@@kimberlyberlin4999 I went to the DMV to get my license renewed a while back. I am always surprised at some of the nice things donated to thrift stores or consignment stores. You can get great pieces at a fraction of the price. And it truly is about how you put it all together which is one thing Kay is helpful in demonstrating!
Loved all your no spend tips for a stylish Fall wardrobe. My husband plans on retiring June 2023 so I'm working on spending less while still looking chic and classic, so this video was perfect timing for me. I don't know if you have ever done a tour of your closet. I'd love to see how you organize your closet!
This a great video to aid me in using what I already have! The Lord's whispering to me that I don't need another piece, and there are better ways to spend right now! You are a breath of fresh air, Kay! Thanks and Gos bless you!
The Lord spoke to me as well I moved out of state and moved from a house to an apartment and a lot of my clothes are in storage and I have way too many clothes honestly so yes I don't really need to buy anything else I really really need to shop my closet.
Thank you! I have recently retired and I was fretting because half of my fall clothes are from work. I was not looking forward to going through everything and making a shopping list. Now I’m inspired to see if I can create a fall wardrobe with what I have by using your ideas of mixing and dressing up. I have been in the rut of thinking I need all casual clothes now.
Lynn, if you have the room hang onto those work pieces a little longer. I have been retired since 2012 and with the inspiration of Kay and others I have learned how to pair elevated with casual for some very nice outfits. Maybe try experimenting a year and donate what you’ll never use after that? Best adventures in your retirement.
Great video about keeping your wardrobe current on a budget, Kay. What I like to do to change up my look seasonally, and not break the bank, is to purchase a new lipstick and nail polish. Fall is my favorite time of year, and it’s fun to pick a new modern color and change my look slightly.
This video was well done and very thoughtful. Thank you for the ideas. Honestly all my life I never gravitated to the monochromatic look thinking it was boring. However when it became recently on trend again, I decided to try it a few different ways. I wore a Navy sweater with a dark Indigo denim jean and I was surprised how slimming it looked and people's reactions. Instead of buying a jumpsuit this summer, I paired a black tank and a black wide leg cropped pant. It looked so elegant. I'll be doing that more this fall and winter with pieces I already have.
How refreshing to see a stylist reach out to those on a budget who want to stay stylish without buying anything or very little. Some great ideas in this latest video - thank you!!
Mixing dressy & casual has been in style for many, many years!! I'm from the South and was taught to always dress up. Took me years to learn to dress down!!! Yes!! I'm pulling out my clogs!!!
I remember reading something from a lady writer a few years ago who learned that she had a terminal disease. She encouraged her readers to not “save your better clothes, jewelry and shoes” for a special occasion. She said wear them every day and ENJOY them. When my husband retired and was home everyday (he’d always left before I got up when he worked) he would ask me where I was going because of the way I was dressed. Haha! I’m still that little girl playing dress up and I love shopping my closet. Thank you for this particular video.
I wear dresses every day, it’s hot where I live but wearing dresses is so easy and so fun, I always feel put together. I get tons of compliments but I find most of my friends don’t like dressing up. They wear those capris, jeans and tee, all pretty frumpy, which can happen as we get older. When I have to go somewhere with them, I always felt like I had to dress down for them until I read this, Never dim your light to match someone else’s!
I deal with this all the time. I live in a small coastal town in the subtropics. People live in tees and flip flops here. I wore a skirt to an antique car show and my friends asked me why I was all dressed up. It was just a cotton pencil skirt to right above the knee. I just said, I'm not all dressed up, you should see me when I am though! 😂
Every year I purchase ONE key anchor item that’s timeless and of excellent quality that I can use for years. In my collection: Great leather shoulder bag (3 years ago purchase)… a linen jacket …. A great pair of equestrian style leather boots… this year I just punched a black leather belt that I can wear with jeans, over a tunic or jacket.. with a flowy skirt… belted high over my linen shirt dress. I’ve learned to be minimial in number of items bit select high quality. And it’s NOT about the designer. I don’t care about labels…. I look for quality. Thank you for all you do for us ♥
I wear the same blazers and skirts from year to year and I get still compliments! They would be surprised how long I’ve had them. Just take care of what you got. Less expensive items will keep if you take care of them. Thanks Kay. If you are wearing a good color and style for you, it will look good regardless of price.
I am focused on building a curated capsule wardrobe that is based on my lifestyle ( I am semi-retired now ) I want to have a signature style that is in alignment with my skin colour, my body shape and proportions, and my height. This video is my second favourite you have done. My all-time favourite was and is the retirement capsule wardrobe video. Fingers crossed you will do more of them.
