Hi Kay. I found your channel about a month ago, and I wanted to let you know what an impact you've had on my life. That sounds crazy, I know it's only clothes, but I will tell you why. I have struggled with anxiety/depression my whole life. During the pandemic, I was in a very bad place. I spent the day in my PJs, or a sweat suit, and rarely went out. I never answered the doorbell, I hid away from everybody. There didn't seem to be any reason to get up in the morning. I am a retired nurse (hence I wore uniforms to work) but I have always loved clothes, style and fashion (and shopping, of course). But style never came naturally to me, and I have often been guilty of: buying cheap clothes, buying too big to try to hide my apple shape, wearing trends that didn't suit me, etc. Your videos have taught me so much about my body shape and proportions and how important it is to make an effort. That is what I am doing now. I dusted off all of my jewelry (that I haven't worn in years) and am choosing clothes from my closet that make me feel good about myself. I am currently on a diet ( my weight has been up and down since menopause) and once I reach a goal I am comfortable with, I have promised myself to buy quality clothes that last longer, and no more impulse buying. Thank you for what you do, it makes a difference. Now I get up in the morning to face my day, even if it's just a day at home, and I put on earrings and put thought into what I wear. My husband has definitely noticed, too! This is adding joy to my life, which I didn't realize how much I needed. I hope my story will inspire other women to do the same. A side note: I was babysitting my two year old granddaughter yesterday, and she saw my earrings and spent several minutes touching them, and oohing and aahing over them. I feel everything you just wrote...had gained weight, happily married but not working outside my home anymore.. realized I had started hating the way I looked...got on a better food plan, and as I'm losing bought new make up and skin care...found a few things I like and accessorized...feeling so much better about myself. I think she mentions the locations so that if somebody likes that particular piece they know where to find it. I get a lot of good tips and tricks that are applicable no matter where I shop. 😊
When I first started viewing Dressed for My Day, I had the same thought with respect to my budget! I kept watching because Kay is so pleasant and easy to listen to. Eventually I realized that the companies she represents make it possible for her to offer such high quality videos, so I started looking around for options, and I have found them! Even thrift store finds that have been NWT! While I can’t speak for all the companies, I can say that Talbot’s has fantastic online sales and occasionally has reduced shipping costs, so I would not rule out the higher end merchants simply because they aren’t in your regular shopping.
I loved this format with ideas for different activities. Other possible events- a day at an art museum, hiking with friends, or attending an adult non credit class at a local college. Thanks for your inspiration.
Kay, this format is genius, because we always say " What do I wear for....." It's this kind of practical everyday advice that is so helpful and really speaks to me now because we can all come up with these kind of outfits right out of our closets, without purchasing something new. I have vowed to be more mindful about purchases and contributing to the landfill, and this helps us to see the best kind of clothing purchases that we really need for our daily life and work with things we have. I would love to see more outdoorsy (we get dirty & have critters) things, outfits that work for different body types - especially petites, because the proportions really are different! And thank you for all you do and your sweet encouragement, I really appreciate you!

Great video Kay! Don't forget in your list of over-50 "lifestyles", there are still some of us that are stay at home moms!! I still have 6 kids at home, some in college, some homeschooling, one with special needs. I rarely get movie or lunch dates...but I still enjoy dressing nicely even if it's just to the grocery store!
LOVED this format! Given that those of us over 50 tend to have more doctor appointments perhaps outfits for various types of appointments. I know I try to wear something that I can get in and out of quickly and a 2-piece outfit for a mammogram. And some tests, like a DEXA scan, have restrictions in the type of clothing you can wear (no metal).
I wear short sleeves because the biggest thing I have to worry about is when they take my blood pressure. If I wear long sleeves, they make me take my arm out of my top first. They won't put the cuff on over the material.
Kay, I love the format! It is practical and shows great ideas for both work and play. I am semiretired so have a nice mixture. Our area includes venues that are more dressy and those that are more relaxed. Please continue to include travel ideas as well. For the first time, we live in an area that enjoys four equal seasons. Great format - love the ideas you shared. I think any woman would have most of the pieces to create these looks in her closet. As we move into the winter/holidays, I would love to see some dressier options for Thanksgiving, both as hostess and guest. This year we are having a Friendsgiving with sweet friends at their house. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, Christmas dinner looks, etc. November, December and the first half of January are hectic enough without wondering “what am I going to wear?”
I love this video. You covered the things that I do in my life. I go out for the day with my daughters, go to Bible study, go to my brothers grandkids ball games because my granddaughter is all grown up. She’s 24. Another thing that I’m doing too much of lately is going to funerals. Occasionally I will go to Houston to a ballet or a concert. I live about 60 miles south of Houston. I go to water aerobics every morning. I love seeing these things that you have put together. shoes always seem to be my big problem because I have to have comfortable shoes and sometimes they’re not very attractive. Love in Christ.
I am recently enjoying being more thoughtful in putting my workout outfit together when I go for a walk, to the gym, or to Orange Theory. I have added a few new sneakers to my collections, and then I match the top, sports bar, and tights together. It has been a game-changer.
I have just made a promise to myself to wear a different outfit everyday, instead of keeping things for occasions that are never going to happen. I tossed out anything that was really sketchy and that I wouldn't be proud to be seen in, and will make a conscious effort to put the things I have together in different ways. I like to be really comfortable at home, so will often change when I come back from an outing, but will definitely make sure the things I wear around the house are things that reflect the person I am. I don't have anywhere special to go, but decided that even to go to the grocery store, I should put my best self forward.
Yes! I like this format. Much of what I do is outdoors in New England, including hiking. A few “meeting clients”(real estate) outfits would be appreciated. I’m tall and long-bodied. Typical length tops are not working for me and Jjill doesn’t sell much which is structured. Thx
I like this format very much, and agree with another responder that seeing you dress women with different body shapes (and lifestyles) would be both interesting and very helpful. Especially by using more budget friendly pieces. Perhaps you could do a series creating outfits using clothing from Target, Walmart, and possibly even thrift stores. BTW: I loved that you were able to find blue shoes that matched your dress. They really elevated that outfit! Looking forward to the video about dresses. :-)

