    You can put tape around the magnets so if they shatter it will still be contained in a little pile and no big mess

    The expensive custom versions with zip open sections utilize the velcro only to get it positioned and held in place, then self tapping screws are used to hold it's thicker/firmer edging in place more permanently. That could be mimicked here for anyone having trouble with velcro holding in a hot van.

      What I was thinking. It’s 120 degrees where I live currently and the Velcro would definitely melt off.

      @@CreationsByWill Yeah, I plan to put something over it, either thin wood strips, or something like the Polywall from Home Depot in long strips to fasten through it. good luck!

      Mine is coming off, but also the mosquito find their way in through the bottom and down the middle in the spaces between the magnets. They are ruining my life.

    protecting strong magnets is easy if you get not those skinny or slim ones but more the fatter (if you catch my drift) ones which are somewhat more resilient to getting broken also pouch them up in a fabric cover will help a lot to prevent shattered magnets... felt is great to wrap magnets in or even have one side of the pouch in velcro should be useful as well....

    Thanks for the insight. We are renting a Sprinter van in Australia for 6 weeks in April and the flys will be horrid. I will take the screen and your ideas with me and give it a go! Good on ya!

    Hello from Australia. I love what you've done. Very clear and easy to understand. I know your video is 2 years old but I guess instead of bunching up the screen on one or both sides you could draw a line with a marker on the screen matching the door surround and external velcro. Have someone (either of you look capable enough) sew a new velcro strip following the line. Trim and install.

    Hi, Such a great help. Will be using on my 2015 sprinter side door. One question: You mention the top strip of velcro: did you literally adhere the velcro strip to the rubber weather strippping along the top of the door? Also I'm wary of the glue releasing in really hot weather. Is this an issue at all? Was the velcro 'self-adhesive?'... Ok, that was actually 3 questions;-)

      Haha I laughed at that part too while editing the video. We live right under the path to the SLC airport so planes are ALWAYS flying back and forth haha.

      You're not wrong! It is exhausting! Recording and editing videos add a whole other element too. 😅 but it's worth it in the end. Thanks again!

    Nice intro. Love it well explained. We felt the same way when we were building Lolo out. We had a strict budget to meet. A screen door is a must in van life. 😁🙏🏼

      Thank you, thank you! Couldn't agree more on the budget. While a custom one would be nice a $30 one works just as well. 😊

  • @eileenloffredo4603
    @eileenloffredo4603 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great idea! We did this also, however, the summer temperatures in Nevada killed the idea. We got 6 months out of the plan. So, if you don't live in the heat of the desert, it should work!

      On most vans you can set a switch for the interior lights so that they do not come on when a door is open.
