We had inherited a dining room set about 30 years ago that was not my style, but we used it because it was a family heirloom. However our youngest daughter always liked it. So this year, she finally had moved into a large enough home to have the set (which we saved for her) and I was finally able to purchase a set that I liked. After looking around at new sets (and not willing to pay what they wanted for the style we were looking for), our older daughter called us from a consignment furniture store near her. She had found the perfect set for us. We drove over and loved it. It cost us less than one-half of what I was willing to pay! The following day our younger daughter called and during our conversation, she mentioned that her soon-to-be mother-in-law was selling her truck. We thought about purchasing a truck in the next couple years - but jumped at the chance to buy this one from a trusted friend at a good deal. Some weeks are just better than others :)

Oh yes. I thought I’d like ours but it’s mediocre. It was fairly cheap though on marketplace. I think it was $125 but my sons dad was just telling someone the other day that it was $75,either way not bad,we’ve had it 2 1/2 years so far.

I bought my granddaughter a birthday cake last year when we met up with them for a couple of days. My friends told me to go to this bakery in Denver. Most gorgeous cakes. I didn’t even look at the price when I bought it but it was a little bit of change from $80.00. It was worth it to see her face. I didn’t spend that amount on her mother’s wedding cake 3 months earlier. Thanks to winning the gift card from WalMart from you. Love your channel.

Not too exciting or brilliant, but I just finished a little frugal task. My husband likes sausage Patties. They are more expensive than a tube of sausage. Safeway had jimmy Dean sausage on sale for $2.99 so I bought 3 of them. This morning I stuck them in the freezer just to firm them up a bit. I sliced the sausage into patties, stuck them back into the freezer to partially freeze, and then when they were firm I vacuum sealed them into meal sized packages. They are now ready to grab when I need them, and Dh will be happy to have his patties lol. Doing this let me be able to stock up on sausage when it was on sale.

I did the same frugal food saver last week. Sausage was on sale at our Giant .I purchased 14 ,1 pound ,rolls. I slice them & brown in a frying pan. Then I place 5 patties in a pint size mason jar & pressure cook them . The results are yummy & ready on my pantry shelf . I did 14 pints. I also have ground sausage canned also. Canning is my hobby . I love putting all sorts of vegetables & meats on my shelves.

    • @dianeloe5684

@@FrugalMoneySaver not that brilliant lol. I looked up the price of store brand patties at Walmart and I saved 69 cents per tubeis all, but jimmy Dean is a lot more expensive. The JD. tubes are over $4 at wm now. It’s just kinda hard to to make the patties more than once from the bulk tubes because we don’t eat it very often, and I don’t always think ahead far enough to thaw it out lol. I tried vacuum sealing them without freezing them but they got pretty smashed together, so that’s why I partially froze them first.

Oh, the cake looks wonderful. Your brother is a hoot. You are blessed to have a loving family.
My project saved us several hundred dollars. When we built our house one of our bathroom floors had a light beige grout. Over the years it just got darker and darker and dirty looking. No matter what I used to clean it, the result was the same. My husband wanted to relace the tile but I was not on board. Instead we found some white grout stain and I restained everything. It took two coats but it looks pristine. I also pulled the old caulk up and replaced that as well. Total cost was twelve dollars. I felt really good about that project.

This week, I got a huge sweet potato worth $2.50 for free because they had forgot to change the price on the shelf (In Canada, most places participate in the scanning code of practice policy, so that if an item scans wrong then up to the first $10 it is free, I am not sure if you have the same in the U.S). With that sweet potato it was our carb for 2 people at dinner. with the leftover, I made 14 spice cookies and froze them. I also got 4 novels in excellent condition worth USD $66.97- CAD $82.97 for free. They will be gifted/donated when I am done reading them. I also fixed my medical shoes worth over $350. We ordered in oil to do our own oil change on the car this weekend (that should save us around $100). We frugal rock!

Happy frugal people are usually creative. That's part of what makes frugal living fun! Also, being able to maintain what we have is critical to this lifestyle. Recently, my husband and I restrung two wind chimes he had given me years ago. Do they show wear? Yes, they do, kind of like us! I did price new chimes, and just like every thing else, they cost much more than the ones he gave me. But buying new chimes would not carry the sweet memories of who gave them to me and why. You can't buy that. I loved this video.

We have some rows planted in our garden. Instead of buying tons of potting mix(due to not great soil), we went to our woods we have and got loads of dirt for our garden. In those beds, we have paste style tomatoes, onions, pickling cucumbers, potatoes, zucchini, various bell peppers and black eyed peas. In our pots, we have herbs, slicing tomatoes, more peppers, and blackberries. In our front garden rows, we will have watermelon, cantaloupe and more peppers, zucchini and some eggplant. I think for small scale gardening, bucket/container gardening is very doable and relatively simple. In fact, our best bell pepper plants last year were potted ones. Got 2 gallons worth of chopped peppers out of 3 pots. Gardening can save money. Especially when you garden in any and everything you can and don't buy expensive fertilizers/soils. I started some of my seeds this year in empty cracker boxes. And guess what? Works just as well as expensive starter pots.. Love your frugal tips.

