  • In this video I will show you how to replace a defective drum brake wheel cylinder to stop your brakes from locking up.
    I neglected to show how to get your brakes adjusted correctly at the end. D'oh! Basically move your adjuster and keep testing with the wheel drum until it spin freely.

    Awesome, done a couple of disk brakes but never worked on this type. Can see from this how it should all work though, you covered it off nicely. Think I'd be happy opening up my mums brakes if needed now. Cheers.

    Awesome!! Only other thing I do is lightly grease the threads of the star wheel & wear nubs of the backer plate for the shoes. Thanks for sharing! 👍

    Quick question, I put new brakes on but didn't change the old brake wheel cylinder..I put the the drums on and the drum can turn and the brakes seems to be in perfect place but the moment I put the wheel on and torque the wheel the whole wheel locks up and stops moving. It's like torquing the wheels locked it up....do you have any suggestions on why that might be?

      Apparently cold weather can exasperate issues with locking drum brakes. It's certainly been my experience.

    I have a 2002 shuttle ezgo and rr is locking up. Cylinder not leaking but it not releasing pressure. Then when cooled it unsticks on its own.

  • @ewanbaxter9199
    @ewanbaxter9199 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would it be better to refit the drum then there would be no chance of an air pocket in the new cylinder. Pressing the pedal would force any trapped air in the cylinder out.

    I know this is an old video, but I wanted to point out that the bleeder goes on top in every situation, due to physics. Air is less dense than any fluid, so the bleeder always goes on the highest point of a hydraulic system.

    Is it possible to install calipers backwards? Like install the left on the right?

    • @jordandunk3701
      @jordandunk3701 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You will know if you did it backwards if the bleeder screw ends up on the bottom of the caliper. They need to be at the top for air to come out of

      The wheel in question would lock up when I braked which was a bit scary. After it happening a few times I could feel which wheel it was and upon looking at the wheel cylinder, saw that it was leaking fluid which it shouldn't do.