The only thing is, I cannot afford to outfit my wardrobe from Nordstrom and the stores that you shop at. I am a bit chunkier and need ideas for what to wear with a tummy. I can't really tuck the front of anything in and I can't wear a belt as I've had several surgeries that make that uncomfortable. I love that you are addressing footwear as well. Thanks for the ideas!
Just returned from a week in Lexington, KY. I was so happy to have some cool fall weather so I could experiment with my new blazer! Your Thursday outfit will definitely be my go-to this fall and winter. It worked well for me the whole week: sightseeing, shopping, horse races. I just switched out the shirt (sometimes adding a sweater and/ or scarf) and handbag and was good to go. I loved this format and thanks for all your tips!
I love this format-it’s full of useful ideas that I can pull from my own wardrobe. I really liked the white jacket at the end-so flattering on you. One idea for future daily outfits: going to a grandchild’s school winter music program, or a church Christmas program.

Girl, have you tried a shoe the color of your hair with the Tuesday outfit? I totally agree with you that the knee-high boots are going to look better with the Wednesday outfit. I think trying some the color of your hair would be great in the knee high boots as well. The Thursday outfit was my favorite. I thought you looked the youngest in the Sunday afternoon outfit and you were very cute in the joggers with just the white shirt and no jacket.The joggers are super flattering on you. At 57, I want to dress appropriately (modest) but also want to be stylish and comfortable. I’d love to see your ideas for active wear, for the courts, biking, long power walks etc. in warmer weather. Love the idea of the football game (or any other type of game). Yes, in the South college sports are big and I don't want to wear sweatshirt attire. A designer could make BIG money making SEC-colored fashionable clothing.

I loved this format. This was so fun! I too belong to a small church, but if weather permits I try to wear a dress or skirt from my wardrobe. Think it is fun to dress up for church and makes me feel I have shown up for the event. If weather does not permit I wear some nice slacks, blouse, or blazer. I am retired so I need to wear my clothes since I am not in the work force anymore. Do this format again.

Black Friday shopping is still popular. Comfort plus class when shopping for Christmas. This is a great format … some other instances perhaps casual holiday at home, walking the dog but not looking sloppy, running errands with ease but not looking too “done.”
I love the outfits you modeled for us. I would wear most of them. I don’t wear many dresses. But I do love my joggers and jeans. That’s my daily outfit, now that’s it has cooled down. I can even wear a jacket, in the morning and evening. I love the Johnny collared shirts. I may have to get one of those. They are stylish and comfortable.

Love this format. Very useful. I've just recently lost about 50 pounds and need some new clothes so this was very helpful. I live in a semi rural part of northern California and we are very casual, usually wearing jeans every where, so the elevated casual suggestions are very helpful to me.

I liked this video. I am retired and almost everything I wear is very casual. I mostly wear jeans. When I go out it's usually for Dr. appointments, grocery store or errands, and occasionally out to eat. I like to dress as nice as I can. Maybe you might have more ideas for this casual of dress. I love this format Kay. I struggle with what to wear for various occasions. I would love to know what you might wear to a black tie optional wedding and the casual restaurant rehearsal dinner the night before. Casual to me means jeans but every rehearsal dinner I’ve ever attended has been dressier than that and I’m stuck. I enjoy your videos very much !
Agree ! So many folks don't know the guidelines for black tie / black tie optional , formal / semi-formal , weddings ( based on time & location ) , rehearsal dinners & funerals / visitations , etc. It seems if jeans or athleisure wear isn't appropriate , they're lost ! This is not just younger people , but " older " adults too who never were taught dressing correctly for an occasion & often proper etiquette as well .

