I promise you, loss amplifies appreciation, and true love requires surrendering. That is something that a child who's never loved and lost cannot grasp. You THINK you do, which is great, but you don't.
Of course you can "miss" anyone. I miss my girl and my dog when I'm at work. You're confusing the concepts of missing someone, and loss. Loss is missing something you cannot repair. It's gone, and you must accept that condition. Getting to that realization is what makes people truly appreciate those around them, and what they have.
Lol and, my friend, humanity as a whole is proof that we cannot/will not evolve until required(breaking point) aka adulting requires the acceptance of responsibilities.

Reading through this: You are both right. I used to think you could be happy without ever being sad. I think you can but you don't have the depth, or frame of reference as to how lucky you are. The intensity of something you've never experienced the opposite of isn't the same. Poverty and Wealth for easy examples.
I was abused physically/verbally/emotionally. I seek out these kinds of movies and reactions as food for the soul. But it did give me depth and intensity, it also broke parts of me like one of the posters is saying. If anyone running this channel reads this, do the movie sleepers 1996, please. I always request it but it'll be a hard one to get through, as it takes this and dials it up a notch. Almost like the movie was written by someone who understood some of the consequences of abuse on personality and psyche, the entire tone of it seems to come from someone who was abused in some way.
In movies showing abuse you can also see it in how intense some of the characters are, because abuse is intense, it dials life up to an 11. Everything no matter how small can end up an argument or beating, I mean anything, leaving the door open, putting the TV remote down in the wrong place. It's one of the ways your life is affected for a while till you learn how most of the world lives more normally. That also means positive emotions can be more intense too, like your emotional guidance system is on full blast, what you consider happy I might have considered elation. It's high drama. Fight or Flight, everything is a battle. Manipulation for Control. Evading like Will does here or Jenny does in Forest Gump. Armoring yourself up so you don't get hurt but let anybody in. Hiding is common etc. Failure is fatal and resisted or evaded, because before it used to be a beating or day-long shouting match. You quit things for control, or before someone hurts you because part of you remembers that pain, problem or situation being a lot worse than it actually is in real life.
Anyway, thanks for reacting to this guys, won't ever get tired of seeing this movie reacted to. Shame there are so few good therapists or counseling movies with a happy ending.

My god, to see Ash so upset and say "I wish someone could have saved him" That must be the most beautiful reaction I have ever seen. Robins death was such a tragedy, and to see Ash show his emotions was heartbreaking. You are both amazing and i love your reactions ❤️
It's one of the saddest things in the world that a man who spread so much joy to so many people died alone and sad. He had to go at some point, and in some way. But the fact that he was alone is the worst.

I completely agree. Robin was the most humane human of all. He was a beam of light in this world. It's truly devastating that he's gone. But i know that the best thing we can do to honour him is continue with joy, peace, love and compassion. Without this, in the words of Jack (1996), ''life is fleeting''.
@@existenceisrelative It is definitely sad, but we have to keep in mind that he didn't die because of a mental health issue. They thought he had Parkinson's. It was progressing very quickly, and he did not want to put his family through that. It was only discovered after his death that he had Lewy body dementia, which is progressive. There wasn't a way to save him because there is no cure and no way to stop the progression.

This might be the closest to a perfect movie. The fact that Matt and Ben wrote this screenplay so young blows me away. RIP Robin Williams. Amazing performance

The closest to a perfect film I've ever seen is The Shawshank Redemption but this one is not far behind.
True, it is a real gem. If I could change one tiny aspect, I would *slightly reduce* the school yard beat down Will unleashes. Sure the anger, fighting has a place there, but in My opinion, they laid it on too thick- probably 4 or 5 punches too many. ;)

I didn't have so much respect fo Matt et Ben as actors, but years ago when I learned they wrote this (and when they were so young) it blew my mind. So love this movie and story, it resonates so much in me.
And THIS is what make you wonder why theses past decades, movie writers and professionals ARE SO BAD : they don't even get close to a two young actors script, and make so much garbage nowadays
I met Robin Williams three times over 15 years, & he remembered me, just a guy. He was really good with faces & remembering people. When he passed, I cried like he was family. The only celebrity death that ever crushed me. I'm tearing up just writing about it now. That man was a a well of joy & the thought that there was no one able to save him still stings so much.

