People were like Alonso got it all wrong. Gaspeirini's tactics is crazy. They press all match long and they believe the man is more dangerous than the ball. I have seen some of their matches and the way they defend their corners is even ridiculous.

The key was really in Boniface, he should have started the game to duel with Hien, if Boniface could win some balls there, they could caught Atalanta behind their midfield´s back and have all the space. Very good game and very well played by Atalanta, by their road to the finals, both teams were deserving of the trophy, this was one of the best Europa League finals for me.

The Gk might try a long ball, but alonso is particularly allergic to those.

This is a classical 343 / 352 Italy made formation dating from the days of Helenio Herrera's 60s Catennacio and Grande Inter, you could find very similar modern variants in Conte's and Allegri's Juve, Inzaghi's Inter and Lazio, Mazzari's Napoli, Gasp's Atalanta and moreover Motta's last year Bologna, Just watch Serie A and you'll see how this pressure game is often played, and how much the center backs and keepers are involved in the build-up, and attackers are in defense (that's why we're seeing less and less classical strikers in Italy), when applied correctly this formation can outperform the best teams in europe, such as done by Atalanta here, or by Inter the year before against teams such as Bayern, Barça and Man City, Fiorentina also made good back to back runs in conf league thanks to a similar setup, it was experimented by Spaletti against France and they won 3-1 in Paris, although the latter and mancini play in a more classical 4-3-3 formation, which is why they have been struggling in last few years.

debatable. Sure you have an additional free man that can pass, but to whom? The Gk given his position can't go into space, so the pressing can leave it be and focus on the players that are an actual danger , that are all still with an opponent attached to their ankles. It is true that you can just throw a long ball and focus the passes on a player that is strong in the air though, that way, if he can put the ball down, the high midfield line is bypassed and you have basically a 1v1 situation but in an attacking position.

To be fair tactics are not the problem it's just that they press and get goals that nurture their confidence and that same thing puts more pressure on xabi and co... I may be wrong but that's what I think 🧐

I think the starting eleven is not good. Play boniface. Italians teams are hard to break. They were physically strong as compared to other leagues.

Kovar the GK should been used more to break the press. And yea Boniface or Shick should have started. Also Hoffmann and Andrich where missed as well. The teams energy also i noticed dropped for this match. Alonso should have rotated prior the final and started with a proper striker. There would have been more energy as well. I think Alonso Will learn alot from this match for next season next time some team man to man agressivly press them. Everyone hopefully learn from this match for next season. Good luck to Leverkusen next season.

leverkusen being a team way too reliant on space and not really having players capable of creating space with or without the ball was the key problem for them, this game was just a perfect example of how alonso is inexperienced,a dn this game set a standard on how to beat him, i think people forget something basic, some might say that high pressing the whole game is gonna get them tired faster, not if everyone is pressing everyone, if each player is marked, the defender is only going to need to run as much as the attacker, if the defender gets tired so does the attacker

Basically Gaspeirini played good ol' man marking the full game, asking their players to give it all physically.
Very efficient on this game thanks to Lookman, but nothing revolutinary or excting about this "tactic".

huh?thats common sense right?if you have 3cb, you better man mark them or press them tight (yea yea, the stamina issue etc etc)
