    Those tachometers come with reflective material, put it on the outside of one of the flywheels and then you should get an accurate reading. That metal is too reflective to give a good reading

    Correction. It does not work like a regular engine would, it works much more like a steam engine, except it used heated air rather than heated water

  • @SuperPeter05
    @SuperPeter05 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    One side heats the air, the other side cools the air. Use ice on the cooler side to make it faster.
    It's not like a regular engine that needs new air, this air expands in the hot side and contracts in the cool side, then flows back to the hot side to expand again. You need to get rid of the heat on the cool side 👍

    To put it basically, Sterling engines work on heat difference. So those more upright ones you've seen, with the circular bases - you can heat the bottom, and balance ice on the top (below the wheel) to get maximum RPM.
    I'm not 100% on the validity of further youtube videos about them as their uses are pretty limited, but they are fun regardless. There are kits around that you can hook them up to LED bulbs, though.

    Sterling engines work by the expansion of gases in a closed system air will expand when heated and contract when cooled. How a sterling engine works is when one side is heated it will expand pushing the piston then when the hot air gets to the other side of the cylinder it will cool and contract pulling the piston back in the opposite direction. You probably cracked the glass causing it to not be under vacuum anymore

    They are low pressure engines, it's not going to explode. That is one of the key reasons why they were developed, because at the time steam engines were King and had a habit of gaining to much pressure and blowing up. Stirling engines need heat as well as a proper heat sink in order to work well. Without a heat sink the engine will eventually lose efficiency and stop or something will either melt or crack and you lose the working fluid. That is why the engine stopped

    This person has no idea how it works, that´s why he expected it to blow up etc, which of course is noit going to happen.

    You need to aim it at a spot where there is ONE dark zone & one light zone per turn. You won't get that on wheel with multiple spokes. Put black marker on rim of wheel. Your readings seem bogus. If you know the frame rate of the video, you can get speed from that.
    You need to COOL the heat-sink part of the engine. When you heat with 2 torches, you need to heat from both sides. The heat shortly bleeds to the heat sunk, warming it up, reducing the output of the engine.