I never met him and he is only one of two celebrities i cried over. I was a teen when i saw him on Mork and Mindy and i was an instant fan. Ive loved his work and his personality from then on. It hit me hard when he passed though i didnt know him.
he was an empath of the highest order. and after a while that kind of total connection to people's emotional conciousness can take its toll. it did in his early career as he was no saint on the drug scene back in the day. it's still hard to watch his films now and not get sad. although its getting easier to remember the good times.
I met him twice myself. Once in NY and once in SF, and he not only remembered me that second time we met up in a donut shop in downtown San Francisco two years after the first meeting that was a brief five-minute encounter going down an elevator at an agency in NY that continued for a couple minutes in the lobby, but remembered my name.
He was absolutely the greatest comedic actor to ever live, and a beautiful human, and like you, he's the ONLY celebrity I've ever wept over the death of.

It wasn't a cancer, I stand corrected. But still, he commit suicide because of a terrible diagnosis

The phrase "How do you like them apples." actually came from World War 1. It was in reference to the anti-tank grenade called a "toffee-apple". It was a phrase used to taunt the Germans when they blew up the tank. The phrase became a popular way of taunting your enemy if you beat them at sports. This is why the line is funny - because he walked him into the phrase by asking "do you like apples?"

I've come back to this like five times. I almost feel like Ash leveled up as a person as he viewed this. Robin talks about losing his wife and you can almost see Ash imagining losing Hannah and it scares the shit out of him. It's beautiful and wholesome.

To expand on Hannah’s point she made two times. Matt and Ben wrote “Good Will Hunting”. They both grew up in Cambridge and went to high school not far from Harvard. While at Harvard Matt wrote what was the genesis of the movie and brought in his buddy Ben to help write. They wanted the script to be their launch board into the industry much like Sylvester Stallone wrote “Rocky” but insisted he play Rocky. The really smart part was to write themselves two unknowns parts but anchored by a major star for funding. Somehow Robin Williams read the script, said yes, and the rest is history.
Robin did win his only Academy award as best supporting actor in Good Will Hunting. He took a chance on two kids. RIP Robin.

Ash, please don't cry, please know he was sick with a disease that would kill him soon and in a horrible way. He wouldn't have been alive right now. He blessed this earth for the time period he was meant to. I hope you can eventually make peace with the loss of him. His passing struck me hard as well, and for a long time, but I finally had to do my own research on his situation and what I learned about it helped me to be able to make my own peace with it. Now I just smile at the wonderful way he impacted our world. Hugs to you.
This is honestly one of the most powerful reactions to a movie I have ever seen. Because we got to analyze the message of Good Will Hunting, got to hear Ash’s “Good Will Hunting” story, and I got to absorb all of this knowledge into my life. You could say I’m in Act 2 of my good will hunting story still. But this wasn’t just a reaction video to me, it’s a gift. So thank you Ash and Hannah.

Ash- there is a documentary that Robin Williams widow made after he passed and they got his autopsy results. He didn't kill himself because of depression. He killed himself because his brain was dying and he didn't want to keep burdening his family with his determination. It's called Robin's Wish. It's here on TH-cam.
Yes, Lewy body dementia. His wife, Susan Schneider Williams, has done amazing work to raise awareness/raise funds for research. Even though it is a terminal illness there are treatments to improve quality of life for those final months or years, but correct diagnosis is very difficult (it can only be confirmed by autopsy). Hopefully someday there will be a cure because no one should have to go through that.
You guys should definitely watch “The Dead Poet Society”, it is another of one of Robin William’s best works.

The park bench monologue is one of the greatest monologues in film history IMO, One thing that always amazes me about Robin Williams is that other actors have primes as in their work gets better or fades. With him he was always on form. Another classic for me and based on a true story is awakenings, Robin Williams and Robert de Niro. Love you guys.
Yeah he was absolutely amazing. The fact that he’s probably most well-known for his comedy but is also one of the best dramatic actors as well just shows how talented he was.

