Almost like the movie was written by someone who understood some of the consequences of abuse on personality and psyche, the entire tone of it seems to come from someone who was abused in some way. In movies showing abuse you can also see it in how intense some of the characters are, because abuse is intense, it dials life up to an 11. Everything no matter how small can end up an argument or beating, I mean anything, leaving the door open, putting the TV remote down in the wrong place. It's one of the ways your life is affected for a while till you learn how most of the world lives more normally. That also means positive emotions can be more intense too, like your emotional guidance system is on full blast, what you consider happy I might have considered elation. It's high drama. Fight or Flight, everything is a battle. Manipulation for Control. Evading like Will does here or Jenny does in Forest Gump. Armoring yourself up so you don't get hurt but let anybody in. Hiding is common etc. Failure is fatal and resisted or evaded, because before it used to be a beating or day-long shouting match. You quit things for control, or before someone hurts you because part of you remembers that pain, problem or situation being a lot worse than it actually is in real life. Anyway, thanks for reacting to this guys, won't ever get tired of seeing this movie reacted to. Shame there are so few good therapists or counseling movies with a happy ending.

In a world that's so fake most of the time Ash's heartfelt "I wish someone could have saved him" hit me so deep. Robin was the first actor I remember seeing. I think I tear up every single time. Thanks for being real and raw Ash!
I met Robin Williams three times over 15 years, & he remembered me, just a guy. He was really good with faces & remembering people. When he passed, I cried like he was family. The only celebrity death that ever crushed me. I'm tearing up just writing about it now. That man was a a well of joy & the thought that there was no one able to save him still stings so much.
I never met him and he is only one of two celebrities i cried over. I was a teen when i saw him on Mork and Mindy and i was an instant fan. Ive loved his work and his personality from then on. It hit me hard when he passed though i didnt know him.
he was an empath of the highest order. and after a while that kind of total connection to people's emotional conciousness can take its toll. it did in his early career as he was no saint on the drug scene back in the day. it's still hard to watch his films now and not get sad. although its getting easier to remember the good times.
I met him twice myself. Once in NY and once in SF, and he not only remembered me that second time we met up in a donut shop in downtown San Francisco two years after the first meeting that was a brief five-minute encounter going down an elevator at an agency in NY that continued for a couple minutes in the lobby, but remembered my name. He was absolutely the greatest comedic actor to ever live, and a beautiful human, and like you, he's the ONLY celebrity I've ever wept over the death of.
The best line in this wasn't even in the movie. "You see all those guys; you're that for me." Open heart in public. Epic and tender and unashamedly loving.👍 Well done.

It's one of the saddest things in the world that a man who spread so much joy to so many people died alone and sad. He had to go at some point, and in some way. But the fact that he was alone is the worst.
I completely agree. Robin was the most humane human of all. He was a beam of light in this world. It's truly devastating that he's gone. But i know that the best thing we can do to honour him is continue with joy, peace, love and compassion. Without this, in the words of Jack (1996), ''life is fleeting''.
@@existenceisrelative It is definitely sad, but we have to keep in mind that he didn't die because of a mental health issue. They thought he had Parkinson's. It was progressing very quickly, and he did not want to put his family through that. It was only discovered after his death that he had Lewy body dementia, which is progressive. There wasn't a way to save him because there is no cure and no way to stop the progression.

It wasn't a cancer, I stand corrected. But still, he commit suicide because of a terrible diagnosis

True, it is a real gem. If I could change one tiny aspect, I would *slightly reduce* the school yard beat down Will unleashes. Sure the anger, fighting has a place there, but in My opinion, they laid it on too thick- probably 4 or 5 punches too many. ;)
I didn't have so much respect fo Matt et Ben as actors, but years ago when I learned they wrote this (and when they were so young) it blew my mind. So love this movie and story, it resonates so much in me. Ash- there is a documentary that Robin Williams widow made after he passed and they got his autopsy results. He didn't kill himself because of depression. He killed himself because his brain was dying and he didn't want to keep burdening his family with his determination. It's called Robin's Wish. It's here on TH-cam.
Yes, Lewy body dementia. His wife, Susan Schneider Williams, has done amazing work to raise awareness/raise funds for research. Even though it is a terminal illness there are treatments to improve quality of life for those final months or years, but correct diagnosis is very difficult (it can only be confirmed by autopsy). Hopefully someday there will be a cure because no one should have to go through that.
The phrase "How do you like them apples." actually came from World War 1. It was in reference to the anti-tank grenade called a "toffee-apple". It was a phrase used to taunt the Germans when they blew up the tank. The phrase became a popular way of taunting your enemy if you beat them at sports. This is why the line is funny - because he walked him into the phrase by asking "do you like apples?"
I've come back to this like five times. I almost feel like Ash leveled up as a person as he viewed this. Robin talks about losing his wife and you can almost see Ash imagining losing Hannah and it scares the shit out of him. It's beautiful and wholesome.

