaten maran hens then breeding their offspring back to them and breeding their offspring to white leghorns to in the end make a few clans of white pattern red wheatens. After that could i use clan breeding to make them eventually breed true? I would love if you could do another video explaining what to do after you get established clans.
Would you have a timeline for slower maturing chickens like Jersey Giants?
They need more time. Select males at 20 to 24 weeks…
@@sustainablepoultrynetwork-1868 Thank you for such a quick response.
Me literally had a chicken beside me
Other videos talk about restraining the wings. This looks so much better. No wing flapping at all.
Exactly!
It is true, I had a 3 time champion (best of variety/breed), but my winning Best American with that bird was my highest achievement, because of the number of birds I beat. I like competition! I wish everyone well, may the best bird win!
Thank you for your help dedication and compassion on nutrition
Shame the Bantam and standard look so different but the standard is written the same
Serious breeder, good job
My Plymouth Rock is so jumpy but I managed to finally pick her up and have her chill. Slightly vocal but calm. Thank you for this video.
Stop holding like that wtf…byeeee
Lazy ass bird
Road Island Roosters that I have had... were the most aggressive, mean, and self-centered Roosters I have ever had. They are the only Roosters that I know of that are aggressive towards people.
Aggressive males should never be put in a breeding pen. Remember, aggressive fathers, produce, aggressive, sons.
You should perhaps rename your video please; because i couldnt find any good videos on New Hampshire chickens until I found yours, only on accident by recognising the chicken youre holding.
Thank you I love your story, thank you for sharing the knowledge you have acquired
Thank you for this video.

Is there a layer feed that is low calcium meant to go with a separate calcium supplement? That would make more sense if you keep the boys and girls together like most people do.