@@Ottamus_Prime oh man for sure, film and cinema has change sooo much the past 20 30 years but there’s nothing again in my opinion that’s gets you moved more than amazing actors.
In simple terms… Will grew up an orphan and experienced severe childhood abuse. As a result, he approaches all relationships with mistrust and is unable to show his vulnerabilities. He is unable to establish a lasting intimate relationship, is suspicious, defensive, and shuts people out before they get the chance to abandon him. Fun fact: the last line by Robin Williams as ad-libbed.
That monologue by Robin Williams on the park bench is widely regarded as one of the best in film history. His delivery is so honest and pure, it really feels
like he let some of his own real quiet despair out to provide the emotion in it. The story about his wife farting in her sleep? Robin made that up on the spot,
totally ad libbed it. The laughter is genuine.
The part that gets me with the farting story is even the camera man was laughing, trying to hold it in to not break the scene which is why the camera shakes during it.

Ten minutes into this reaction video and all I am seeing is a grown man acting like a childish fratboy turning all the dialog into a sexual innuendo. She must feel like she's still at work with her students at times. I hope this gets better out of respect for a film masterpiece.

In regards to the "It's not your fault scene," since Matt Damon respected Robin Williams so much, he couldn't hit him, lie to him, or deflect (couldn't be defensive in the ways he's used to). So he had no choice but to deal with the reality of what he was saying. Matt Damon's acting is brilliant here. You can see him kind of bobbing and weaving left and right as if he's looking for a way out of the situation just before he breaks down and cries. So powerful and raw. One of my all time favorite movies ❤️

I always thought it was weird when people would cry over someone that is famous and passes. When Robin Williams passed, I choked up and waited until I was alone and let my tears go. Believing that he was so happy and must have so many people around him, then finding out he died all alone. I love watching his films, they always make me laugh, even when I don’t want to.
This film resonates with me deeply, and I can't get over the fact that Damon & Affleck wrote it when they were 25-year-old kids. And so many towering actors in it!

I love it so much that they left it in the movie and we can see the camera shaking. It is so wholesome in a way and I know Robin really liked to make people laugh.
It's incredible how dialed-in Hannah is on this film! She saw the length and the breadth of this story right from the get-go! She nailed it! Wow!

I struggle with those dark thoughts often, there's a lot of deep seeded pain inside my heart but just as you, I wish someone could've healed his before it became too late. But you're a good guy, Ash, it shows in these videos; your humanity, your compassion, your humor, I wish you and Hannah the very best.

Robin was such a loss to the world, he was a man that made people laugh and feel good and to have such a man struggle in such a way and come to such a tragic end is heart breaking for anyone with an ounce of empathy.

I absolutely second this. Even if you’re not a “traditional” gangster movie fan, it’s an amazing (but mostly true) story told in an epic, violent, cynical, darkly comedic masterpiece.
This is probably the best reaction video I have ever watched on TH-cam. My cousin knew Robin Williams pretty well and she told me that he was the nicest, most down-to-earth person. When he died, it felt like losing a member of the family. There will never be another like him.
It's no coincidence that Matt Damon was good in this role, cus he's a mega-genius in real life, he went to Harvard, his I.Q. is purportedly 160, the same as Stephen Hawking, and he is one of the youngest people to ever win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, at just 27, when he won for co-writing this film with Ben Affleck.
I like Matt Damon. And even though his IQ is supposed to be 160, he's still an idiot when it comes to his own political views.

A child being physically abused, neglected and in a home where there is mental illness and alcoholism is equivalent to a soldier in intense combat during wartime. It causes PTSD for the child that will stay with him his entire life...and in this film you can see what this does to the now adults decision making skills....it's all caused by the abuse at such a young age. What Will does and says in this film makes perfect sense to me...some of the finest acting that I have ever seen by Matt and Minnie.
That scene where Robin Williams tells Matt Damon about his wife farting in her sleep and the two of them crack up was Robin Williams just ad-libbing outside of the script, so Matt Damon's laughter was real. Also Robin Williams' line of "Son of a bitch, he stole my line." at the end was not scripted, he added that in himself.
Ash crying was so cathartic, I think for both him and for most of us. This movie hits a nerve with so many people.

