Good job, very nicely explained, the only thing I missed you doing was the squeak test at the end, it would have been nice to 'not' hear the squeak after you replaced both front ball joints. Why do they wear out so quickly, i've a 2017 C238 (E400) with the same squeak coming from the front left (not as noisy as in your video but still irritating).
The ball joints have no zerk fittings. They wear and get dried out. Which causes the squeaking noise. You are right. In hindsight, I should have shown the after repair result.
Great Video, but one question. If you torque the bolts to spec, why would you turn them an additional 60 and 120 degrees? That would tighten then beyond the torque spec.
Great video. I also happen to face the same issue nowon my W205. Now I know what might cause the problem. Have a great day sir. Just wondering if is it a common problem for mercedes
Thank you for the video. Question, I replaced the lower control arms, but then realize that I may need to replace a ball joint. Do I have to remove the control arms that I replaced first before removing the ball joint?
You don’t have to remove the control arms. Just unbolt the joints. And should have access to the ball joint. The only reason you see me replace the torque struts. Is because they wanted them replaced. But that is not necessary to do the ball joint.
exactly what i was looking for. my daughters merc has this problem and it's embarassing to listen to it. gonna get the parts and do the change. any chance it might be the steering rail ball joints instead of these? thanks for the gret vid!
I have never heard of the steering rack tie rods ends squeaking. Maybe the bushings? If you hear the nosie during the bounce test that I do in the begining of the video. Then it's not the tie rod ends.
How about also using the torque wrench to turn the last 60 degree and the last 120 degree on the respective nuts. This would after using their recommended torque to pretension the respective nuts. Just curious on what they would be. 🤔🤔🤔
Thank you for this video it explains everything in great detail but I do have one question, due to the elongated hole in the subframe end of the arm do you have to have the steering geometry checked so as to avoid uneven tyre wear ?
Nice job. I just wish you had demonstrated the fix by pressing down on the car to show it was fixed. No more squeaking noise. My GL450 has thus the same issue of the squeaking noise. The mechanic says it's my ball joints.

@@InitechAuto Initially, I assumed that the heavy steering was due to wheel misalignment after replacing the ball joint and torque arm, however, after performing an alignment at a tire shop the problem was not solved. Is it safety issue if u don’t fix it?
Eventually, a ball joint can break, but it takes time.
@@InitechAuto then I can 2 months and fix it during my annual maintenance visit. Thank you
Perfect video thanks🔥
Do you do the same suspension compression for Airmatic suspension?
Should be the same.
Awesome
Brother, I have the same sound, but from the back, what is the reason?
I have no idea. You’re going to have to diagnose it.
I have c43 2017 with same problem, not so loud yet. Dangerous?
No, but it should be eventually taken care of.
are you in Fresno Ca? do you work on cars
No, Arizona
If no torch wrench how to know if installed correctly
You won't know. However, this is not rocket science. Just tight will do. It's pretty forgiving. But if you want to do it correctly. You will need the torque wrench.
Please help anyone: I have a 03 E500. I hear a pop while reducing to 15mph in my front end drivers side. Mechanic thinks it’s a ball joint or sway bar link or upper control arm. Anyone???
Where's the pressing of bonnet to show that the sound is now gone.... 😢
Amateur video-making skills.
What brand you go for?
On this car I think I installed Delphi's. Bilsteins are a good choice as well. If your looking for heavy duty. Try Meyle's HD. I have never used them however.
well did the squeaking stop ? You never tested it !
Of course, it did. I should have shown the end result in the video.
@@InitechAuto no shit , that's why everyone was watching your video
@@DLN-ix6vf obviously the problem was fixed! What kind of dumb question ⁉️
@@bugeyegang7573 not as dumb as your comment. Nicoya said he should have shown the end of the video you idiot !
Sehr gut 👍
Merci beaucoup
Question for anyone on this thread... Does the dealer replace only the ball joint or will they replace the whole assembly?
I would say just the ball joint. Makes no sense to replace the whole assembly. You can call the dealer to make sure.
@@InitechAuto I’m in the US. It’s my understanding that these dealers here will change the entire arm. They claim that they don’t want the customer to have to come back for the same issue 🤔
@@AskGriff1 The issue is not the assembly. It's the ball joint. But like I said. Call your local dealer.
Depending on base or 4matic, the upper ball joint apparently is part of the control arm on 4matic. Rear wheel drive has replaceable ball joint as seen in video. If I am wrong I will be happy and hopeful to find the separate part instead of the control arm assembly for $235
is the abc system same?
Should be very similar.
SUPER VIDEO!!!Th.
That stuff came lose so easily. Im having trouble popping my ball joints. They will not pop lose.
What are you using to break them loose?
@@InitechAuto a ball joint separator like the one in the video. They are frozen or something. I used a breaker bar to tighten it AND hammered.
@@changeyourenergy708 I would try some penetrating oil and maybe a pickle fork instead.
@InitechAuto I did use penetrant days ago and let it soak for a day. Yesterday I got two to pop. Can i use heat? Or freezing? Have 3 more to go, plus ball joint to be pressed out of the steering knuckle on both sides. Hope those go a bit smoother.
@InitechAuto used heat on the ball joint for 3 minutes and a couple swings with a 25lb mini sledge and they popped right out. Not even a hard swing...

I bet that noone arround here uses torque wrenches when they are not recording, in every shop ive been they dont use it except the dealer, they dont even have it, it all comes down to the pneumatic gun
I complained to my mechanic about this, and he said it was old age 🤦🏾♂️. I've found a better much thorough mechanic, and cheaper.
Old age. Lol
mine, Squeak will be gone..tq
