One thing I absolutely love about Illusion of Gaia: Look at Freedan. He is ALWAYS holding his sword in the right hand. Most games just mirror the left/right sprites, but here, they made the extra work.
It is really cool to see, most games where the character has specific details on one side will have custom sprites (or they will build the sprite out of small 8x8 tiles and mirror as many as possible, just storing unique variations for the specific details.) but there are some that don’t, outrun is a hilarious example because the Ferrari logo is always changing directions.
Wow, so. Much. NOSTALGIA! I love this game so much. I have so many fond memories playing it as a child. Either my brother and I passing the controller back and forth, or my dad showing me tips or things I missed. I wanna play it so badly now!
I remember playing this with my best childhood friend, and I remember it was even more fun because our native language isn't English so we invented a whole different story for the characters. This happened about 20 years ago, thank you for uploading this and bringing me back to the good days, Jared,
My brother and I sort of did that once with Front Mission back when I owned it on the Super Famicom, but we never played it very far so what little we did come up with never evolved into much of anything. It was just to fool around with the dialogue during what little we did play.
Miss Editor's comments are always great, but so far they've been particularly fantastic with this game. Looking forward to more of this series; seeing play games you're really excited about is always a delight.
I mean, having different characters is cool, but this Freedan guy seems to come out of nowhere, with no explanation as to how you play as him, where he comes from, etc... I hope it'll get explained :V
Man, it's been so many years since I played this I'm realizing I've forgotten half of it. Really having a lot of fun rediscovering the little details here.
I'm SUPER glad that you enjoy this game as much as i do. You also have the exact same habit of voicing over and goofing around to prolunge the pleasure that this game brings. I'll need to play this again soon. I've been diagnosed with cancer 3 weeks ago and don't want to miss my chance to do this gem of a game at least once. THANKS ALOT JARED!!!!!!!!!
If I had this game as a kid I actually think it would've been my favourite game, it looks so sick. I hope we're gonna get a full play-through of this, I'm so into it.
Dark powers, psycho dash. Who would have thought that M.Bison started out as a simple adventurous child who liked to play the flute. :P (On that note, though, it's cool to see a game where darkness is the main protagonist's power rather than light. I always felt "Darkness" had been given a bad rep since it's used for evil 99% of the time. lol) I always saw this game around in the rental stores as a kid, but I never actually gave it a try myself. It's nice to see how it actually plays out finally. Thanks for starting this one up Jared! :D
Something you said made me curious if you weren’t aware of something. If your red jewels are clogging up your inventory, equip and use them, they go to Jeweler Gem even if you’re nowhere near him. Just gotta remember to talk to him when you go back to town for those sweet loots.
Damn the soundtrack brings back the memories, this games known as Illusion of time where i'm from and as a kid i was playing it all wrong :D brilliant game though looking forward to this series!
I do love this game and the Itory theme was always a favorite of mine, as well as the one heard near the end of the game atop . As for inventory, I recall the Red Jewels being able to be sent to him from the inventory so less worry of it becoming full.
Loving this play through so far. My wife got me this game for Christmas a couple years back and I was blown away by the fact I had missed out on such a great game for so many years. Keep it up Jared!
Just had the biggest laugh I had in a long time from a perfectly timed Ad. It was an Ad with rock music and the reason it’s timing was so perfect is right before it played Will was about to play his flute at the village.
Freedan is awesome, though for some reason, I was misremembering his name as Fredan. That might have just been an online moniker I've used in the past.
I recall watching my brother play this. Literally all I remembered was him changing into Freedan, I always called him Fabio and we had a good time. I don't think he got real far in the game, can't wait to see more.
This is a game from my childhood as well. Loved it. Some of my favourite levels: Inca Ruins, Sky Kingdom, Ankor Wat and Great Wall. Least favourite has to be the level with the angels.
Just have to say that I let out a squeal of joy when I saw this pop up! This is one of my faaavvoorrrite SNES games and no one ever knows about it! Can't wait to see the full playthrough! ❤❤❤👍
Looking forward to continue strolling down this particular lane of memory with ya, Jared. There's a number of moments I remember quite clearly, but I feel like probably plenty of details I'll have forgotten over the years; will be glad for the refresher on those. And there's so many great moments, ooooh I can't waaaaaaaait~
I mentioned it as a comment on the last video, but I am going to mention the music again. The composer is Yasuhiro Kawasaki, and as far as I can tell, he only has a few known games to his name. The highlights include this, some Mahjong games, a video board game sort of like Life/Monoply, and the sound effects for SimTower.