Ash I wanted to refer you to the Psychiatrist Jordan B Peterson’s online lectures in which he encourages young people especially young men how to orient themselves in life.
We all miss Robin so much. He was a beautiful soul and touched the hearts of all of us but he couldn’t be that for himself. I wish someone could have been there for him too. What an honest and lovely reaction! Please don’t shut Ash’s emotions down. God bless both of you!!!

Can you believe that these two young men wrote this absolutely riveting, gut wrenching movie as there very first project? So well written, so well acted. Every character except the girlfriend had issues. They all evolved during this movie. Trauma from past experiences can follow you for a lifetime if not dealt with at some level. What a way for the start of these two actors careers. And Robin Williams was one of the most talented persons I ever watched in movies.
They originally wrote it as a conventional Hollywood thriller, where Will has to go on the run from powerful people hunting him down because he 'knows too much' about something.
Someone in Hollywood steered them away from the conventional and advised them to drop the whole thriller aspect and focus on the relationships between Will and the people around them.
(whoever that person was also deserves a lot of credit for what the movie became, imo)

Hanna's scriptwriting mind was on top of the plot in "Good Will Hunting" from the start. She caught on to Robin Williams and Matt Damon's characters eventually helping each other overcome their fears in therapy. She picked up on Will Hunting pushing people away as a defense mechanism. How Sean would have to break down Will Hunting at a deep less superficial level in order to achieve the therapy breakthrough. Since most people coming to therapy are already looking to open up but it takes a special therapist to break down someone hiding behind all their posturing. Excellent, Excellent delve into the workings of Hanna's mind.
This was such an amazing reaction Ash and Hannah. I've watched it 3 times now because it's just so visceral.
Ash, your love for Robin Williams really comes through in this, and I've never seen a movie affect you so deeply. Robin’s passing affected me significantly and I still think about him and miss him after all these years. I remember how I used to pop into Staines high street during lunch. A couple of days after Robin’s passing there were people in the street highlighting mental health issues, which I’d never seen before. Of course, Robin’s problem wasn’t only mental health, but if his passing had even just a small impact on the importance of mental health, then that’s his parting gift to us. I still wish he were with us, but from that I feel he lives on in some small way.
If you've not already seen it, I'd highly recommend watching Awakenings. Robin does a wonderful performance in that (as does DeNiro), and is just as loveable.
A lot of Hannah's comments on this were completely on point too. I also loved that she commented on how Robin's face just looked so kind - which is something I've thought myself.

I enjoy Robin Williams as a comic as much as the next person, but it's his more "serious" films that really get to me. Good Will Hunting, One Hour Photo, Awakenings, What Dreams May Come, Dead Poet Society, The Fisher King, Good Morning Vietnam, Final Cut.
Agree completely, and would add World According to Garp.
Maybe even Dead Again, depending on whether a thriller falls into the "serious" category, and though his role was small.

The scene where he says over and over that it isn't Will's fault hit me so hard as a survivor of child abuse. You believe as an adult that you're fundamentally wrong or broken... To really HEAR those words that it wasn't your fault... It hurts and feels like relief all at once.

When Robin passed away, I cried like my mom when she knew my dad died at the hospital, and as I see, I'm not the only one who finds Good Will Hunting a meaningful movie. Thank you for making this movie reaction, I love you both guys.

