      Hi, yes you can, that would be a program change.
      You should be able to download the program and tones list for your Roland keyboard from Roland.com... This will have the program number, LSB number and MSB number you will need to add to the pad settings in the vortex wireless 2 editor (check out my editor videos on how to set the pad settings).

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the USB port is the only way to connect to the preset editor software (USB port is 2 way, In and Out, but wireless dongle and midi port are only 1 way... Out) but you should still be able to use the wireless dongle to connect your Vortex to a computer for use with DAW software. The midi port can also be used to connect to a computer for use with DAW software (either by a midi to USB cable or a wireless midi device like the Widi Master).

    I have a couple questions:
    1. What synthesizer do you have?
    I couldn't make it out much from what you said at around 2:26, but all I could hear was "Roland Juno D.O.N.", and nothing like that exists. If you can tell me what synthesizer you used in the replies, that would be helpful.
    2. Does this supposed synthesizer come with built-in / preset sounds into it? I'd hate to find out the one I'm getting requires a computer software to use. Thanks in advance!

      @@IbandUK Sweet, thanks! I do have another question that popped into my mind.
      I've been browsing around on the internet, and I'm not really looking forward to spending too much money. The only synthesizer that I could find that's by the Roland brand and is cheap enough is the "Roland Juno-60".
      I'm not sure if you have one of these lying around or if you have any knowledge about them, but do you think they are pretty much the same as the Juno-Di or the Mc101, having built-in sounds?

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @LukeDaFox
      Hi, the Roland Juno 60 is a very expensive synth that was made in the 1980s, so I think you might be looking at the computer plugin version and not at a real synth. It doesn't have to be a Roland synth but I don't think there is much that is cheaper than a mc101 that supports midi program change messages. Roland now make the Juno DS (although I don't have one, so cannot really advise on it's suitability).

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @adityaasthana1599
      Hi, yes, you can connect the Vortex wireless 2 midi din out to the midi din in on the Roland xps30. The Vortex is factory set to use midi channels 1 and 2 on the keyboard, so you might have to press the correct zone button on the Vortex to play notes on the xps30.
      Also, you might want to download the midi implementation chart for the xps30 from the Roland website, as this has the program change information (if you want to setup the Vortex to change the sound patches, etc).

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eden Meru
      Hi, it depends on the arranger keyboard, some of the more expensive ones have a midi usb host port (type A) that the vortex wireless dongle can be plugged into and should work fine. Most other keyboards with a type A usb port is only for connecting a usb memory stick. You can use the Kenton midi usb host if the keyboard has a midi DIN In socket (or a type B usb port if you use my usb to usb midi hack).

      Hi, yes... You might need to be an octopus though 🤣
      If the synth supports multiple midi channels then you can play different sounds on the synth and the Vortex-wireless-2. My PSR S670 arranger synth supports 16 midi channels and uses channels 9 to 16 for the 3 synth keyboard zones, drum track, accompliament etc, while the Vortex uses channels 1 and 2.

      Hi, first I should say that I dont have a Doremidi or Xps-10, so I'm talking theory here... Assuming the Doremidi has the standard phantom power on the midi Din Out Socket (to power the Widi Master) and the Xps-10 is class compliant (doesn't need a driver to connect to a computer), then yes, it should work fine.
      If you have a class compliant usb hub, you could also try my Crazy USB to USB hack...

    Hello,
    Why can't i connect my Vortex w 2 with my Korg pa4x arranger keyboard, which is the latest Korg product, the best in its class, modern, expensive, and probably (i hope) usb midi friendly? Or is it only possible via Kenton, like you did?
    Best regards.

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Branislav Ivkovic
      Hi, according to Korg the PA4X is a usb midi host so the Vortex Wireless dongle should work fine. Have you tried both USB HOST slots on the PA4X (one on top and one on back panel)? Make sure the Vortex is in upper zone (midi channel 1) which is usually the default channel. I'm no PA4X whizz but looking at Section 54 Connecting Midi Devices (p895 onwards) of the PA4X manual, you may have to setup the Global Channel (p907) and/or a Midi Preset (p908). I don't have a PA4X to play with but I did spot a ready made midi preset on the PA4X named Master Kbd (p913) which might be worth a try.
      Otherwise, get a midi DIN cable and connect the Midi DIN socket on the Vortex directly to the midi DIN IN socket on the PA4X and see if that works... if it does then the Kenton might be the way to go.

    I have a Yamaha MX49, I do notice that my keyboard usb host is not compatible to the wireless dongle. Can I also use the Kenton to bypass this with this keyboard and does it necessarily have to be the Kenton or can it be any similar USB MIDI Host box USB to MIDI Converter?