Because we got to analyze the message of Good Will Hunting, got to hear Ash’s “Good Will Hunting” story, and I got to absorb all of this knowledge into my life. To expand on Hannah’s point she made two times. Matt and Ben wrote “Good Will Hunting”. They both grew up in Cambridge and went to high school not far from Harvard. While at Harvard Matt wrote what was the genesis of the movie and brought in his buddy Ben to help write. They wanted the script to be their launch board into the industry much like Sylvester Stallone wrote “Rocky” but insisted he play Rocky. The really smart part was to write themselves two unknowns parts but anchored by a major star for funding. Somehow Robin Williams read the script, said yes, and the rest is history. Robin did win his only Academy award as best supporting actor in Good Will Hunting. He took a chance on two kids. RIP Robin.

That monologue by Robin Williams on the park bench is widely regarded as one of the best in film history. His delivery is so honest and pure, it really feels like he let some of his own real quiet despair out to provide the emotion in it. The story about his wife farting in her sleep? Robin made that up on the spot, totally ad libbed it. The laughter is genuine.
The part that gets me with the farting story is even the camera man was laughing, trying to hold it in to not break the scene which is why the camera shakes during it.
Ten minutes into this reaction video and all I am seeing is a grown man acting like a childish fratboy turning all the dialog into a sexual innuendo. She must feel like she's still at work with her students at times. I hope this gets better out of respect for a film masterpiece.

The park bench monologue is one of the greatest monologues in film history IMO, One thing that always amazes me about Robin Williams is that other actors have primes as in their work gets better or fades. With him he was always on form. Another classic for me and based on a true story is awakenings, Robin Williams and Robert de Niro. Love you guys.

I struggle with those dark thoughts often, there's a lot of deep seeded pain inside my heart but just as you, I wish someone could've healed his before it became too late. This film resonates with me deeply, and I can't get over the fact that Damon & Affleck wrote it when they were 25-year-old kids. And so many towering actors in it! The two of you are very sweet together, and it warms my heart to see your affection. Ash, I was surprised to hear that English is not your first language; I never would have guessed. Ash, please don't cry, please know he was sick with a disease that would kill him soon and in a horrible way. He wouldn't have been alive right now. He blessed this earth for the time period he was meant to. I hope you can eventually make peace with the loss of him. His passing struck me hard as well, and for a long time, but I finally had to do my own research on his situation and what I learned about it helped me to be able to make my own peace with it. I love it so much that they left it in the movie and we can see the camera shaking. It is so wholesome in a way and I know Robin really liked to make people laugh.

Can you believe that these two young men wrote this absolutely riveting, gut wrenching movie as there very first project? So well written, so well acted. Every character except the girlfriend had issues. They all evolved during this movie. Trauma from past experiences can follow you for a lifetime if not dealt with at some level. What a way for the start of these two actors careers. And Robin Williams was one of the most talented persons I ever watched in movies.
They originally wrote it as a conventional Hollywood thriller, where Will has to go on the run from powerful people hunting him down because he 'knows too much' about something. Someone in Hollywood steered them away from the conventional and advised them to drop the whole thriller aspect and focus on the relationships between Will and the people around them. (whoever that person was also deserves a lot of credit for what the movie became, imo)

It's no coincidence that Matt Damon was good in this role, cus he's a mega-genius in real life, he went to Harvard, his I.Q. is purportedly 160, the same as Stephen Hawking, and he is one of the youngest people to ever win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, at just 27, when he won for co-writing this film with Ben Affleck.
I remember walking around in my front yard when I looked at my phone and saw the news about Robin. I sat down in the grass and just stared off into the trees and remember they seemed a little less green. We got to see some of the best years of Robin and his scene on the park bench with Damon remains in my opinion the single greatest monologue I have ever felt in a movie. I always thought it was weird when people would cry over someone that is famous and passes. When Robin Williams passed, I choked up and waited until I was alone and let my tears go. Believing that he was so happy and must have so many people around him, then finding out he died all alone. I love watching his films, they always make me laugh, even when I don’t want to.
My cousin knew Robin Williams pretty well and she told me that he was the nicest, most down-to-earth person. When he died, it felt like losing a member of the family. There will never be another like him.

