    So. Many. Seventh chords.
Welcome to an instrumental cover of The Caretaker's Everywhere at the End of Time - Stage 1. Each of the loops is played through once (except for A3, which I felt especially inspired to riff on a second time). And yes, it's all tempo-synced.
    A1 - It's just a burning memory 00:00
    A2 - We don't have many days 00:56
    A3 - Late afternoon drifting 01:18
    A4 - Childishly fresh eyes 01:59
    A5 - Slightly bewildered 03:07
A6 - Things that are beautiful and transient 03:29
B1 - All that follows is true 04:58
    B2 - An autumnal equinox 05:23
    B3 - Quiet internal rebellions 05:35
B4 - The loves of my entire life 06:29
    B5 - Into each others eyes 06:55
B6 - My heart will stop in joy 08:26

I like how the notes are pressed harder and harder as the medley goes on, as if the pianist is getting frustrated when they try to remember.

That's a great way of putting it, even if that wasn't how I was thinking. Generally speaking, I tried to match the volume to their corresponding original tracks (e.g. quietness of An autumn equinox vs loudness of Things that are beautiful and transient), and it just so happens that B6 is just bombastic and really ends on a flashy note.
What I DID do, however, and no one's pointed it out yet, is gradually increase the reverb/audio space, so it feels like the room is getting bigger, and the music is getting further and further away. This is much easier to hear if you skip back and forth on the video quickly.

I've been listening to 30s and 40s music since 2017 and I never knew music 30s and 40s music would so depressing till I know bumped into Caretaker. As a person with dyslexia and memory problems, Caretaker somehow seems a little accurate to me. Especially the music looping. I have to think things over and over to remember things and expand memory in order to know the real context of that memory.

  • @FikretX
    @FikretX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +188

Thanks to everyone for the outpouring of support! I treat my covers as both love letters to The Caretaker's wonderful work as well as therapy for them, so all the positive comments and enthusiasm mean a great deal to me. I am someone who fears less the more he understands, so my careful analysis and transcription of these songs is my way of coming to terms with the intense, turbulent emotions and thoughts that have been spurred by Leyland Kirby's albums.
A brief update: I'm already working on Stage 2. Y'all better get ready for reverb and echoes lmao. Those wonky tempos and longer songs are really doing me in at the moment, but the concept is holding up so far - still not sure how exactly how I'm going to handle Stage 4 onwards, once the melody drops off a cliff.
In the meantime, if there's interest, I might end up releasing a "full-length" version of Stage 1, where each loop is extended to the original length of its corresponding song.
Also, I appreciate the requests for various other songs: rest assured that any EATEOT songs will definitely be covered within their respective album. At risk of overpromising and under-delivering, I might end up doing another one of these for the Empty Bliss Beyond This World album (already completed Camaraderie At Arms Length since I like the song so much, maybe I should pre-release that as a teaser? :P)

Each track is summarized in a drawing or in a bundle of consecutive drawings. After I completed the ambitious project, the experience isn't scary anymore. I wish you luck and wisdom in your deep analyses.

This straight up ended up in my dream last night. I haven't listened to it for a month, so its good to know that this really left a lasting impact.
It's actually really pretty and suprisingly enjoyable to listen to, so I think that helped. Can't wait to hear more!

I like the fact that the music gets slow then to the original speed.

It's like the pianist is struggling to remember the tempo.

This is awesome! I do a sort of similar thing as you do on my channel. But instead of doing it digitally, I learn how to physically play it on the piano. But it usually takes me like a week, or maybe even more, just to play one song. It's so cool that you did this for stage 1, 2, and 3. I bet that took a lot of effort. I also really like what you did and how you arranged the music. It sounds amazing!!!