Thank you Kay for this video. I have several silk big shirts from Talbots. I love wearing them with slim ankle jeans and a nice shoe. They are comfortable and make me feel like I can go anywhere and be "dressed for my day. " 😉🥰
I really appreciate this video and the encouragement to shop my closet. I think it’s a fun challenge to see if I can figure out a fall wardrobe with existing pieces, and my budget could sure use a rest right now. Thanks!
You always have such great tips for us older girls. I can't tell you how much you inspire me. I do need to invest in that one nice blazer. In the past I spent money on less expensive clothes but they just don't hold up. So thanks again for your timeless pieces. ❤
Loved this video…whenever I dress monochromatically, I get complements. I had to laugh when you spoke about the “boxy” blazer trend. I lost some weight and now my blazers are boxy! I’m right on trend without spending a dime!
I was given multiple pieces of Pendelton clothing. They're from the 40's. What really was a surprise is that these pieces are perfect. THANK YOU regarding all the information you share🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for this video. I think so many of us are trying to stay on budget. I just retired. I have some of these basic pieces. Now I feel confident I can use these things and be fashionable.
Thanks for the tips. Yes, everybody is feeling the pinch this year. Keep hoping this will pass sooner than later. I bought so many pieces the past 2 years, so need to pare back a little. Just looking for special items to add to my wardrobe that I know I will wear for years to come, and added with what I have.
Kay, you are a lifesaver. After gaining weight my wardrobe no longer fits. I still want to feel good about my appearance when I go out, but don't want to spend a lot while I am struggling to lose weight. You have shown me how to look better with just a few chosen pieces. Thank you so much!
Great content, I bought a great blazer last fall. It would be great to have a shopping the trends to go with our classic blazer for late fall through spring.
Good Morning Kay, such a perfect video for these trying times. Money is tight and as you mentioned everything has gone up. Looking at what you already have and rethinking how you pair things together is a great strategy when the wallet doesn't allow for shopping. Thank you so much for doing this video! I strive to be a good steward with my finances and it can be depressing when the fashions I love most are so expensive. You have inspired me to pull the clothes out of my closet and reevaluate what I have and wear things in a stylish way! Thanks, Kay! 🤗
I loved this video, Kay! The ideas of monochromatic colors together and keep it simple with solids encouraged me in my dressing. You are thoughtful and kind in your suggestions and share so much great style information! Thank you!!
I am a tunic/leggings girl. It goes with my apple figure. 95% of my wardrobe is split between those and dresses. I’m not opposed to the current trends, they are just not as flattering.
I’m glad to watch this video. I just cleaned my closet out. And I’m trying not to buy a lot of clothing this winter. I have a lot of clothes still. I have the guest room closet full too. That’s some of what I took out of our bedroom closet, so my husband could fit his clothes in. He hates trying to get through to his clothes. But I made room for him anyway. I even got rid of shoes and gave him a shoe rack. I now need to get my sweaters out of a chest of drawers in the office, junk room, and put them in the cedar chest in our bedroom. I hardly ever wore sweaters because they weren’t close when I would get dressed. Now I’m going to put my off season clothes in the chest in the office. I’ve had them in totes in our bedroom for a few months. My next house will have more storage. And a way bigger closet in the master bedroom. I did see when I was cleaning out my closet that I didn’t have any white button up shirts. Well, I bought a few. Now I have to make room for them.
I prefer not to have music while you’re speaking, thank you. As for links, I’m always happy to support your channel by using them; everyone needs to make income, and you work hard for us. I'm so glad you showed the green utility jacket. I almost bought one at LLBean, but holding off as it's pricey at $109. I'm going with the Caslon now, it's just as nice and I can do $79. It looks great with the jeans and navy top, that's exactly how I dress most days, minus the jacket with our hot weather here in central Texas. That jacket will be perfect for late Fall and Winter for our climate. Curious what size was that green jacket? I'm usually a 12-14 but the reviews said it ran large. Thanks for sharing!
I really like the top you have on in this video. Such great suggestions for us so that we can dress more put together when we walk out the door. I do feel better when I dress better even if I’m just going for my allergy shots and to buy groceries.
So glad to hear faux tortoiseshell is having a moment, I bought several fashion jewelry pieces a few years ago and then haven't worn them since all the lock downs.
Thanks for all the tips. I was just thinking about how many clothes I have and that I should try a six months no spend. I do love prints and plaids however and will try to look stylish with those too.
