    This video was so much fun! Even though the watch is far beyond what I'd spend on a smartwatch, it was so much fun in its over-the-top ways because of how much you liked it. Great on-the-go traveling shots! I need to get better at that, haha!

    My captain gen 2 comes tomorrow! Finally a watch that blends my love for mechanical watches (the look at least) and an active life! I'm pretty excited I won't have to choose between my Garmin 7x or my Omega. Now I have something awesome in between! A Beautiful to look at Statement piece and smartwatch. Perfection. I loved when you said when a time when a watch says something about someone rather than they just have an iPhone! Exactly why I haven't been able to wear just a regular ole smartwatch. Awesome review brother.

    Well done - Garmin really do bridge the gap between a smartwatch and a mechanical watch very well. And you have shown that very well. Entertaining as always.

    • @theshadowman1398
      @theshadowman1398 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What are you smoking. This has nothing to do with a mechanical watch at all. A mechanical watch is a premium long lasting item while this will be outdated within 2 years.

    • @771Maxim
      @771Maxim ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@theshadowman1398 original model of the garmin instinct watch came out about 3 years ago. They still get updates and fixes.
      2nd model of the instinct got released last year, and the first one is still supported.
      And its a cheap 300$-450$ watch, not a even a thousand dollar one.

    • @haribouss
      @haribouss ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@theshadowman1398 co mon man you got his point. He clearly meant that this watch looks and feel more like a mechanical watch than any other smartwatch. And it is true. Plus these watches have 3+ years renewal cycle rather than 1 year, and got support well beyond 5 years. Ok it is not a timepiece but get so more done.

      Lol. I'm not a watch guy, but even I know. Mechanical watch and this have nothing in common. Mechanicals are masterpieces, these are essentially piece of silicon and battery.

    I'm a competitive runner, I'm on my second Forerunner 735XT (first one lasted 3.5 years). I too charge it about once a week, maybe twice depending on how many miles I run. I don't need smartphone features on my watch because I already have a smartphone, this thing accurately tracks my runs and heart rate and the Garmin app funnels all of the data including a map to Strava seamlessly. This Captain thing is way overkill but I'd still love to have one lol

  • @youjean83
    @youjean83 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I got me the Garmin MARQ Adv. 2 recently, and what I love about this watch is that it is a WATCH before anything else.
    No unnecessary apps which I already have on my phone. The battery and build quality is outstanding!
    What's more, next to being a fitness watch, it is also a good accessory overall. The drawback is, however, the price tag.
    The MARQ 2 is essentially an Epix in a nicer shell and in this regard it is a money sink! So buy it if you greatly enjoy it.

    Started on a Fénix, went to Epix2, but these are on a different level. And one thing many overlook is the support from Garmin in terms of updates and new features. Second to none, Apple included.

      How do you find the Epix2 compared to the Fenix? Have a Tactix Delta, so may upgrade sometime.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jonboyjon1976 The screen is the biggest difference basically. Everything else has the same experience. I came from Fenix6 so I benefited also from the better sensors. Battery wise, getting 15 days solid, no AOD.

      @@jonboyjon1976 I moved from a Fenix 7S to an Epix 2 specifically for the screen. I'm older and I just couldn't see the smaller, dimmer screen on the 7S very well. The 7X might have been better but it's just too big. I'm really happy with the Epix screen, it's bright and easy to view. And I get similar battery life as I did with the smaller 7S, even with that watch's solar ability.

    Grateful for MrMobile not being afraid of reviewing luxury smartwatches. It's pretty hard to come across reviews of this type of smartwatches with this quality of production (i.e., mostly unboxing vids out there). That's one of the reasons I stopped watching Mike O'Brien's vids, exclusively devoted to mainstream gadgets (including smartwatches). Any chance you could review the Tag Heuer E4 45, 42, and/or the Frederique Constant Vitality?

    Great video. One thing i wanted to tell as a video suggestion is the Smartwatch "SuperCharger HR 2.3 from Sequent". This is a swiss hybrid smartwatch with an completely analog display. But what makes the watch unique is that to make the battery last longer it uses a rotor weight to function as a dinamo for charging. It has a sapphire caseback to even look at the tech.
    To the video. I think the video qulity was outstanding. Also the review itself was great thanks to that the watch didnt needed to be justyfied but if someone liked something like that and really wants it, he wont regret it.

    Epix Gen 2 is the best choice for Garmin newcomers. Finally you do not have to sacrifice touch screen and good image quality to join Garmin club. The feel of this watch is something special, sports functionality is extraordinary.
    Indeed amoled screen means less battery life but if you live in the city, it's not a problem to charge your watch once per week. With Fenix series it's once per 3-4 weeks, but the screen would be not that appealing.

    TL;DR - Original Android Wear user/enthusiast from the LG g watch, current owner of a Garmin Fenix 6 pro. Garmin makes the best smartwatch.
    I bought the original LG g watch, I absolutely loved that watch. I then bought a Moto 360 V2, I liked that watch but for some reason it never could live up to the LG g watch. I then bought a Fossil Explorer Gen 4, which broke and was replaced twice. After the third time breaking, Fossil replaced it with a Gen 5. Which promptly broke in the same way all of the others did (The charging contacts issue).
    In 2021 I took up cycling and started learning about the Garmin ecosystem. I happen to find a Fenix 6 pro for sale second hand for $200. I bought it... It is MILES UPON MILES the BEST smartwatch I've ever had. And it doesn't even have a touch screen! While I don't have the money to plonk down for a Garmin Marq series, Garmin makes plenty of other more affordable watches that run similar, if not the same software.
    I see the lack of touch screen as a positive! Not to mention the battery life absolutely puts to shame every other smartwatch on the market today. The Apple Watch Ultra looks downright pedestrian by comparison.

    I occasionally have a bit of buyer's remorse in getting the Fenix 7X Solar because of the low-contrast screen. But then I feel vindicated with the huge battery life - around a month or more on smartwatch mode, with the unfortunately too occasional outing with GPS (ymmv). Was wearing it 24/7 on a 10 day vacation to the beach (with quite a lot of GPS usage), and did not need to charge at all. I'm back home, it's been two weeks, and might charge it one of these days.

    But 2k for a smartwatch is, I don’t know, exaggerated for a PC-on-the-wrist. At the end of the day, there isn’t any artesanal work nor hardware that justify the price on that watch.

    Great review. Please do a review(if you want of course) on the instinct x2 solar , Garmin took the best and put it in such a small and cheap(for most people) package. I'm truly amazed by it.

    Good to see it has OLED now (without degrading the excellent battery life), the old screen really was too dull haha

    • @rafalg87
      @rafalg87 ปีที่แล้ว

      The OLED will not be as readable in direct sunlight though unless you make the gesture to activate it. I know he said at some point in the video that the new screen is just as readable as the old one, but I think that refers to the momentarily increased brightness, not the baseline AOD readability.

    I will never spend anything close to the amount that this watch is worth on a wearable. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this review as well as reviews of smartwatches in general because the category interests me a lot! Another great review from my go-to person for smartwatch reviews.

    Have been looking at these recently, as the gen 1 is on a good sale here(Australia). And I love the longevity of the battery with my other garmins. I also like that you can always see the screen so long as there is light.
    Would have liked a little more review of the AOD. Is it still legible without activating full brightness? Like, a sideways glance?
    Thanks fir all the great reviews.

    So, what chip is it using? I would like to wait for TSMC's N3E fabrication process before investing whatever price they're possibly asking for… (maybe Gen 3?) but exciting nonetheless to see something as Apple not being the pack of the leader here for an entire industry though would need competition from Chinese participation like in smartphones to democratise the market.