I feel you didn't get the point of Professor Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgard). He is a scientist. So am I. And scientists dedicate their lives to their respective fields. Especially someone who got Fields Medal (as Lambeau does). Believe me, in order to get that medal person must work as hard as a few people do. And a person must sacrifice A LOT to get it done.
Will here shows the level of genius that surpasses the intellect of almost every person in the world. And from Lambeau's POV, Will has an OBLIGATION to work for the good of mankind. Because no one else can do what he can. And Will's refusal to work comes at cost of a potential greater future for all humanity.
In other words, Lambeau has no personal gain. And he is not seeking personal gain. But, It is true that he is willing to sacrifice the life of Will for the math. But in his perspective, it is worth it. Because a potentially better future for everyone is worth more than the life of one man (Will). It's simple math.
This isn't criticism; I agree with you and your point is well made, but "that he is willing to sacrifice the life of Will for the math" is what blinds him to Will's humanity, which acts counter-productively to the end he is trying to achieve (which is noble, he is just taking the wrong strategy toward leading Will to that end)
@@notmee2388 True. What I think is that none of us can judge the priorities that Lambeau has. He believes that it is worth sacrificing his own life for math. And it is his choice, we shouldn't try to change his mind just because we don't agree with him. Cause we all have different priorities. And we can't apply our priorities to the life of another man.
But that's what Lambeau is doing. He has no right to do that. He can believe that's what Will must do. But that is Will's choice after all. And Lambeau can't make that choice for Will.
In the end, just to be a little fair to Lambeau. He is definitely wrong. But he is not a villain. Because I think, whatever he thinks Will must do, he himself is ready to do that as well. Meaning he is not forcing or making Will do, whatever he himself can't do. In other words, Lambeau has made sacrifices himself as well. And thinks Will must do them as well.

I know this was posted a couple years ago... but his death really affected me too.. i want you to know that Robin didnt take his life out of depression or sadness... he did it because he had a degenerative brain disease & he was going to lose his memory... prolly thought hed be a burden. Hope that knowledge helps.... it made me feel better about it. ❤
I remember walking around in my front yard when I looked at my phone and saw the news about Robin. I sat down in the grass and just stared off into the trees and remember they seemed a little less green. We got to see some of the best years of Robin and his scene on the park bench with Damon remains in my opinion the single greatest monologue I have ever felt in a movie. Take a chance and make yourself vulnerable with someone. And Ash, you nail that with every reaction. Love getting to experience this again with you guys. Much love from Illinois.

People with childhood trauma, especially men who grew up feeling/being abandoned gets destroyed by this movie.
It's a tale of a boy who's never been loved and therefore can not love him self or others, a tale of what a person with non existing self worth looks like.
This movie has helped more people realizing what the root of their problems are more than any other film. It helped me and I'm sure it has saved hundreds of suicidal young people thru out the years since it got released.

The telling of Will HUnting's story it's so very unique - an abused genius, traumatized and broken needs to find his deep needed healing from grief and redemption to move forward to the greatness trapped within his pysche . What takes the story to the next level like you guys said, it's not only that the people around Will that help him, he also helps them.
the professor encouraging a incredibly talented person isn't exactly selfish. will was scared and needed to sort himself out first.
I've seen Robin's monologue on that park bench so many times, and it still makes me tear up. Best monologue in movie history, in my opinion. Robin deserved his Oscar for this movie.

I love this film so much. It is so much fun watching people watch it for the first time because EVERYONE is blown away by it. I have never seen your channel before but I really loved watching you. You are freaking adorable together. Will definitely check out your channel again.
This is in my top 3 fav movies of all time. I had to go through therapy and counselors starting from a young age, since my parents split up when I was 2 years old. The "it's not your fault" scene gets me every time because it's so true, and kids/teens dealing with stuff like that, really do think it's their fault. Also I think it's beautiful that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck recieved an Oscar for writing this, and Robin Williams winning his first Oscar for best supporting actor. (I THINK it was his first. Correct me if I'm wrong.) Anyways. Great reaction! Love seeing you and your girl interact. It's special.

Thank you for being so vulnerable with us. I mourn every day that Robin isn't with us. Sadly, Robin couldn't be saved. It wasn't mental health though. They thought he had Parkinson's and it was progressing so fast; Robin didn't want to put himself and his family through it. It was only after his death that it was discovered he had Lewy's body dementia. I've read a lot about the illness over the years, and...😭 he wouldn't had quality of life.
