Hymn | Forty days and forty nights | Heinlein | Playing the organ at night
Please enjoy this evening recording of this Lenten hymn. It has a playover and 6 verses, which are fairly short. I've tried to keep it interesting with different registrations (including a solo coupler for the last verse) and camera angles.

In this video, I play one of my favourite hymns on my home organ, running Hauptwerk with the Silver Octopus Concert125 sample set. I recorded this a few years ago before I had Hauptwerk. th-cam.com/video/BmDGpaZVNvs/w-d-xo.html This is a bit more up-beat, at 100bpm.

I thought I'd just play the vocal parts as solos this time instead of trying to sing it...

An easy prelude. Due to the rubato, the video is a single angle.

Beautiful ❤️
Thanks
Do you know "We 3 Kings"?
I'll look into it
It is January 2025! Aren't you cold in those shorts!?
I live in Australia, so it is quite warm most of the year.
I installed Organ Orgue in my laptop but when I played my keyboard, the organ sound came from my laptop. The sound was too weak. So I never use Organ Orgue again. 🤔😮💨
you have to connect your laptop to the spakers
Organ voices so good you can't tell that it is coming from a piano. That is what Kawai would say, however, you have a Roland instead with a Hauptwerk MIDI programmer for these pipe organ samples.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I enjoyed that very much. Thank you. I like your style of playing for this, particularly with your registration changes for each verse. I do wish more organists would be more adventurous like this.
Nice playing! This is one of my favorite hymn tunes.
Praise the lord 🙏🙏
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Salm 23
Beautiful work, Chris. Love the focus.
How can I install the organ program?
Grand orgue
One of my favourite hymn tunes. The melody and the words. ❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼
Abide with me, fast falls the eventide The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide When other helpers fail and comforts flee Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away Change and decay in all around I see O Thou who changest not, abide with me I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me Abide with me, abide with me
Brilliant version, sounds just like the organist at my dad's funeral
Nice ... But slower and use the pedal bass tone on the manuals..
Thanks to modern technology, it's difficult to fit a 4 or 5 manual pipe organ into a normal house or apartment but now we can buy hauptwerk, Allen, Rodgers, viscount etc and fit it nicely into our homes, enjoying the great sounds of an actual pipe organ, i own a 5 manual allen witch is identical to the first congregation church of Los Angeles, each and every stop and thump and foot pistons works identical to the actual pipe organ of that church
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Good stuff! What sample set are you using?
This is the Silver Octopus concert125
This is very wonderful Chris! I love your chords 🎉
I would love to play this instrument!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Nicely Done, Chris.....Organ sounds super, too!
Because of you, I've decided to improve my organ. Thanks.
Brilliant Organ Playing!
Please the name this your book music
I am playing from Hymns Ancient and Modern Revised.
wow~😀😀😇😇 훌륭한 감동적인 연주
Beautiful!
Wonderful 👏 but what 😳 🤔 about the pipes?
What's the difference between Magnus and Johannus
Thank you for this beautifully done and perhaps most authentic version of Old 100th! God bless.
Thank you Chris, from a new subscriber. Glad I found you. I'm playing Abide With Me for the prelude at church tomorrow. - sincerely, Matt, Mendocino Presbyterian Church, California
How did it go?
Ottimo lavoro!
Wonderful - thank you.
wonderfully hymned Psalms 23. One of my favourite Hymn.
I agree with nearly everything that you said - but suggest that for very large organ sets that a more capable workstation is a good idea - in a parallel setup here (4M+P) 128G RAM MOTU and Tascam Audio... I went down the HP path - Dual Hex and Oct Xeons HP Z800 then Z820 and in the most recent version Z4 with NVME M2 drive. My system(s) get moved to other venues quite often so minimum cabling is an issue as is sufficient flexibility to feed major venue audio systems - balanced audio via DI boxes etc. Your comments on expression pedal position should be noted by all designers - try out some real organs and then take some measurements and adopt those that fit you. Bench height adjustment becomes essential when the instrument is going to be played by others - especially in concert....
We sang this hymn yesterday at Egil´s funeral ceremony in norwegian. I was just in tears. R.I.P. Eigil for evig tid.
I simply dont have the money and probably never have vecause of my country economy.
Very nice. Except for those most awkward monitors though. Waiting to fall. Just use two swingarms.
Nice video. I was a bit alarmed by the statement that your legs are longer than ideal, making operating the swell pedals a bit awkward. You really want a console to be comfortable (otherwise you'll be less included to sit down and play) and I'd have thought that it should be if correctly manufactured to accepted dimensions. I wonder if a height adjustable bench would help to address the situation?
It was manufactured to ago specs, but as this was the first time buying a console, and I hadn't had issues with real installations, I didn't check how well it suited me. Anyway, the pedals are part of the case, so it would awkward to 'lower' the whole base by 2 inches now.
@@chrisorganmusic2862 the reason for my comment is that I had real trouble with a continental console which had been fitted with a Viscount 30-note radiating/concave midi pedal pedalboard. Somehow the geometry was all wrong and, as a result, it was most uncomfortable to play. After a hiatus of nearly five years I am now looking to purchase a new instrument.
My most favorite hymn.
On my digital home organ setup, I switched from a Windows PC to an M1 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, and though it is much cheaper than my old PC setup, it works just as well if not better. I don't have access to some of the professional tools, but it does what I need it to better than my PC. I guess it just goes to show that you don't need to spend a ton of money on your setup, because for a PC like that, you factor in the cost of all the RAM, the processor, the motherboard, the case, the GPU if needed, the SSD, cables, etc. but on a MacBook Air, you just buy a laptop. Otherwise, very informative video.
One of my favorites. Played at my grandfather funeral. I love the old hymns. Thank you for posting.