The telling of Will HUnting's story it's so very unique - an abused genius, traumatized and broken needs to find his deep needed healing from grief and redemption to move forward to the greatness trapped within his pysche . What takes the story to the next level like you guys said, it's not only that the people around Will that help him, he also helps them.
In regards to the "It's not your fault scene," since Matt Damon respected Robin Williams so much, he couldn't hit him, lie to him, or deflect (couldn't be defensive in the ways he's used to). So he had no choice but to deal with the reality of what he was saying. Matt Damon's acting is brilliant here. You can see him kind of bobbing and weaving left and right as if he's looking for a way out of the situation just before he breaks down and cries. So powerful and raw. I fell in love with Robin Williams from first moment i saw him when Mork and Mindy first came out. He was just about the funniest guy id ever seen. After seeing this i was amazed at this other side of him and the range he has as an actor. One of the very few celebrity deaths that ever affected me, it was a body blow to me. What a man.

That scene where Robin Williams tells Matt Damon about his wife farting in her sleep and the two of them crack up was Robin Williams just ad-libbing outside of the script, so Matt Damon's laughter was real. Also Robin Williams' line of "Son of a bitch, he stole my line." at the end was not scripted, he added that in himself.
Hanna's scriptwriting mind was on top of the plot in "Good Will Hunting" from the start. She caught on to Robin Williams and Matt Damon's characters eventually helping each other overcome their fears in therapy. She picked up on Will Hunting pushing people away as a defense mechanism. How Sean would have to break down Will Hunting at a deep less superficial level in order to achieve the therapy breakthrough. Since most people coming to therapy are already looking to open up but it takes a special therapist to break down someone hiding behind all their posturing. Excellent, Excellent delve into the workings of Hanna's mind.

It's difficult to put into words exactly what it was about Robin Williams that touched so many people so deeply. I can't recall a single other instance where I felt so completely crushed by the death of someone I didn't know personally, and there's no other way to explain it except to say that there was a sincerity to his performances that always seemed genuine and heartfelt. It's hard not to be affected by that, because you feel a sense of connection with an actor that can make a character feel that real. I wish someone could have saved him, too--and I know I'm not alone.

This is one of my favorite movies of all-time. So many lines by Robin were ad libbed while they were filming and his performance was so good they decided to keep them in. His death is one of the very few celebrity deaths that not only shocked me, but also saddened me. The fact he lived the majority of his life and career fighting his battles with mental illness only made me admire him so much more. Often times I get angry when a good person takes their own life, in his case I believe it's one of the rare instances where he was too good for this world and if he felt peace by doing that, so be it.

In a world that's so fake most of the time Ash's heartfelt "I wish someone could have saved him" hit me so deep. Robin was the first actor I remember seeing. I think I tear up every single time. Thanks for being real and raw Ash!
I met Robin Williams three times over 15 years, & he remembered me, just a guy. He was really good with faces & remembering people. When he passed, I cried like he was family. The only celebrity death that ever crushed me. I'm tearing up just writing about it now. That man was a a well of joy & the thought that there was no one able to save him still stings so much.

I never met him and he is only one of two celebrities i cried over. I was a teen when i saw him on Mork and Mindy and i was an instant fan. Ive loved his work and his personality from then on. It hit me hard when he passed though i didnt know him.
he was an empath of the highest order. and after a while that kind of total connection to people's emotional conciousness can take its toll. it did in his early career as he was no saint on the drug scene back in the day. it's still hard to watch his films now and not get sad. although its getting easier to remember the good times.
I met him twice myself. Once in NY and once in SF, and he not only remembered me that second time we met up in a donut shop in downtown San Francisco two years after the first meeting that was a brief five-minute encounter going down an elevator at an agency in NY that continued for a couple minutes in the lobby, but remembered my name.
He was absolutely the greatest comedic actor to ever live, and a beautiful human, and like you, he's the ONLY celebrity I've ever wept over the death of.
The best line in this wasn't even in the movie. "You see all those guys; you're that for me." Open heart in public. Epic and tender and unashamedly loving.👍 Well done.

