Oakland is a city on the east side of San Francisco Bay, in California. Jack London Square has a statue of the writer, who frequented the area. Nearby, Old Oakland features restored Victorian architecture and boutiques. Near Chinatown, the Oakland Museum of California covers state history, nature and art. Uptown contains the art deco Fox and Paramount theaters, restaurants, bars and galleries.

I grew up in Oakland. Many of the most important events in my life have happened there. Yes Oakland is a tough city but it has a ton of heart and I love her right back. She's a living breathing place. She's what made me who I am. I moved to Virginia after getting married in 1992. I would still move back to Oakland. I love it. It's a special place.

RAFI STAYED IN SAN FRANCISCO. SELLING PRETZELS ON SIDEWALK & SWEEP/ MOP MALL. THAT WAS 40 years ago. WE USED TO DRIVE TO OAKLAND & spent SUMMER TIME @ my aunts hotel. RAFI USED TO HELP WITH MOTEL DESK/ OFFICE WORK alone, while rest of family would go shopping & return to motel @ night. RAFI THINK IT WAS OK . I MEAN @ that age. AGAIN , YOU CAN DOWNLOAD INFORMATION YOU LIKE. THESE LOCAL PEOPLE WERE VERY HELPFUL TO ME. THEY GAVE RAFI CHANCE TO WORK EVERY SUMMER IN EARLY 80’s.
