It seems a long time ago that Manchester United were struggling to get points under Erik ten Hag at the beginning of the season. Since then, they've started competing in fixtures against teams across the league.
Jon Mackenzie explains how Manchester United have become more flexible and how it allows them to compete in all of their games.

I’m not trying to make any grand statements about how good we are or what we need to do, just as a man United fan it’s nice to have fun watching games again. This team just plays differently and with an effort from the players and the manager that is just a really fantastic change of pace

Agreed!!! I honestly can remember feeling like it was a prison sentence having to watch them play but look, we have to support them thru the bad times as much as we love the glory times. It's why we're Utd fans. If you just want the fake glory, go support man city. But we're Man Utd, were embedded in blood to this club. Men would ditch women for this great club. But we wouldn't pick oil over it eh. A club inspired by massive tragic events, such as, Chapeconese(air flight disaster) where a plane load of tbe football club was lost. No matter what these plastic clubs like man city, PSG, Newcastle do in the future. Remember all their joy was obtained via OIL money while the likes of Man Utd, arsenal, liverpool and others done it the decent ethical way. Same cannot be ever said about a club playing real life FM "editor mode". Such a farce.... RIP Football '22.

There’s still an element of gung ho football in phases, but most of the other stuff looks well planned and well laid out. Watching this a year later is really interesting because I can still recognise these systems and this style in how they play now. But the problems discussed at the end of the video haven't been resolved and the personnel in the rest defence has been weakened through injuries and a deteriorating Casemiro.
The team has struggled to score goals through their pressing, they've struggled to create chances for Hojlund, they've struggled to create breakaway chances for Rashford, and inevitably end up playing more direct, throwing more players forward, and having the rest defence just try to delay counters instead of dealing with them.
It's a whole team problem, that starts with how poor the available back 5 have been at playing out and creating attacks, continues with how poor the front 5 have been at turning attacks into meaningful chances, and finishes with how poor the back 5 are at dealing with transitions.

Ten hag hasn't been in charge for even 6 months yet. It has a high chance of getting better as time goes on, especially as currently a few players like sancho need to improve and martial hasn't been fit who is probably our best striker. That will make a lot of difference in our attack which is lacking a bit.

It's so refreshing to see midfielders pass the ball forwards with purpose, intelligence and perfectly weighted. Martinez is an excellent purchase, great defender, so good on the ball (better version of Daley Blind from Van Gaal's time). Dalot is looking very good now. We are still short of suitable back up for our 1st choice midfield. This will be our achilles heel until youngsters are purchased/developed as neither McTominay nor Fred are that (I cower when they're both on the field together). Ideally, we need one for each role so they can learn off of each of Casemiro, Eriksen & Fernandes. That way we won't look so bad when 2 of those 3 are subbed each match (see Chelsea, West Ham, our Europa matches).
Ten Haag has made a great start, I just hope he isn't left high and dry by the parasites that own the club.

Maguire is actually a good CB, he's just better suited playing in teams that use a mid and a low block. He's far too slow to play in a team that uses a high line and heavily presses. That's why he plays well for England but not for Man U

While the general Tifo analysis about the United vs Spurs game has been largely correct, I just wish they had factored in that spurs couldn’t play another way because of injuries. They needed to go with 3 midfielders. They couldn’t have an aerial presence against the United back line as Richarlison was injured. So, usually what conte does against sides that press high is that he plays long balls/passes into the strikers. Son isn’t good aerially and Kane, while usually decent, wasn’t targeted as much. If Richarlison was fit, Spurs would’ve had that long hall option.
Alternatively, had Kulusevski been fit, Spurs could have worked around the press. The right hand side of Bentancur, Kulusevski, Romero and Emerson (!) was very effective at deep build up against high pressing sides like Arsenal, Liverpool and City last season.
So United’s great performance has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I can see some improvement. But after losing to Villa we have a negative goal difference 13 league matches in. Those early hidings are part of that, but lack of goals is the rest. Finishing position in the league strongly correlates with goal difference. Currently we are heading for a mid table finish if the problem is not sorted. I am not too fussed. I lived through the post Busby doldrums and expected the same after Fergie. MUFC always comes back in the end. We'll never die, we'll keep the red flag flying high and all that.