It's one of the saddest things in the world that a man who spread so much joy to so many people died alone and sad. He had to go at some point, and in some way. But the fact that he was alone is the worst.

I completely agree. Robin was the most humane human of all. He was a beam of light in this world. It's truly devastating that he's gone. But i know that the best thing we can do to honour him is continue with joy, peace, love and compassion. Without this, in the words of Jack (1996), ''life is fleeting''.
@@existenceisrelative It is definitely sad, but we have to keep in mind that he didn't die because of a mental health issue. They thought he had Parkinson's. It was progressing very quickly, and he did not want to put his family through that. It was only discovered after his death that he had Lewy body dementia, which is progressive. There wasn't a way to save him because there is no cure and no way to stop the progression.

Ash- there is a documentary that Robin Williams widow made after he passed and they got his autopsy results. He didn't kill himself because of depression. He killed himself because his brain was dying and he didn't want to keep burdening his family with his determination. It's called Robin's Wish. It's here on TH-cam.
Yes, Lewy body dementia. His wife, Susan Schneider Williams, has done amazing work to raise awareness/raise funds for research. Even though it is a terminal illness there are treatments to improve quality of life for those final months or years, but correct diagnosis is very difficult (it can only be confirmed by autopsy). Hopefully someday there will be a cure because no one should have to go through that.

It was a phrase used to taunt the Germans when they blew up the tank. The phrase became a popular way of taunting your enemy if you beat them at sports. This is why the line is funny - because he walked him into the phrase by asking "do you like apples?"

I think the reason Robin Williams holds a big place in a lot of our hearts is he was like the dad everyone wished they had.
I've come back to this like five times. I almost feel like Ash leveled up as a person as he viewed this. Robin talks about losing his wife and you can almost see Ash imagining losing Hannah and it scares the shit out of him. It's beautiful and wholesome.
This is honestly one of the most powerful reactions to a movie I have ever seen. Because we got to analyze the message of Good Will Hunting, got to hear Ash’s “Good Will Hunting” story, and I got to absorb all of this knowledge into my life. You could say I’m in Act 2 of my good will hunting story still. But this wasn’t just a reaction video to me, it’s a gift. So thank you Ash and Hannah.

To expand on Hannah’s point she made two times. Matt and Ben wrote “Good Will Hunting”. They both grew up in Cambridge and went to high school not far from Harvard. While at Harvard Matt wrote what was the genesis of the movie and brought in his buddy Ben to help write. They wanted the script to be their launch board into the industry much like Sylvester Stallone wrote “Rocky” but insisted he play Rocky. The really smart part was to write themselves two unknowns parts but anchored by a major star for funding. Somehow Robin Williams read the script, said yes, and the rest is history.
Robin did win his only Academy award as best supporting actor in Good Will Hunting. He took a chance on two kids. RIP Robin.

That monologue by Robin Williams on the park bench is widely regarded as one of the best in film history. His delivery is so honest and pure, it really feels
like he let some of his own real quiet despair out to provide the emotion in it. The story about his wife farting in her sleep? Robin made that up on the spot,
totally ad libbed it. The laughter is genuine.
The part that gets me with the farting story is even the camera man was laughing, trying to hold it in to not break the scene which is why the camera shakes during it.

The park bench monologue is one of the greatest monologues in film history IMO, One thing that always amazes me about Robin Williams is that other actors have primes as in their work gets better or fades. With him he was always on form. Another classic for me and based on a true story is awakenings, Robin Williams and Robert de Niro. Love you guys.

His passing struck me hard as well, and for a long time, but I finally had to do my own research on his situation and what I learned about it helped me to be able to make my own peace with it. The Phrase how do you like them apples comes from WWI. U.S. had grenades that looked like candy apples designed for killing tanks. Soldiers would often shout how do you like dem apples when throwing those grenades.

