    The dad's PTSD episode with Tommy supporting him due to his own ongoing PTSD and how badly he finally understands his father's suffering all these years is heartbreaking - decades of hate for his father and in a moment it all changes, it didn't justify what his father did, but for Tommy he just saw another man hurting the same way he is hurting

      Dude I kept it together through all of the movie but at that point I said F-it and started balling... didn't help that the end at "I love you" came with such a great song and then I totally lost it. Never had another movie destroy me like this one..

      Literally from the moment Tommy gets his arm broken, with the music and the emotion, I cried like biatch. That is raw broken family emotion. I haven't experienced it, but you feel the sincerity and what it may be like. Tom Hardy is so talented it is unbelievable. To go from a hard man who no-one has sympathy for in Bronson to this, my god.

    Think this movie really highlights well how complicated families can be. Yes we all hate the dad for what he did to the mother and the boys - but what we can learn from is that forever hatred will just grow and consume you - you can tell that Tommy just 24/7 angry like his presence just walking he just an angry man because the hatred has consumed him. The acting was just 1st class and you can feel the emotions. really emotional at the end when he was like "tommy i love you its okay" honestly just so touching. great movie and great reaction.

      My dad left when I was 10 I’m 36 now, I still seen him now and again growing up, he wasn’t a very good dad at all, but now I’m an adult I don’t hold no grudges, I give a few hours on a Friday to have a few pints with him no and again, at the end of the day not everyone can be the best parent but he’s my dad and I love him to bits even tho he was a shit dad as a kid, I just rip the piss outta him now at the pub it’s great, the bonds good

      I agree, would you say Tom hardy is in the top male actors in the world? One of the only actors/actresses who legitimately made me cry. Outstanding in his versatility even though he plays "hard men". So good especially compared to apparent sex symbol like Harry Styles blehet.

    also, tommy is fighting purely fueled by rage, whereas brandon learned how to fight smart. AND brandon can take so many hits because he was used to blocking blows from his dad growing up

    • @MegaMilenche
      @MegaMilenche 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But it's also significant to note that, despite the fact that Brandon may have been beat up by their dad more than Tommy, it was Tommy who went to inherit the addiction problem.

    • @RayNotCharles

      I never thought about that. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I’d seen a trailer for it and then I saw it on the Walmart shelf and without even hesitating, I just immediately bought it, and was hoping for the best. Absolutely fell in love with it after the first watch, and it has since become one of the most re-watchable and best movies I’ve ever seen. Yeah, it’s a fight movie, but it’s also got a very compelling emotional storyline. Kind of like Rocky.
      And I had never thought about what Brendan and Tommy had gone through physically at the hands of Paddy when they were younger. It never truly elaborated on the abuse that they probably were victimized by. It really only tells you how Paddy treated their mom. So, I’m not sure if it was a sarcastic remark, or not, but it actually makes sense. I think it is usually the older sibling that usually takes the worst beatings from the abusive parent. I honestly wouldn’t know, the Lord blessed me tremendously, I have two great parents who have never been abusive. But I can only imagine that it’s probably the oldest sibling that takes the worst abuse. So then, with Brendan, he’s much more defense oriented and looks for any opportunity he can to swiftly take his opponent out. Whereas Tommy is just fueled by hatred and aggression from seeing his family be brutalized all the time and then going through what he went through in the Marines, with his close friend being killed by friendly fire of all things. He literally probably just had a mental break down and the only way he knew how to express those feelings was through fighting and aggression. The only thing he’s really ever known.

    Easily one of my favorite films of the past decade. As someone with a brother who is a martial artist, and a late father who struggled with alcohol and substance abuse for most of his life, it's a film that hits a little closer to home.

    The crazy part with Bisping is he kept the fact that only had one eye quiet, he kept it from the UFC, the doctors, since he would have been banned from fighting immediately if they found out.

  • @michaelriddick7116
    @michaelriddick7116 2 ปีที่แล้ว +67

    This movie hits close to home. Alcohol addiction runs in my family. I have an older brother, who's a Marine.
    Hardy and Edgerton play brother's VERY well.
    You love your brother but there is always an unspoken anger underneath everything ... that final fight, Tommy doesn't tapout until he tells him he loves him 💔😭😭 Then he helps him walk out.
    Nolte relapsing after a VICIOUS dressing down from Hardy, and the Moby Dick audio tape .... 💔💔💔😭😭😭 His life is the Peqoud, he's Ahab and he doesn't know how to turn the ship around. He knows how it ends and he's DESPERATE to avoid that outcome but everytime he reaches out he's rebuffed. He desperately needs a chance for redemption. It's only before he passes out does he tell Tommy he always loved him ...
    A movie every man should watch imo ..

    Something I noticed about Tommy is his relationship with physical touch: when his dad tries to rub his shoulders before his first fight, Tommy instantly hisses at him to stop. Everything physical that he does is aggressive.
    But then, when his dad breaks down, he goes to him, hugs him, and holds him.
    Then, when Tommy himself breaks down at the end, he lets Brendan hold him and be there for him.
    Also, dude, harping on Ode to Joy?! Man 😂 Literally based on how Greg Jackson, an AMAZING fighter/trainer, uses and loves classical music lol

    This movie probably propelled Tom Hardy to stardom. He was very good in this movie. This is a little like Rocky, it has ton of heart and emotion. Great movie.
    Edit: I had one teacher I respect alot because in his class he used really cool methods of teaching like get us in a group and we had to hold lectures about a subject like we were teaching (that was groundbreaking for me because first time) and also he had us go outside where we would compete. We had to sprint and the first one to the bell had to answer a question about the subject. So fun.

    I didn't know a single thing about this movie and ended up watching pretty much by accident during a long flight. It was the only movie in the in-flight entertainment options that I hadn't seen and I figured what the hell, it has Nick Nolte and the guy who played the young version of Luke's uncle in the Star Wars prequels and the less famous guy who was in Inception. By the end of the movie I was choking back tears because how could life be so unfair that they had to fight each other for the championship. This movie masterfully manipulates your feelings as a man. It's like Rocky on steroids.

    Wonderful choice.
    Brandon may be also the personification of Rich Franklin, the math teacher who became UFC champ. Koba may be Fedor, a legend that never lost a fight until he arrived in US....his opponent clearly being the underdog and he (Fedor) lost by submission in a big suprise for everyone.

    I enjoy your reactions. You're so full of energy and engaged with what you are watching, but also pay attention. If you have not watched Ford vs Ferrari, you should react to that film. I think you will love it. Stars both Christian Bale and Matt Damon. Believe it won an Oscar for sound editing or something, nominated for Best Picture. My second favorite film, next to Warrior. Not as deep, but very relatable.

    Teared up watching this because my older brother had it rough with my dad and we would always fight when we were younger. Now we’re all good but damn this hit home a little too much.

    edit: The dad was listening to Moby Dick the whole movie, so he's listening to it on tape in the hotel room while he's drunk. He's calling out Ahab for chasing the "white whale" to his own destruction.

    I hate shaky cam for the most part too, but I also think that it shows the feelings in a real fight. Time is different and if you get hit, everything feels twitchy. Things start running on instinct rather than rational thought. I prefer that than slow-mo because that feels overly practiced and prepared
