I still love my Gear S3 from 2016. It may not be as regal as the Garmin, but I think it's just as classy and evidently very durable. The steel casing has some scratches and the battery life is reduced but the screen is pristine and rotating bezel still clicks.

Great review as always! For those looking for similar specs in a more affordable range, Garmin makes a whole slew of them! The Fenix 6 line is very comparable for half the cost. Personally went with a Fenix 5 Plus. Titanium version, sapphire glass, for about 450 dollars gets you most of the same bells and whistles!

I'm a mechanical watch guy and I love my Sinn 104, Oris Aquis and Seiko "Willard". I'm interested in smart watches, but the big problem for me is that most of the time the screen is black. I see that Garmin make "always on" watches with good battery life but the battery saving displays are low resolution. I'm tempted to get one anyway, but I'd like to see the technology mature a little more.

While I haven't seen anyone wearing a MARQ series watch, I would say 40 or 50% of Navy Pilots wear a Garmin Fenix series watch. In some commands, they are actually issued one. I know of at least one story where the crew used their Garmin watch to safely navigate and land their jet when they had a malfunction and lost all of their instruments in the cockpit. And don't get me wrong, most of us would love the MARQ or even the D2 series, but they are hundreds (or thousands) more than a Fenix and they only have one or two features that the Fenix doesn't.

@@soa2444 I do still have it…and while it would have been nice to have the gen 2…the gen 1 cost 2 grand…while I don’t mind dropping that and a little more on a traditional Tag or Omega.
I doubt I’ll ever spend that much on a smart watch ever again. If anything I wish I had known they were coming out with the Garmin tactical…I do quite a bit of crazy shit…and that watch would be ideal for most of it.

Great review as usual. I would love to own one, but if I was about to spend almost $2,000 on a watch, I would rather get a Hamilton or Longines automatic and spend the rest on a Garmin Fenix 6. 😄 But I admit, I am not a target customer.

when you mention heft..funny thing is, titanium is made to replace stainless steel as lighter but same strength metal..also a lot of people would love a lighter watch for exercise or daily activities, try running several hours with 100 grams on your wrist and you'll see why you want the lightest watch..

my Fenix 3HR still functions the same as I bought it 5 years. Even the battery is still good. About 5-6 days without running. 3-4 days if I run everyday. I expect MARQ would last 10-15 years.

To double the warranty for such an expensive product from one to two years is a joke.
4 or 5 years seem more appropriate if they designed a high-quality product and trust in their own engineering.

The low res display would help the battery life. Also how does it compare to the ceramic Apple Watch?

I have been using a garmin Quatix5 for sailing. It’s quite useful with all its features for racing in sailing dinghies. I am sure the Marq is useful too.

The downside of a better / higher resolution display is that it will most likely compromise on battery life.

I love smartwatches, ever since I owned the pebble steel and then the Gear S3 frontier. However, Pebble disappeared and eventually o got tired of having to charge my watch every 3 days (and that was better than most). Got myself a Fenix 6 Sapphy and honestly it's miles above anything else. Battery is crazy and can be customized with power modes, fitness tracking is the best, GPS, build quality, scratj resistance, smartwatch features, true always on display that I don't have to worry in battery life, water resistance... And the list goes on! I can't believe it took me so long to discover Garmin watches

I've got the garmin tactix charlie and the biggest selling points were the long 2-week battery life and the sapphire glass which really does stay scratch free. Sure some of the unique options are cool, but really its just nice to see little things like heart rate, calendar updates and phone messages, but I would surely have broken a "regular" smart watch by now with how much of a brute I am.

Its basically the fēnix 6 with some sailor features and over 1k in price. Such a gimic. You can customize a fēnix with bezels and straps to make it look extra as well

I bought my forerunner 645 a month ago from Amazon for slightly more than $200. I have used the Pebble, Fitbit, Ticwatch Pro (gen1) and Amazfit bip. The 645 easily wins it for me. I will always keep my pebble close but Garmin no doubt is the clear winner of the bunch

Yeah I can appreciate your taste in that particular version. Dive watches are very popular. Rolex is a household name after all. I'm more of a Seiko budget aspiring to own an a Lange & sohne kinda guy!