Thank you for this. I liked your suggestions. I am not working, so I'm a little out of touch. My mom and her mother were fashionable ladies. And I live in the city and I'm out most days. The suggestions are good, here. We all want to look nice. The discount stores are hit or miss, but that is my budget. Why videos like this, help! Are taller girls here having trouble with fit? The cropped/baggy thing and the ripped jeans? I'm having trouble finding classic basics that are well made and affordable (and that fit). 🙈
Great video. You read my mind..I was thinking along those lines and I then I watched your video and looked in my wardrobe and have now put some really nice outfits together. A very clear and inspirational video making me feel no pressure to shop. Thanks.
Love your positive attitude. All your outfits look great too. On the subject of jeans I have an old slightly flared pair I never thought I could get into but I am beginning to get them on again. Same with some other clothes I've been keeping. The clogs are long gone though and won't be coming back apart from the Croc styke that I wear for gardening.
oh no not clogs,.never had them, never will, lol..yes, keep it simple, couple colours or monochromatic always looks chic.. thanks for another interesting well done video!
Oh, I really like the wide leg jeans on you - you look so tall! I'm 5'2 and I struggle with wide leg jeans but they look cute on everyone else!!! The camel blazer is awesome. I do not have one - I may find one at a reasonable price - Thank you for the tips
I really enjoy watching and learning. My husband wishes there was a man he could learn about clothes and styles. Is there some channel you would suggest for guys?
I'm so sad that skinny jeans are out now. I struggled to find jeans that fit my body type for years. I don't wear "jeggings" but I love the look and feel of my high rise slim fitting jeans. Is there a way to continue wearing them without looking out of style?
I saved my skinny jeans to wear with tunic length shirts and sweaters and tall boots. That look will never go out of style. Can wear a long cardigan or trench coat over the tunic or if it's more flattering to your body type could wear a cropped Blazer or Denim jacket
I watched another style video the other day who made the comment that skinny jeans aren't really out because all the retailers are still carrying a bunch. I know that I thought that myself - if they are so out why are they still on all the sites and not just one or two pairs? I think it is such a mish mosh right now that you can basically get away with anything. I have bought some of the trendier jeans and they are ok. I chose to wear a pair of skinnies the other day and felt great. I wore them with a feminine tank, a blazer and a pair of espadrille sandals. My husband complimented my outfit. I am going to keep them in my rotation. 🙂
Skinny jeans are a classic so may not be trendy but are definitely not out of style. They’ve been around for over 10 years. They are a basic now according to most stylists. If they are the cut you like best, then still wear them! If you want something a bit less tight you can size up on a skinny so it’s not so tight.
It seems like I always get rid of things just before they come back in style. 😕 I just got ride of some brown bootie and I’m seeing there back in style. Oh well, if I find a pair I really like at a decent price maybe I will buy. Blessings to you all. Have a great day!
It makes all the difference if you elevate your style even to just go to the grocery store. I really think people treat you differently when you do.
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts. 🥰
I agree 100%. Just little touches make a difference.

Wonderful! Thanks so much for watching. 😊
oh no not clogs,.never had them, never will, lol..yes, keep it simple, couple colours or monochromatic always looks chic.. thanks for another interesting well done video!

Oh, I really like the wide leg jeans on you - you look so tall! I'm 5'2 and I struggle with wide leg jeans but they look cute on everyone else!!! The camel blazer is awesome. I do not have one - I may find one at a reasonable price - Thank you for the tips
I love wearing my camel blazer. Such a nice classic. 🙂

Kay this was a fantastic video on budget friendly fashion for the Fall. Would you ever do a video on great fashion finds from Thrift stores?
I can look into it. I’m not a great thrift shopper myself. 😉
I really enjoy watching and learning. My husband wishes there was a man he could learn about clothes and styles. Is there some channel you would suggest for guys?
Thank you. I’m sorry to say I really don’t know of a man to recommend.

@@pappyone6062 I completely agree!
Great video, Kay! Thanks for all of the good tips!
You’re so welcome. 😉
Thank you. This video is so helpful.
injoyed the tips friend connie
It seems like I always get rid of things just before they come back in style. 😕 I just got ride of some brown bootie and I’m seeing there back in style. Oh well, if I find a pair I really like at a decent price maybe I will buy. Blessings to you all. Have a great day!
Me, too! I just discovered I didn’t keep all that tortoiseshell jewelry after all. 😉