For frugality this week, I thought of somebody's suggestion (could have been yours...I don't remember where I heard it) to try to cut 10% out of costs, across all categories of expenses. I grocery shop online now. When I saw the total, I went back over the order and removed 10% worth of items. I saved a lot of money, as it was a stock-up shopping. 😀

Wow! The cake looks amazing! Great job by Paul on the DIY tire patch. What an awesome gift idea for your niece w/ the pumpkin seeds and book. So cool! This week there was one night I was so tempted just to get take out because I was tired and it was getting late, but nope, I went down to my kitchen and I grabbed a convenience item I had bought (boxed Annie’s Mac and cheese), paired it w/ some veggies and had that. Saved $ by not going to grab restaurant food and it was super fast to make. I think having a few convenience items or “take out-style” pre-made meals on hand in your kitchen is smart so if you have a night you are tempted to get take out, you can just grab from your kitchen and heat up in no time.

Your cake looked out of this world! You and Paul are always such an inspiration. I was having my family over for Easter dinner this year and I love seasonal decor, but rather than purchasing anything new - I just decided to move it around to new places in our main living area and with a little creativity, it was the "new" that I wanted without buying a single thing. We also combined taking a short drive on a sunny day with filling up the gas cans for our lawn mower and weed eater, and our vehicle. There is a gas station about 15 miles from our home that is actually in a bordering state. We saved over $10 after taking the drive into account and just enjoyed being out together.

Thought of another thing. Dh just finished helping our son and daughter-in-law completely remodel their basement. It turned out beautiful. Since my Dh works in upper management for a flooring company he was able to find them some great deals for their flooring, and the tile work on the wall and bar. They still spent about $10,000 ( cash) counting the furniture, but if they had hired it done, and paid retail for the flooring materials, it probably would have cost over $20,000. DIY’s get a bad rap sometimes. My Dh is not a contractor, but he’s taught himself how to do this stuff over the years. Next weekend he starts working on our other son’s kitchen. Complete gut job. This will be his 4th kitchen lol. He’s done 2 for our younger dd, and he did ours. He’s getting really good at home remodeling projects, and that saves so much money.

That cake looked delicious! So pretty too. 🎂 This week I got a large amount (70lbs) of veggies that were going to be thrown out through a local organization for $15! There were tons of tomatoes and bell peppers in red, yellow and green. I canned diced tomatoes, canned stewed tomatoes and also dehydrated sliced tomatoes and peppers for snacks. They taste sweet like candy and as crunchy as chips. This weekend there is another opportunity to get 70lbs more! I love having home canned foods in my pantry in these interesting times, as well as to bless others if times get tough. I also started my first garden! Zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, peppers and carrots all from seeds from the dollar tree, and potatoes from some in the pantry that had sprouted. I just love being frugal! DIY projects for repair or upgrades really save money! Yes, it's good that Paul's handy. Be thankful since we know many people who are not and have to hire for everything! $$$$ My husband had estimates for solar screens but then researched on the internet companies that custom make the frames and send you the frames, hardware and screens. Had our engineer son help him measure windows to get perfect measurements. He assembled them perfectly and we hung them on our windows. Cost was less than half of the cheapest quote to have someone else install plus he did a probably more meticulous job.
My frugal gift making was I went to our local honey bee store. I saw beautiful rolled beeswax candles selling for $8.99 for two candles pkged with ribbon.. They told me I could buy the sheets and wick and roll my own. I did just that..for less than $3 I made a set of candles and decorated with ribbon, flowers that I had in my craft cabinet. Perfect Baby Shower prizes for my DIL party.....Easter gifts......Birthday gifts...and will be making more for my nieces bridal shower (prizes)...
    Love the local natural beeswax.

To your question: this week I planted lots of salades and other plants outside in our garden. And this year I did'nt bought little plants to do this. This year I only bought seeds and grow them on our window shelfs. After planting the little plants outside in our garden I put a little old jar over every salade plant to protect them from snails and birds. This was our special frugal thing this week.❤

I agree about frugality being a great lifestyle choice. We found a water leak in our foundation and called a couple of plumbers. One big company gave a tiered pricing chart with $1580 being the cheapest fix and top tier was about $4300. 😂😡 I called a friend's plumber who isn't part of a big company and he only charged $485!! It pays to shop around and look at smaller companies who can give better deals. Your cake was beautiful and looked yummy too!

I fixed a ham boil for Easter dinner. Ham, onions, carrots, potatoes and cabbage. There was about 24 oz of yummy broth left so I put it in a jar and into the freezer. The next time I fix a pot of beans or lentIls, I’ll use the broth as part of my liquids. You are such a fun couple. Keep these videos coming. I love seeing you two getting everything done together in fun, helpful, frugal ways. Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰

Our friend gifted us an Easter cookie decorating kit, my son & I decorated them, i kept the left over variety of sprinkles & have been sprinkling them over his ice cream, i also made a lasagna for Easter dinner, I then used the leftover lasagna noodles & ricotta mixture that i added pesto to (use up the end of the jar) then topped off with an open jar of alfredo.. It made 4 meals for myself that i froze! Actively been trying to keep food waste to a minimum!