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      STEddie557
      According to yamaha, the usb-a port is for usb memory sticks, so wouldn't work with the Vortex Wireless dongle.
      You can plug the wireless dongle into the usb-a port of a usb midi host and connect to the mx49 using a midi din cable. It does not have to be a Kenton, but Kenton are very helpful with confirming whether their usb midi host will work with your exact synth and some other makes of usb midi hosts have been observed on online forums to have some issues with working properly.

      Hi, there are not many sound modules to choose from these days, personally I use my waldorf micro q virtual analog sound module I purchased back in the 80s that has midi controls for pretty much everything. I have been trying to get my hands on a skulpt which is a virtual analog synth with comprehensive midi controls too, as it seems like a good match for the vortex but there aren't any in the UK. Beyond the current analog synth fad there only really seems to be the somewhat outdated Roland Integra 7. Fingers crossed though that Roland might introduce a zen core based sound module.

      Hi, thanks for your question. The Vortex Wireless 2 is a midi controller and not a synth so it does not have any sounds built in. The Vortex does come with downloadable software so, if you have an i5 computer, the Vortex can connect to your computer and play the sounds from the downloadable software (once the software is installed). • @IbandUK

      Simple Midi to USB cables work with computers because the computer is a USB host device but won't work with synths USB B type ports or with midi controller keyboards, like the Vortex (and Vortex wireless dongle) because they are not USB host devices.
      There are a handful of expensive synths that have a USB A type Host port that can connect directly though.

Have you had problems loading and running the plugins provided? Example, LOOM downloads, unzips but wont pull up or 'run' on screen and Ableton doesn;t see it, therefore Vortex can't find to trigger. VACUUM acts same. Ableton internal sounds seem ok, I think. The only plugin I had a problem with was Timewarp2600... It wouldn't authorise in Ableton so I had to authorise it in Sonar X1 first.
      I did install all the plugins into a folder called VST on my C drive and point Ableton at it rather than the Ableton prefered folder (so I could use them in Sonar X1 as well as Ableton).
      Might be worth checking that Ableton is pointing to the right VST folder, if its not finding your plugins.
      My loom setup file is loom_2.0.0_Setup.exe so its version 2.0.0
      My vacuum is version is 1.0.7

      Hi,
      I don't have a problem with hung notes/dropouts myself but here are the main reasons you might get them...
      1) Electrical interference with the wireless dongle (wifi routers, other wireless equipment, dirty electrical supply, possibly even mobile phones, etc).
      2) Weak signal (vortex too far from the wireless dongle, too many objects blocking the path of the wireless signal, old or low charge batteries, etc).
      3) Note-off message not sent (changing between upper zone and lower zone on the Vortex while you are still holding down a key).

      Hi, I don't have a Typhon so I checked the manual etc... I noticed the manual says the Typhon accepts program change commands but then didn't give any LSB or MSB numbers for the four banks or pc numbers for the soundpatch memory slots.
      Program change appears to have been added in firmware update v2.0.2, so check your firmware version. It looks like you change bank with CC#0, which is MSB. So try setting a pad to program change with lsb=0, msb=2 and PC=10 and see if a memory slot has been selected on the Typhon.

      Hi, thanks 😀👍
      To tune the vortex down you need to change the transpose setting in the preset (using the preset editor). Check out my transpose video...

    But for modifying the sound of the alesis you need a computer??

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, You need a Windows or Mac computer to change the midi control settings on the Vortex (using the Alesis Preset Editor software). The Vortex has no sounds, it is a midi controller.

    Is the sound determined by the synth setting? Is the advantage not needing a computer in this setup?

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Steve Summers
      Hi, thanks for your question.
      In this setup the Vortex is using the sounds from the synth (usually using the Vortex pads to call up sounds via midi Program Change commands).
      The advantage here is latency, so yes it's about avoiding computers, computers generally suffer from much higher latency than synths. I'm talking live setup here rather than studio setup, where the Vortex player most likely has a synth they use on stage already. Also computers tend to be quite a bit less reliable on stage than synths.

      IbandUK Thanks, mate. Would Roland Lucina work as a synth? That would be a real portable combination.

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Summers
      The Roland Lucina does not have a midi Din In socket so this particular setup would not work. However, it does have a usb B type port so it would work with my usb-midi-to-usb-midi-hack...
      th-cam.com/video/NuKnk3HaZFA/w-d-xo.html
      The hack does work with the Vortex and Lucina (I have literally just tried it), but it does mean more bits to plug in and carry around.

      I don't have a Vortex 1 but I do believe it does not come with a wireless dongle, so it would probably be better to use a CME Widi master plugged into the Vortex 1 midi din out socket and a CME uHost connected to the synth USB B port (or another CME Widi Master if the synth has a midi din in socket and a midi din out socket). Then pair the 2 CME devices together.

      Hi, there is no mention of a wireless dongle with the Vortex 1 on the Alesis website, so I thought that it did not have one but, if it does have a wireless dongle, then it should work with the Kenton the same as the Vortex wireless 2.
