Listen to the calls of the Bearded, Cardinal, Ground, Knysna and Olive Woodpeckers. #birdsofyoutube #birds #birdsofsouthafrica #birdsong #birdsounds #woodpecker
I love the grounded woodpecker call. Does the sound of the pecking differ from species to species as well? Or is it more based on the type of tree. If it does differ though, could you make a similar video demonstrating those differences? I would be incredibly curious.
Good question! I know that some very experienced birders can tell them apart from their drumming but I'm not sure that I can. I'll try and put together a video of their pecking and drumming. When they drum, they are calling a mate. They choose interesting things to drum on like hollow metal poles or hollow poles or tree trunks that resonate the sound. It is amazing how far their drumming carries. It can be heard from far.
Thanks, Lynette. 🌻🌾
