I love chickens! :) I have Rhode Island Reds too that includes roosters. It totally depends on the rooster. Some are mean, some are not. The mean ones end up in the crockpot as soup. lol I think mine starting laying about the same time as yours. The longest ones to start laying is the Buff Orpingtons now that is 11 months old. My first time having chickens (wow like 17 years ago now) I tried several of the old fashions breeds to see who/what I liked best. Mine don't like the snow much either. I can't imagine why?? haha
I had one batch of brothers that were so mean. They fought to the death at around 7 months old until the strongest one was left. He took out two of his brothers. When he got bigger he challenged the older roosters, but those other roosters didn't fight to the death. They eventually gave up and accepted that new guy is stronger. He became the main rooster after beating all other roosters in the farm. I let chickens be chickens. They never attacked humans. They ate from my hands and the young ones would climb on my shoulder. It takes two roosters to fight to the death. If one gives up the other chases him for maybe 10 feet, ends the dispute and goes up a rank. Nothing more. Come feeding time they know the pecking order. None of my other roosters fought till one died. I still remember how extra shiny and smooth that rooster's feathers were. Extra red face and eyes to show good blood flow. Very healthy. If these chickens were wild and humans never had anything to do with them, they'd still be doing the same thing just like any other animal. It's like national geographics on your farm.
They don’t seem too sure about walking in that snow. Lol! Some Rhode Island roosters are aggressive and some are not. We’ve had both kind. Aggressive ones do have to go! Good video!
I've got two Rhode island reds that were hatched July 1. Got my first egg out of one of them today jan 24. They're in a cold environment (Montana) but well and property fed and housed. My first egg 6.5 months. Not all start at 20 weeks
If it ain't red, it stays in the shed!! That goes for Tractors AND chickens! Farmalls and Rhode Island Reds are no.1! See ya on the chat with James & Don!
they all look happy enough maybe if they feel threatened might chase you lots of snow there *gave our like👍Au👍🤗full viewed🎅happy christmas🎄supporting🎅*
I have a RIR rooster and he is aggressive to people, cat & dogs. But after a few taps of a big switch he doesn’t mess with my husband nor myself. The Chicken Masters tamed the beast!! Lol
I used to have Rhode Island Reds. Some of the best chickens in my opinion. Had a rooster once his name was Elvis. Beautiful rooster but MEAN! One day he came running up to me getting ready to attack and I threw the feed can at him and hit him right in the head and knocked him out cold!! LOL I thought I killed him but about 20 seconds he came to and just ran away like a mad man. After that day if he saw me with a can he would leave me alone. If I didn't have the can look out he was after me!
I have raised Rhode Island Reds since 1980. They should start laying around 6 months. My Dad is from Corry, PA and I have a cousin there that is a Dairy farmer.
This video has me excited. My girls are just at 4.5 months. Can't wait for that first egg. Do you use a layer feed? I've heard some people like to stick with higher protein while they're laying Great video. Thank you 😊
@@FarmallFanatic thank you. I'm gonna go out and find a good mash. These girls are close to laying and need something better than that store feed. Thanks!❤
The roosters will start getting aggressive when the hens start laying as that is breeding season. The hens will lay when they get enough sunlight or forced light (bulbs). They need 8-10 hours of light per day to lay eggs. That's why chickens stop laying in the late fall and through the winter. Give them enough light and they will start laying eggs.
@@FarmallFanatic Ok thanks. They sure are beautiful birds. Stay healthy and well. Like your farmalls. When I was growing up on our small farm in illinois, we had a farmall M, H, and MTA. Very reliable and easy to work on. Almost like big toys. And even though the equipment was smaller than today. Dad and I still got the work done. Of course we did not work the whole county or half the state.
Not till spring they are motting and growing specially young ones 6 or 7 months spring she will lay! None of mine are laying one will drop one every so often! Snow will freeze their feet and they can turn black frost bit I don't let them in the snow but around their coop! Only saying! Pretty girls roosters are pretty!
@@FarmallFanatic ahhh hahaha! I am seeing my RIR rooster start to do his little shuffle dance at me at almost two years old. And hearing ladies in the coop above his 'apartment' below is making him more dancy. He better not come at me once I put him with the girls. He will learn what it means to be punted like a football. Lololol!
Yep...you need one less rooster...and one more rooster noodle soup!
I love you TH-cam videos
Cool update on the chickens. We have one Rhode Island Red hen and that girls is steady with the egg laying.

Very nice video friends so cool I like video 🎄🎄🎁 thank you 🙏
We had a Rhode Island red rooster (even though we didn't order any lol), and he was very friendly to us. You sound as happy as I do about the snow!
Miserable lol
TYSM for the support. I look forward to watching your videos.
Do the eggs freeze and break if left in the coop for more than a day in temperatures around 10 degrees?
Yes

Rhode Island Reds are what I want to get in a few years 😊 She is definitely resilient. That's hilarious about them refusing to go in the snow 😂⛄
I have always wanted chickens, But there is no way now. But I will live through your videos. Nice meeting you from Bluwaves live

At 20 weeks, they were in a low light winter month...that alone would delay them...had they hatched in March...20 weeks would have happened
Great video friend sledgehammered that like button and a enjoyed watch
Chickens!! Yay the chickies! I love the chicken videos! ❤️ I feel their pain l don’t like coming out in the snow either.

Some good looking chickens there
The reds are not big fans of snow shoeing. They are very sceptical of that white stuff. Nice to see the chickens doing well. 👍
Chickens are looking great. Keep warm 🤗

I have yet to see a nice rooster.. Buff, Barred Rock and a Rhode Red all have been a pain in he rear.
Not aggressive? Both roosters were trying to get your Leg horns... Either way BEAUTIFUL roosters they are!!

That's a lot of snow, oh my god... Chickens are afraid of coming out , hehehehe...

Are Rhode Island Red chickens kid friendly? I have heard they are very aggressive. Just curious. Thanks.
Yes...i haven't had a problem with them in that way. Hens can be bossy to other hens, but not kids