I love that you're playing this game, jared. This is also one of my favorite games. I play it at least once a year. And also Miss Editor good job with your interaction with Jared in the game. So much fun to see.
I remember an old friend of mine told me about this game and how she loved it, too. I had to come ask her for help on it every so often because I would get stuck and she knew the whole game. Then my save file somehow got lost and without her around anymore, I never came back to the game. As a result, this is pretty cool to see somebody playing through the whole game. I'm interested in seeing it.
I love how the editor is getting into the game. Also, while I was certainly old enough to play this game when it was new, I somehow never got around to it until 3 years ago. Just suddenly had the urge to play it and I beat it rather quickly. Immediately kicked myself for not playing this game when it was new. This game becomes quite a trip. Buckle up!
Yak is yummy. I always have the sourdough yak at Yak in the Box. Freedan is so cool he even strikes heroic poses when gathering the gems of defeated enemies. He's the Lord Flashheart of IoG. Really loving the artistry that went into this!
8:39 Don't feel bad Miss Editor :) The good thing about games is, no matter when you hear about them you can always go and play them (unless it's some online only BS or a MMO which has been discontinued).
Soul Blazer was always my favorite, but this one is a close second. Old school SNES RPG's were so damn good. Anyone else remember Robotrek? Wasn't that by Natsume? It was a game where your party consisted entirely of robots that you built yourself and you could outfit them with different weapons.
This game was never able to keep my attention much past this point. I'm not really sure why because I do honestly think it's a good game. I'm glad to see you play through it, it means I can actually see it all the way through.
Another game I know where the hero's element is darkness is Mana Khemia, and RPG for the PS2. Every party member in the game has their own innate attribute, and I always found it neat that they gave the main hero Darkness instead of Light, with Light I believe being given to somebody else in the party.
One thing I absolutely love about Illusion of Gaia:
Look at Freedan. He is ALWAYS holding his sword in the right hand. Most games just mirror the left/right sprites, but here, they made the extra work.
Nurse Valentine Gotta appreciate when games put in that extra effort for the little details. ;)
Gee, an epic RPG about a small boy with psychic powers collecting melodies.
I've never heard that one before...
So, you beat the shit out of enemies, and afterwards, with your bloody flute touching your lips, you sing a calming song?
...Nice!
I think the best thing about this LP is how excited Mrs. Editor gets when all the new stuff happens XD
i have to agree!
This aged like cheese.
I think Grandpa Bill might have some issues, designing this crazy dungeon.
Just remembered a certain future move you get in this game and it's almost as ridiculous as Chewbacca's slide in Super Star Wars! Can't wait!
It's a scientific fact capes in fantasy games make you 305% more badass. Lol.
Seriously, can we, as modern men, collectively agree to bring back capes in daily clothing?
It's time.
Wow, so. Much. NOSTALGIA! I love this game so much. I have so many fond memories playing it as a child. Either my brother and I passing the controller back and forth, or my dad showing me tips or things I missed. I wanna play it so badly now!
Abigayle Morris go to emulater-zone.com download snes9x or zsnes and emuparadise.com
Emuparadise has since removed all their roms. You'll have to look elsewhere.
This game is a big part of my childhood that was buried for some reason, thank you so much for playing it Jared!
I lost it when Ms. Editor added the pink ribbon to the flying spore.
You've found a large, yummy, roast leg of yak! My favorite!
The description of Psycho Dash made me imagine a small child bursting through the wall like the Kool-Aid man.
The music of this game is so good. I really love the World Map theme. It evokes such a sense of wonder and wanderlust. God I love this game so much
The cape! Man, I forgot how much I also liked cape running with Freedan. Him and Batman made me love capes.
Loving it so far.
One other thing I like about Freedan. His character sprite is not mirrored when walking left and right.
So her name is Lilly, and she's a flower spirit that transforms into a dandelion....
Good moves, Quintent, good move.
One small detail I really appreciate about this game is THE HUGE SCREAMING FACE! that appears each time an enemy explodes!
I loved the small bow edit that miss editor did on the floating fluff haha
Will's just a really hardcore Jethro Tull fan with that flute. Yeeeahhhhh aqualung!!
Alan Rizkallah Nah, yeeeahhhhh Thick as a Brick
OH FATHER HIGH IN HEAVEN! SMILE DOWN UPON YOUR SOOOOOON! YEAH!
Its been over 20 years since I've played this, I'm loving this series.
