    Excellent video. A shame that somenone doesn't care to give it the proper care. He doesnot want to spend any money: lack of gratitude (sorry but had to say this). The w211 is underappriciated. Been driving mercedes for over 30 years. 123, 201,124, 210. The facelift versions after 2006 are the best. From the engines the 220 cdi 170 ps is the best performing and most economical. I am driving a 220 cdi manual shift sedan for more than 10 years. Been hit by a swine and a pick up truck but restored it again. No rust, overall consumption 5,1 liter and I do a lot of German autobanh driving with speed of around 160 km/h. Everybody wants the estate but the sedan is also very practical and more comfortable and economically to drive. Really love your channel!

      thank you for your kind words. Mercedes up to 2000 built the best vehicles ever. From there onwards its downhill...the W211 is still a good car but not as good as the W210. From there onwards its just bling bling, not really any different than driving any other brand or model. Never ever will any car manufacturer build something that will last 30 years or more....

      @@heritagesteel1976 depends if u have salt and snow on roads, here in romania all w210s suffer greatly from rust, the w211 facelift is waaay more rust resistand tho

    3.2 om648 engine and 5G tronic automatic Gearbox the best combination just before v6 om642 with 7g tronic gearbox and the problems

    • @heritagesteel1976
      @heritagesteel1976  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      hi. the 5 g tronic gearbox has also some nasty problems. Mechanical problems are: rear planet carrier, the bearings fail. The rear output shaft also wears. The higher the torque the easier they go.... the conductor plate is prone to failure as well as the shift solenoids. Not expensive fixes if you know where to search, but nonethelsss not bullet proof. My conclusion is: from 2000 onwards all vehicles have a significant drop in machining quality, but also consider torque and BHP outputs way higher than pre 2000's so more strain on several components.

      @em4703 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      om642 also can reach 1 mil but you need to pay more close attention to maintenance, especially the PCV valve. That's the root of most of it's problems.

    You are sooo lucky in Portugal for not having any rust on cars... Btw power and torque in the W211 application for this engine is 204 metric hp and 500 Nm.

    • @heritagesteel1976
      @heritagesteel1976  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thats true. No rust here unless you buy a car near the coastline, then extra care is needed. I have seen a classic range rover 50k away from lisbon near the coastline which bas beyond repair. Salt moisture from the ocean is really bad. But otherwise great conditions on almost every car.
      Tuning a 606 is easy, keeping the temps down is hard. I have a couple of friends with tuned 606 they are really impressive. I am personally not a fan of modifying engines that heavily...

    near me there is a 1999 sprinter (2.2l diesel) with 2.7-2.8 milion km and runs decent (still 1st engine)
    i own 2 mercs: w211 from 2004, manual, 2.2l om646 150 hp (runs great and around 5-5.5 liters on the long roads at 100-110 kph)
    w211 facelift from 2007 with the v6 om 642 224 hp, mated to a 5g tronic automatic (its an AWD beast on snow) 7-7.5 on highway speeds
    drove 100k km on both and just a few minor problems here and there, great realiable cars

    • @heritagesteel1976
      @heritagesteel1976  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      they are. Even the cdi's you mention are pretty bulletproof. The OM 642 is a pain to work on and already has some major reliabilty issues, especially when they shifted from double rowed timing chain to a simple one. Problem areas are high pressure pumps and fuel injectors but these are common on all manufacturers

    In the US they never brought the wagon version with the diesel engine.
    I have the 2007 model V6 diesel engine, pretty good car, feels like a tank

    • @heritagesteel1976
      @heritagesteel1976  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The OM 642(your engine) is a problem child. read up on the web...strechted timing chains, oil cooler, injectors, swirl flaps....Not a diesel engine from the old days. If you drive them hard they tend to last longer than city driving and low revvs. Nature of modern diesel engines, clogged with DPF's etc...

    • @marcelcovaci9922
      @marcelcovaci9922 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use the car for highway driving most of the time. For the city I have a S212.
      Yes, I know they are a bit of a problem child but I maintain my car. I try to replace stuff before they break down. I have to do the oil cooler, not leaking but the intake flappers they stuck now and then so while I do that I’ll replace the cooler as well not just the seals.
      This engine was used in so many models. I like the version in my car because it doesn’t have a DPF and diesel exhaust fluid
      Thank you for your input.

    I live in Germany and I have w211 320 cdi OM648 with 400 000 km on it but no rost,. If you don't wanna have rost, you have to wash under the car after the snow goes away and you will have any Prb with rost after doing that.

      The W211 are great cars but if neglegted can easily swallow the purchse price in parts/maintenance. I would go for the W210. Easier on the wallet, less electronics and more bulletproof. Design wise i like them better also, but thats's personal of course
