thank you sir. Lets say I was a Banker back in time and now have a resume for machine learning, should I write shortly with 2 bullet points down what I did at the bank or not?
Depends on what kind of machine learning role you're trying to get and what you did at the bank. You want to tailor your resume as much as possible without completely lying, but sometimes you need to stretch the truth a little to give yourself a chance of even getting an interview.
@@CareerShakers Thank you! Learned so much from your videos. Would be interesting if you react to your own resume that you used back in time and what would you change now
If you don't have any work experience, you would use "volunteer experience" or "leadership experience" instead. You wouldn't include a work experience section. But since you graduated last year, you should try to get any type of job so you can put it on your resume to help build it up. Gotta start somewhere!
What if you only have a high school diploma. I did take a certification class years ago for A+ (but never took the exam and its obsolete now) and I have 20+ years experience in the IT field. What should I put in the education field?
I actually just met a Director of product management who didn't go to college and they worked at FAANG companies. They didn't even have an education section on their resume. Companies don't really care about your education if you have 20 years of experience!
You say to add total years of work experience to the resume. In a different video, you say DO NOT mention if you have > 20 years of work experience. So what now?
Love your attention to detail and thank you for watching my videos! This video was created to teach ppl how to make a very basic resume in 5 minutes. It is not intended to show you how to optimize your resume for your situation. In general, you don't need to say you have 20+ years of experience unless you're applying for a very senior level job like principal engineer or Director+. Outside of that, you want to avoid age bias. Next, 99% of resumes don't need to be more than 2 pages so you don't need to have your resume cover more than 20 years of work history. hope this helps
It's a good idea IF your LinkedIn matches your resume. If you're applying for different jobs, it can hurt you to have your LinkedIn profile link if it doesn't match what you're applying for
Thanks for the tips mate. Helped me out a great deal. What's the default score that I should be aiming for on an ATS tracker? I used an online tracker and got a score of 42% for the same job role as my profile
the resume scanner websites aren't always the best measurement of success when it comes to applying for a job (I got a job with my resume and it only got a score of 65%) but you should try to be above 60%
My husband did 20 years of setting up secure networks and worked primarily as a solo member. The government would bring him in and he would set up Secure networks through VPN's etc. He would have a security detail and was not allowed to speak to anyone. He also signed confidentiality disclosures and is limited on what he can tell people about what he did. How do you show this on a resume? He doesn't have skills such as "managed a team of top perfessionals that brought the companies overall sales up by 30%" blah blah blah.
You don't talk about the confidential parts of the work, but you can still talk about the general impact/benefit of the work. For example, "established over 1000 secure networks for high ranking government officials and conducted security audits to ensure data privacy". Or "Proactively prevented network security threats for the white house by implementing top-level security and data privacy measures resulting in 5% less down-time and 2% lower hack risk"

Is it a good idea to include link to link'd in profile at the top with email or will this affect the ats optimization negatively?