The vinyl flooring in my bathroom is in good shape, but I have never liked the color. Now that I've retired, I can't afford to replace it. So, I purchased a paint kit (Menard's) specially made for floors, and I will be painting the floor sometime this winter - an aged gray color with a white stenciled pattern overlay (Hobby Lobby). Earlier this year, I sponged the outdated brown countertops with flecks of white, black, and gray, and it now resembles a pretty quartz counter. I will paint the walls a soft gray color and the baseboards a nice bright white. I plan to recaulk around the shower surround, which is actually in really great shape! Looking forward to completing my inexpensive bathroom makeover this winter! Another great video, Emmy! (I'm still binge-watching!) Such a pretty cake! And it was great seeing/hearing how much your family enjoyed it. Loved the book and seeds gift idea! It was great to see Paul and Dixie in the video too. Love to you all!

My frugal project this week was making bagels! I watched a TH-cam video and gave it a try. I let my bread machine do the mixing and kneading, which cut the work in half. Then I shaped, boiled, and baked them. The recipe made eight at a total estimated cost of $1.00. As you well know, doing your own baking saves so much, and tastes so much better. I just need to tweak the bagel recipe a bit and I think they'll be perfect. The dough for the second batch is in the bread machine right now.

I have a barter type informal arrangement with a friend. This week I made a western lampshade for him by hand sewing a bandana onto a plain lampshade. It is truly a customized and personal design that he wanted. He is making a shelf for my water filter system. Additionally made a new border for a beautiful picture that a friend gave me. The picture had fallen out of the old border. I used poster board and painters tape to reframe the picture.

I'm pretty much the only one who eats cereal and because it has a longer shelf life, I use unsweetened almond milk, but I needed some whole milk for a recipe. What was left started to go sour so I froze it in 1/2 cup portions. I pull out and thaw as many as I need for recipes (used 1 cup for dinner last night). No food waste. A little bit of money saved. WIN!

My frugal deal this week...is what I do every spring or every other spring. I go to Walmart and buy my summer rubber slide shoes. They are formed from one peice of rubber.....usually cost $4 to $8. I wear them working in the yard, gardening, mowing and then spray them off with the water hose when done.
I buy from the children's section and the men's section for the lowest cost. They are cheaper than the ladies section. The shoes remarkably last me two years....at a cost of $2 to $4 a year. And I wear them all summer into fall everyday.
I also buy my socks in the mens section...bc they cost less.

I had to work at the hospital on Easter and I wanted to have my family over after I got off. I didn’t have the time to make a big dinner after I got home and didn’t want to spend a lot on prepared foods so I put a whole chicken and potatoes and vegetables in one of those oven bags. I had my husband put it in the oven about an hour before I got home. All I had to do was plate it up. I got to enjoy the egg hunt and I wasn’t stuck in the kitchen. The food was good and the chicken and fresh veggies I had found at a good price. I saved money and got to enjoy the festivities.

Like Paul's shirt! My husband is all about patching tires. Dixie looks really worried about your untidy bed, lol! A local grocery had great prices on hams that were nearing the " the best by" date, name brand hams in early March. I nabbed two and put them in freezer. Baked one for a church pot luck meal, the other for family Easter meal. Both were delicious, and costs less than the "on sale for Easter" prices!

Beautiful cake! It looks absolutely perfect. I hosted a bridal shower a couple of weeks ago and I had a box of lemon cake mix in my pantry, I followed your suggestion and used milk instead of water and melted butter instead of cooking oil - The mini cupcakes got rave reviews. Next I wanted a special treat to serve with Easter breakfast and I went back to one of your older videos where you demonstrated how to make bagels. I was always intimidated about making bagels even though I have been baking all of our bread for the past 15 years. You made it look so easy and the bagels were amazing! My family can’t wait until I make them again. Both of these frugal baking successes cost me far less than getting lots of fancy ingredients or going and getting bagels from even a grocery store bakery. Thank you so much Emmy and Paul!

Thank you for so your reminders that we can make stuff to go to pot lucks - I did it twice last weekend for Easter at a neighborhood party one day and our church celebration the next day. I also wanted to compliment you paisley print blouse. One of my daughters is named Paisley. :)
I guess my frugal realization for the week was Easter dinner. When I made a store list for what I'd need to feed our clan, I realized that by stocking ahead and being prepared, I didn't need a lot of extra things. I buy butter on sale and freeze it, keep baking supplies on hand (I made 2 desserts and only had to buy a couple of things for them.), I grow and buy herbs and keep on hand, I keep canned veggies, bone broth, etc. on hand. Long story short, I realized that I probably could have made dinner right out of my pantry without shopping if I really had needed to.
    God bless!
