Given that the Angels probably are descendants from the people of Mu that built the tunnel it makes sense that they can't handle sunlight, have no emotion and generally feel very little. Them having built the tunnel for years underground has changed them.
My memory isn't perfect, but if Lily is given the necklace he makes it from pretty stones he finds on the way, and later the necklace gets broken and the stone beads actually act as a trail of breadcrumbs leading you to a secret.
I am aware, if you choose a different gift she is given both. If I remember correctly there's a small bonus if you find every bead of the necklace. I intentionally didn't want to go into too much detail since this is an on going series and I didn't want to spoil anyone who hasn't played the game.
@@PhoenixNorthstar Man, and here I thought giving her flowers would be the worst choice because she regularly turns into a flower and thus you'd be bringing her corpses of her own kin. Guess I was overthinking way too much there. Oops.
"You've changed during this journey. Somehou you've grown up. Like... double your height, and your hair went completely blonde, with dark armor and a sword as big as you now".
It's a shame some of the translation is a bit spotty. For example, "Riverson" is a bad transiliteration of the Japanese characters, which spell out "Ribaiyasan". It was meant to be Leviathan.
Yeah the translation does have some issues, mainly with the tenses and third and first person being mixed up, especially with Will’s narration but also Sam saying “I’m sure I won’t need them anymore” after asking you to take some items. There’s also a noticeable issue early on where (if I remember rightly) Will’s dad tells Will about a crystal that creates the dark power, but in Japanese it’s referring to the comet. Riverson doesn’t bother me though, I actually think Riverson is a much more unique name than just Leviathan, but it does explain some of the weirdness with the dialogue where it seems like it’s talking about multiple Riverson’s.
If i remember correctly Riverson is actually a mistranslation from the Japanese version. The original name for the creature was Leviathan, which makes a lot more sense given the context. I think the japanese team used the romanized version of the Leviathan name in japanese, and the localization team translated it as Riverson.
I ship Lilly and Erik, since they are the closest in age than Lance is.The name "Riverson" is actually a mis-Romanization of the name "Leviathan", taken straight from the Japanese translation.
Glad to know that this fight is hard with Freedan as it is with Will, as for the wires doesn't matter what you cut I cut the red wire and the bomb didn't explode either
It's a good JRPG. It increases in how it grips you overtime since you're learning more about the characters. That's exactly how a JRPG should draw its audience in. Basically, as you play more I want to watch more. I didn't really care for it at the start but after the raft scene the character development really started picking up and now I'm intrigued enough to continue. That's not to say it's amazing, but for a SNES JRPG, this is clearly a great game.
As a kid I always had a crush on Lilly myself so I never liked the Lance/Lilly ship. I was hoping I could meet her and impress her myself. I didn't yet grasp the concept that fictional characters weren't real.
That reminds me of an article I read years ago online about some kid who thought Pokemon were real, and was hyped for his upcoming 10th birthday so he could become a trainer. Except I have to imagine that, unlike him, by that age you knew better.
I thought it is earth as well but it isn't. I looked up a map of this game recently and even though it has locations that exist(ed) in our world the world map is completely different. For Example the Pyramid and the Great Wall are on the same continent in the world of this game. And isn't Neils plane the only one? He invented that thing.
Really, Lilly seems to have better chemistry with Will than with Lance so far. But I guess that's kind of the point... Lance is sad because he's uninteresting and she hasn't noticed him yet. The trouble with flowers is that they only last a few days, and then they're gone and you're sad. At least jewelry lasts for a reasonable length of time. And you can make jewelry yourself just as easily as you can make a bouquet yourself.
I'm binging this, and I just realized that the "body changes" during the spirits' story of the people of Mu reflected the 3 main enemies in the dungeon (slime = water, golem = rock, cloaked teleporty = tall.) Our boy Will *is* a mass murderer!
I mean.. I agree "a sweet kiss" is not how you should show someone you're not dating that you love them, buttttttttt....... VIDEO GAMES! *(smash the "a sweet kiss" option)* - Miss Editor had me dying during that part.
Miss Editor has a good point about the utility of opposable thumbs. They're pretty boss. (Humorous anecdote: it was, in fact, one of the things used to sell a serpentine creature on the whole humanoid thing in an RPG game we're playing, right now. The snake was enchanted by them. She wasn't quite as sold on the whole "legs" thing, but she's trying to figure that out, anyway, as she thinks its fun and silly.)
‘Oh f*** this is the vampire fight’ is exactly the response to have. I was just exchanging Illusion of Gaia war stories with my band mate and both of us had to start the game over because of running out of herbs here. Many years later, I played it again and didn’t even use one herb, I was so amped up to brute force through them. A banner day!
I love thinking about what a re-imagined version of this would look like done in a 3D style with ambitious character re-designs based on original art. Picturing scenes like the group traveling through the underground tunnel in a fully realized cutscene would be incredible. That said, I can't help but imagine Erik would just look like Collin from Twilight Princess - which would instantly make me dislike him.
LMAO Projared’s face at 5:23 when he says that Lilly was in Will’s pocket is just priceless. I accidentally paused the video there when I had to answer the phone and only noticed how perfectly timed it was with the phrase.

