I did not know about the plumbers putty trick. I gave it a try on our 2015 Corolla......😲 I was NOT expecting it to work as well as it did! We bought the car new and it wasn't as slick then as it is now! This car is exposed to the elements 24/7 and the putty got a majority of the trash off! Thanks Sam!
I think you have learned a lot more by going through this process than anyone would by just working on the head or an engine swap. I noticed many things that caught you out where you might not have come across any other way. All this gets deposited in the brain bank and gives invaluable experience. In construction its the same for me, working on a remodel or addition is such a learning curve as you get into the guts of the existing building and its individual quirks. So people would rather no surprises I guess, but wheres the fun in that? :) I have really enjoyed watching this.

I, for one, love the focus on super cheap fixes and such with this car. Interesting to see if cheap fixes are as bad as their reputation suggests. EDIT: How on earth could you pass up the Cheetos bike?
That cheap head gasket fix will last around 6 months before blowing out again in the same spot. This ensures the car will run hot again. This fix will end up causing more issues. Try cleaning that glittery crap out of an engine.

No its no permanent repair its a bandaid most the repairs were band-aid fixes. Not sure if you get it in the states, but to remove sticker residue in Australia we can buy eucalyptus oil which you rub on the residue and it removes really easy

Really glad to see you remove the tint from the front windows here in the UK a tint like that would be illegal and police would tell you to remove/pull off as much as possible as they watch or get a massive fine as here there has to be 75% light through front windows and windscreen the police use calibrated light meters too so you cannot fool them ethier. Only windows in UK on car that can be tinted too that extreme are rear windows and rear door windows

I've been using glass setting clay to clean my cars for ages, learned from my dad, the only advantage to claybar is that it lasts longer and it's more "rubery"

I wonder why he would have wanted a Daewoo Lanos? A friend of mine had one and to be honest it wasn't that bad because he had it from the first owner which in turn was a friend of his mother. The only trouble he ever had was not starting because the ground to the ECU was connected to the bottom plate of the car which started to corrode (common problem). It eventually started to get rusty and he drove too much to not switch to Diesel so he got rid of it before it came near to becoming an endless moneypit.

You could have gotten a fair value trade or made some profit off of it since you did add value by putting your labor into the semi-restoration. And I'm sure you can get a charitable write off for the value, prob not the added value of your labor. But giving it to someone that will restore and donate to charity for cancer was a boss move (standing slow clap that steadily increases in speed and volume - while looking around to make sure I was the first person to start clapping - I am b/c my kids are sleeping). Tangent. Anyways, great stuff and you just got a new sub. Looking forward to checking out other vids.
It would have been a good candidate for a basic LS swap. Everything was in great shape aside from the motor, so it would have been smart in my opinion.
Don’t bash what detailers charge for ceramic coatings. We put a lot of work into the prep alone to get damn near perfect before applying a coating. And that coating you are using is a beginner coating anyway. Thanks
Sam 1:47 you say dish soap and say why you can use it... but I missed where in the vid that you say why? Can you explain? Because of ceramic coating? But you used dish soap to wash BEFORE applying the ceramic coating... does it restore/seal the paint finish post using dish soap?

Another video of what not to do on your car. Plumbers putty and clay bar are night and different. I've used both. Clay bars are way more sticky.