Could you also do a video taking a simple silk dress (i'm thinking of the Lilysilk wrap skirt/button front dress, for example) and styling it for different seasons as well as dress up & dress down. Thank you for sharing these combinations, I literally paused the video to check my closet to see if I could recreate the brown ponte blazer with the printed blouse. I have a black ponte blazer that would work. I also love outfits that are for days at home but…you might need to get out to get the mail, or run to the store, or a quick Target run. So I have been on the hunt for just one more of these outfits to add to my collection. I buy matching sets of these type looks, I have one from Chico’s and one from the Gap. Wear leggings and a simple throw over sweater or loose blouse…we don’t need to dress up for these kind of appointments.

Kay, I love this format - you did a great job showing things you’d actually wear. You might add a basketball game? The only thing is, I cannot afford to outfit my wardrobe from Nordstrom and the stores that you shop at. I know the old saying “you get what you pay for” but as a retiree I just can’t afford to pay high prices. Could you may e do a segment on things from less expensive stores? I love listening to you and your sweet spirit shines through. ❤️

I am a bit chunkier and need ideas for what to wear with a tummy. I can't really tuck the front of anything in and I can't wear a belt as I've had several surgeries that make that uncomfortable. I love that you are addressing footwear as well. Thanks for the ideas!

Just returned from a week in Lexington, KY. I was so happy to have some cool fall weather so I could experiment with my new blazer! Your Thursday outfit will definitely be my go-to this fall and winter. It worked well for me the whole week: sightseeing, shopping, horse races. I just switched out the shirt (sometimes adding a sweater and/ or scarf) and handbag and was good to go. I loved this format and thanks for all your tips!

Girl, have you tried a shoe the color of your hair with the Tuesday outfit? I totally agree with you that the knee-high boots are going to look better with the Wednesday outfit. I think trying some the color of your hair would be great in the knee high boots as well. The Thursday outfit was my favorite. I thought you looked the youngest in the Sunday afternoon outfit and you were very cute in the joggers with just the white shirt and no jacket.The joggers are super flattering on you. I did like this format. The joy of the Lord exudes out of you and I always love watching you! You are a blessing!

At 57, I want to dress appropriately (modest) but also want to be stylish and comfortable. I’d love to see your ideas for active wear, for the courts, biking, long power walks etc. in warmer weather. Love the idea of the football game (or any other type of game). Yes, in the South college sports are big and I don't want to wear sweatshirt attire. A designer could make BIG money making SEC-colored fashionable clothing.

I loved this format. This was so fun! I too belong to a small church, but if weather permits I try to wear a dress or skirt from my wardrobe. Think it is fun to dress up for church and makes me feel I have shown up for the event. If weather does not permit I wear some nice slacks, blouse, or blazer. I am retired so I need to wear my clothes since I am not in the work force anymore. Do this format again.

This is a great format … some other instances perhaps casual holiday at home, walking the dog but not looking sloppy, running errands with ease but not looking too “done.”
I love the outfits you modeled for us. I would wear most of them. I don’t wear many dresses. But I do love my joggers and jeans. That’s my daily outfit, now that’s it has cooled down. I can even wear a jacket, in the morning and evening. I love the Johnny collared shirts. I may have to get one of those. They are stylish and comfortable.

Love this format. Very useful. I've just recently lost about 50 pounds and need some new clothes so this was very helpful. I live in a semi rural part of northern California and we are very casual, usually wearing jeans every where, so the elevated casual suggestions are very helpful to me.

I love this format Kay. I struggle with what to wear for various occasions. I would love to know what you might wear to a black tie optional wedding and the casual restaurant rehearsal dinner the night before. Casual to me means jeans but every rehearsal dinner I’ve ever attended has been dressier than that and I’m stuck. I enjoy your videos very much !
Agree ! So many folks don't know the guidelines for black tie / black tie optional , formal / semi-formal , weddings ( based on time & location ) , rehearsal dinners & funerals / visitations , etc. It seems if jeans or athleisure wear isn't appropriate , they're lost ! This is not just younger people , but " older " adults too who never were taught dressing correctly for an occasion & often proper etiquette as well .

Could you also do a video taking a simple silk dress (i'm thinking of the Lilysilk wrap skirt/button front dress, for example) and styling it for different seasons as well as dress up & dress down. I feel as I get only I need fewer dresses but want ones i can wear many ways to get a good cost per wear from a quality piece. Thx

Thank you for sharing these combinations, I literally paused the video to check my closet to see if I could recreate the brown ponte blazer with the printed blouse. I have a black ponte blazer that would work. I also love outfits that are for days at home but…you might need to get out to get the mail, or run to the store, or a quick Target run. So I have been on the hunt for just one more of these outfits to add to my collection. I buy matching sets of these type looks, I have one from Chico’s and one from the Gap.