I've played this. I know I have. And yet I don't remember the vampire fight at all. The trauma of that fight alone should've made me never forget this game.
Well, you've done it, Jared. I've now begun playing Soul Blazer, and I WILL make it through all three of these games! Had forgotten how much fun they are ^^
I think Gaia is the strongest entry, too. But for me, personally, the margin is small enough that the existence of Gaia doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the other two ^^
The whole “The sun is bright! I never noticed before!” thing sounds really stupid but it’s probably meant to be him saying that after so long in the tunnel the sun seems super bright, something he’s never noticed before. I wonder if it’s just a translation error.

Good lord. I got this far as a kid I died and guess what I forgot to save and was back the town where you find the laborers. I recently played this again and made certain to save it and finally got past this part. But back then I was so mad I didn’t play this game because of forgetting to save.
I used to own this game. I never got past this boss. Losing all your lives and doing everything over again was just to frustrating. Haven't touched this game in like 10 years.
Either wire works. And if you kill the vampires but don't touch the bomb... The bomb's a dud. Not so much if they're alive and the timer hits zero. If that happens, d'oh! Sucks to be you, huh?
I've always loved the fact there's a wire to cut on a cartoon cannonball bomb with a fuse.

Notice how Lily pointed out that Will has grown AFTER she has been in his pocket.
It's a shame some of the translation is a bit spotty. For example, "Riverson" is a bad transiliteration of the Japanese characters, which spell out "Ribaiyasan". It was meant to be Leviathan.
That makes a lot more sense for a game with a lot of judeo-christian motives.
In French version of the game I remember this creature being called "A big Fish" no mention of any Leviathan or Moby Dick...
Somebody pointed this out in earlier videos and Jared responded, but I guess he played this game in one really long sitting. 😂
Yeah the translation does have some issues, mainly with the tenses and third and first person being mixed up, especially with Will’s narration but also Sam saying “I’m sure I won’t need them anymore” after asking you to take some items. Jared did some serious Proclaiming this episode.
If i remember correctly Riverson is actually a mistranslation from the Japanese version. The original name for the creature was Leviathan, which makes a lot more sense given the context. I think the japanese team used the romanized version of the Leviathan name in japanese, and the localization team translated it as Riverson.
SephBK you're right. It was Reviasan. Which is Leviathan, but the translator thought it was Riverson.
I ship Lilly and Erik, since they are the closest in age than Lance is.The name "Riverson" is actually a mis-Romanization of the name "Leviathan", taken straight from the Japanese translation.
yep, it doesn't matter which wire you cut. Just go for the one you like the most.
Plot is pretty good. Surprisingly dark at times though, excellent for the SNES
Glad to know that this fight is hard with Freedan as it is with Will, as for the wires doesn't matter what you cut I cut the red wire and the bomb didn't explode either
"Hello strager. If i go into the sun I DIE!" Strage greeting those angels have.
Anybody that visits them probably is not an enemy given that you have to travel like 1 month underground to them.

You handled those vampires so much better than I tended to. Good job, I think it took me like 2 tries the last time I played
It took me 4 herbs to beat those vampires but i did it as Will like a fool.
FINALLY he used some herbs to prevent himself from dying!
Watching this on the side makes it hard to follow plot, but I appreciate what I can grasp!
would love to see a video hosted by jared and telling about miss editor top ten VG ships of the semester (or of all ime) it would be absolutly cute
I always wondered how the Vampires managed to get a time bomb in an underwater city.
i was more wondering how a time bomb with wires exists when there arent even guns
A magic bomb obviously. =P
Well planes exist, so I have to assume this game takes places somewhere in the 1900s, it is on Earth after all.
I thought it is earth as well but it isn't. I looked up a map of this game recently and even though it has locations that exist(ed) in our world the world map is completely different. For Example the Pyramid and the Great Wall are on the same continent in the world of this game.

The rest of her clothes seem to stay on just fine when she turns into a flower, so I assume a necklace would do the same.
