My best day ever halibut fishing was northeast of Port Hardy in Shelter Pass. Caught a 77-pounder and a 101-pounder within 15 minutes of each other. Went back many times and never caught another. 😆

Hey David Paul here. Sorry if I didn’t explain it correctly. The yellow eye gets clipped to the mouth by a pressure released clip. This clip can be adjusted to 100-200+ feet depending on what depth you set it at. Once at the set depth the pressure clip let’s go and the fish is released at that depth. It’s only about a 50% survival rate doing this but without it there a 0% chance of surviving. I feel we should still be allowed to keep one or 2 but these rules are in place as the bio mass of yellow eye is drastically down. Thanks for watching. the deep water rockfish get the “bends” like a scuba diver would get ascending from deep water too fast. allowing the fish to be released at the depth they came from allows the fish to “re pressurize” it self. Great method but wish it was more successful. The key is to try your best to stay away from yellow eye grounds until dfo feels the numbers are sustainable for retention again.

Tough to do tho because there is a TON of yellow eye on the northern coast here in Powell river and all the way up to Alaska and beyond
