It isn't always easy to tell when something is in your control and when something is. If you are afraid of something, must you be strict with yourself? Is overcoming fear attained by doubling down? The subconscious will try to protect itself and sometimes make you act even more out of control. So is that aspect of yourself really under your control. It seems that it isn't. And while some may take solace in the fact that if something is out of their control, that they should not worry about it -- others remain disturbed even by things that are out of their control. It seems that if we apply stoic advice to this as well, one should not worry about not being able to be calm -- or, one should not worry about worrying -- since if you cannot stop worrying, then it is not in your control.
One thought to add to "Find the Golden Mean". Finding balance in things is one task. How about also finding balance between balance and imbalance - something I've been contemplating about recently..

I’m in my 50s but back in college I felt that stoicism was a natural philosophy for me. That whole, “be strict with yourself and tolerant of others” has been my life motto - but… I feel that somewhere along the way of embracing my child knowing they could die at any moment and acknowledging that life is brief - I found myself fixated on all the negatives and lost the focus of joy. Now, stoicism feels dangerous to me. The constant observance of the negative causes me to lose sight of the whole point which is appreciating everything. Do you have a video that addresses that?
@@itsmichaelmai Well, college was 30 years ago for me and my concentrations were in Cultural Anthropology and Fine Arts… but philosophy is a vital component of understanding culture, belief systems and ultimately, what motivates people to be and do what they choose in life.
Today is my eldest daughter's birthday. She lost the key fob to the car rental. When she found it it had been run over by a bus/buses, bending the battery in the key fob so it didn't function. Had to call rental office. The battery was replaced but she missed the parade for the Kansas City Chiefs for winning the Superbowl against The 49ers Boy, was she p@&!Ed No Amor Fati in this case. 😮😮😮
Most of the Stoics were religious. cant tell you for sure which religion but it was probably believing in Roman/Greek gods as they lived 2000 years ago
