If you don't let your birds share nesting boxes, is a recipe for sitting wasting time in the coop everyday to make sure they are all in their own box. I have 18 Rhode Island Reds and 2 nesting boxes, they mostly prefer one.
My Rhode Island rooster is a terd! I need him to fertilize my eggs as I raise my meat but I hate having to watch him as he attacks ! His days might be numbered once his spurs start to grow. So looking into the black ostorlorp as they are a dual purpose also.
I do NOT recommend RIR chickens unless you want only laying hens and not roosters, and you are not looking for friendly, pet-like chickens. They are not a laid-back breed. The hens are flighty and elusive toward humans and the roosters are aggressive. They will attack your children. We have 6 children, who are outside with the chickens quite a bit. Our black Australorp never attacks our little ones; neither did our Buff Orpington roo (who sadly was recently taken by a pack of dogs along with 6 of his hens during the night).
Love this! Thank you for mentioning my ancestor, William Tripp.

😂😂
Good luck trying to keep them using the same nest. Sometimes they will use the same box at the same time. Sharing is caring. Half the nests go unused.

Are the hens on it own really loud? I want one for the garden for egg laying
@@Tantrix1 get to hens so they wont be lonely
@@Tantrix1 Having hens alone could make them more vulnerable to hawks and other birds of prey.
