    Great video👌i need some help, can estrogen dominance cause high TSH and cause subclinical hypothyroidism? I have this diagnosed,but i know i have estrogen imbalance,i have super low progesteron levels. What is an optimal progesteron levels on blood test?I have so many symptoms like major fatigue,hair loss,dry skin,depression,brain fog,modiness,bloating,headaches/migrain,sleep problems,cold hands and feet, heavy painfull periods with clots,i have been dealing with this for many years no help from doctors.i also have high cortisol...

    • @DrShelleyMeyer
      @DrShelleyMeyer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, so high tsh can contribute to hormone imbalance but estrogen dominance does not cause it usually. It's necessary to work on the high tsh and high cortisol in order to get a balanced estrogen and progesterone. There is not an ideal progesterone as it changes throughout the cycle so typically I say to shoot for mid range on the normals from your lab for follicular, ovulatory, and luteal, depending on what phase you do your testing in. But it's very fluctuant so using the tips in my estrogen videos and perimenopause videos can be very helpful, along with the cortisol and thyroid videos to help balance all of these hormones.

    • @DrShelleyMeyer
      @DrShelleyMeyer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! They are, as they are high in fiber. I recommend making the rice, even when it's brown rice, more of a side item and only using the serving size or less, which is 1/3 cup. Even brown rice can raise blood sugar, less so when it has a legume with it though.

    Dr. Shelly,
    I am 24 and have high estrogen and am taking progesterone pills. My doctor has told me to decrease my estrogen rich foods. While doing research i found that cruciferous veggies increase estrogen but then other research say that it lowers it? Same with nuts. I’m just very confused with this, is there a confined list out there that I can know for sure which foods are estrogen rich so I may decrease them and help my progesterone levels go up.

    • @DrShelleyMeyer
      @DrShelleyMeyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi. Yes, it can be confusing. Cruciferous vegetables help us metabolize our estrogen and push it out so they are very helpful to reducing estrogen, as is eating high fiber in general. There aren't really naturally estrogen rich foods- meats or animals products that come from animals that are fed hormones can be high in estrogen and estrogen mimicking chemicals, called xenoestrogens, as can crops grown in pesitcide laden ways, and eating from plastic containers, utensils, heating plastics, etc. I encourage you to check out my Xenoestrogen videos to learn more about this. The soy foods are a debate, too much to cover in the comments section but some do experience elevated estrogen in relation to soy based foods.
      So, in general, eating high fiber, organic, drinking filtered water, filling your house with plants that filter the air, and following some of the other ideas in my estrogen dominance videos can be very helpful.

    I am not understanding the flaxseeds benefits versus the soy benefits?

    • @DrShelleyMeyer
      @DrShelleyMeyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Flaxseed helps provide hormone balancing fatty acids and fiber. Soy is unique because it contains a high concentration of isoflavones, a type of plant estrogen (phytoestrogen), that is similar to human estrogen but has weaker effects. Soy isoflavones can bind to estrogen receptors in the body and either be estrogen or anti-estrogen like. So , they can beneficial in the ups and downs of perimenopause but if you are consistently estrogen dominant and not up and down you may want to reduce or not use soy.

    Im on birth control. I think generic yasmin. I randomly get insomnia and I think it might be from soy/dairy consumption. Even on this birth control I get hormonal acne. Any advice? My quality of life is aweful right now. :( Im 29 btw. And Ive been on this bc pill for over a year.

    • @DrShelleyMeyer
      @DrShelleyMeyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have found that some women can have estrogen dominance, even on the birth control pill which is unusual. I recommend implementing some of the ideas from any of my estrogen dominance videos, like the diet and lifestyle tips and even some of the supplements if you don't have any contraindications. But it's always best to wait on that until you talk with your healthcare provider and have your individual hormones tested.

    I am only 32 have gained 80lbs in a year after gaining 40lbs in two months recovering from anorexia. I’m not even close to menopause and my weight is skyrocketing, I am borderline obese. I am 45 pounds over my normal weight having gained past my normal weight in recovery and the gain shows no signs of stopping. I don’t know what to do this all happened in one year and I was even eating 1000 calories at one point (probably not a good idea in retrospect but I can’t undo) just to stop the gain and even THAT didn’t cause weight loss. Something about having high body fat made my body even fatter. What can I do I am desperate I don’t want this pattern to continue I barely eat anything and my body is stuck in this starvation mode, where if I eat about 30 calories extra my weight goes up a whole pound

    • @passion84health

      I'm so sorry. With situations like this there is no answer I could give you here that would definitely work. Cortisol imbalance, from the anorexia, stress and low energy intake, could be a factor as could estrogen and progesterone for the same reasons above. It would be good to see a provider that could test those things and is familiar with treating these types of hormone balances. I do have more videos also in Cortisol just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. I hope this helps.