You two are just the loveliest most genuine people. Robin Williams was such a good soul, I sat here on the couch and was sobbing along. We are so lucky that he left a bit of himself with us via his films.
Can you believe that these two young men wrote this absolutely riveting, gut wrenching movie as there very first project? So well written, so well acted. Every character except the girlfriend had issues. They all evolved during this movie. Trauma from past experiences can follow you for a lifetime if not dealt with at some level. What a way for the start of these two actors careers. And Robin Williams was one of the most talented persons I ever watched in movies.
They originally wrote it as a conventional Hollywood thriller, where Will has to go on the run from powerful people hunting him down because he 'knows too much' about something.
Someone in Hollywood steered them away from the conventional and advised them to drop the whole thriller aspect and focus on the relationships between Will and the people around them.
(whoever that person was also deserves a lot of credit for what the movie became, imo)

It's no coincidence that Matt Damon was good in this role, cus he's a mega-genius in real life, he went to Harvard, his I.Q. is purportedly 160, the same as Stephen Hawking, and he is one of the youngest people to ever win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, at just 27, when he won for co-writing this film with Ben Affleck.

I remember walking around in my front yard when I looked at my phone and saw the news about Robin. I sat down in the grass and just stared off into the trees and remember they seemed a little less green. We got to see some of the best years of Robin and his scene on the park bench with Damon remains in my opinion the single greatest monologue I have ever felt in a movie. I've seen Robin's monologue on that park bench so many times, and it still makes me tear up. Best monologue in movie history, in my opinion. Robin deserved his Oscar for this movie.
I always thought it was weird when people would cry over someone that is famous and passes. When Robin Williams passed, I choked up and waited until I was alone and let my tears go. Believing that he was so happy and must have so many people around him, then finding out he died all alone. I love watching his films, they always make me laugh, even when I don’t want to.

The telling of Will HUnting's story it's so very unique - an abused genius, traumatized and broken needs to find his deep needed healing from grief and redemption to move forward to the greatness trapped within his pysche . What takes the story to the next level like you guys said, it's not only that the people around Will that help him, he also helps them.
In regards to the "It's not your fault scene," since Matt Damon respected Robin Williams so much, he couldn't hit him, lie to him, or deflect (couldn't be defensive in the ways he's used to). So he had no choice but to deal with the reality of what he was saying. Matt Damon's acting is brilliant here. You can see him kind of bobbing and weaving left and right as if he's looking for a way out of the situation just before he breaks down and cries. So powerful and raw. One of my all time favorite movies ❤️

Hanna's scriptwriting mind was on top of the plot in "Good Will Hunting" from the start. She caught on to Robin Williams and Matt Damon's characters eventually helping each other overcome their fears in therapy. She picked up on Will Hunting pushing people away as a defense mechanism. How Sean would have to break down Will Hunting at a deep less superficial level in order to achieve the therapy breakthrough. Since most people coming to therapy are already looking to open up but it takes a special therapist to break down someone hiding behind all their posturing. Excellent, Excellent delve into the workings of Hanna's mind.
I’ve watched about 20 of your reactions over the past couple months because you two are such an entertaining yet cute couple. I am so glad I went all the way back to watch this one. I can't recall a single other instance where I felt so completely crushed by the death of someone I didn't know personally, and there's no other way to explain it except to say that there was a sincerity to his performances that always seemed genuine and heartfelt. It's hard not to be affected by that, because you feel a sense of connection with an actor that can make a character feel that real. I wish someone could have saved him, too--and I know I'm not alone.

We all miss Robin so much. He was a beautiful soul and touched the hearts of all of us but he couldn’t be that for himself. I wish someone could have been there for him too. What an honest and lovely reaction! Please don’t shut Ash’s emotions down. God bless both of you!!!

This is one of my favorite movies of all-time. So many lines by Robin were ad libbed while they were filming and his performance was so good they decided to keep them in. His death is one of the very few celebrity deaths that not only shocked me, but also saddened me.
The fact he lived the majority of his life and career fighting his battles with mental illness only made me admire him so much more. Often times I get angry when a good person takes their own life, in his case I believe it's one of the rare instances where he was too good for this world and if he felt peace by doing that, so be it.

Hey Ash, been watching your clips for a while (started with 300 haha), I LOVE how OPEN and DIRECT you are with showing your love. So many guys out there today are just SCARED to show emotions because they might come off weak.