I love this game so much. The sounds, music and theme affect me on a deep level. I get all the feels.
I actually feel rlly good watching his cape billow... its therapeutic in a way
I remember playing this with my best childhood friend, and I remember it was even more fun because our native language isn't English so we invented a whole different story for the characters. Illusion of Gaia was such a pretty game :O
With awesome music. I learned to play Lola's Melody and the Wind Melody on the flute item in Guild Wars 2.
Think they lifted the sounds effects straight out of SoulBlazer... Love it.
Miss Editor's comments are always great, but so far they've been particularly fantastic with this game. Looking forward to more of this series; seeing play games you're really excited about is always a delight.

Man, it's been so many years since I played this I'm realizing I've forgotten half of it. Really having a lot of fun rediscovering the little details here.
Yup, after all of these years, this dungeon music still hypes me up!
7:50 I thought it said 'Will GRACIOUSLY loses consciousness'. How kind of him to accept it and black out.
If I had this game as a kid I actually think it would've been my favourite game, it looks so sick. I hope we're gonna get a full play-through of this, I'm so into it.
Dark powers, psycho dash. 20:50 The mystic force that makes Will's hair blow majestically in the wind ignores everyone else.
Will: *enters Itory Village*
HCBailly: "Yay! Happy music!"
+100 Points of Respect to Miss Editor from me for also being a Flute player.
Damn the soundtrack brings back the memories, this games known as Illusion of time where i'm from and as a kid i was playing it all wrong :D brilliant game though looking forward to this series!
Jared, Thank you. Thank you for everything you've done for us. I am truly thankful for everyday now... BECAUSE RUNNING WITH CAPES IS RAD AS HELL!
I do love this game and the Itory theme was always a favorite of mine, as well as the one heard near the end of the game atop . As for inventory, I recall the Red Jewels being able to be sent to him from the inventory so less worry of it becoming full.
If you USE the red jewels, they just fly to Gem, so you don't even need to drop them off.
Vundoqweep that's very handy and quality of life-y for a game from back then. I'm impressed... You do have to go get the bonus in person, don't you?
Yep. Got to talk to him for that.
Yes but the rabbits have melted all the chocolate they could find.
Loving this play through so far. My wife got me this game for Christmas a couple years back and I was blown away by the fact I had missed out on such a great game for so many years. Keep it up Jared!
And thus the origin of M.Bison. Will grows up learning Psycho powers and created Shadowloo
I adore this childhood classic. And Gaia's face also creeped me out as a child.
I love it when people say "Oh why haven't i heard of this game?" I rented it so damn much when i was a kid.
I demand that ProJared is saying: "I am Freedan" in the same way Batman would. By the way, it takes serious Skill to die in this Game. Well Done :D
One thing I wish they had done this game is that Will's telekinesis could both push and pull. Still, one of the best games of all time.
I am so into this series right now. I checked my TH-cam app all day waiting for the upload.
Freedan, the dark knight! I loved this game as a kid, so glad to see it getting some love!
I seriously have a lot of fond memories playing this as a kid, I remember sitting down one summer and playing it straight through
Just had the biggest laugh I had in a long time from a perfectly timed Ad. It was an Ad with rock music and the reason it’s timing was so perfect is right before it played Will was about to play his flute at the village.
I'm glad to see that while Will is going through a crisis he can always count on his friends to be at their hang out spot playing magic the gathering!
Mu was pain.
Freedan... Have you ever thought about putting on a suit of armour and being really good at Jumping? I dunno, you got the voice for it
Lars Cordewener He should get himself a crowbar
Just have to say that I let out a squeal of joy when I saw this pop up! This is one of my faaavvoorrrite SNES games and no one ever knows about it! Can't wait to see the full playthrough! ❤❤❤👍
It's so nice seeing you play a game you're genuinely excited about! It's always more fun when youre having fun :)
As someone who wears a cape to my states renaissance festival. I must agree. Running with capes feels AMAZING
Jared! You forgot to move the stone head in the cave!
What happens if you do so? Can't remember
The head moves.
Didn't he do it in episode 1?
Princess Luna unforgivable for anyone who truely has mastered this game. For shame, especially when you know he has missed something.
I looooved this game when I was a kid. But I don't remember much of it now, so I'm glad Jared is playing it.
So happy you're doing this LP! One of my favorite games of all time. A true master piece!
I fucking love that you play classic games, it sets you apart from everyone else
I love that you're playing this game, jared. This is also one of my favorite games. I play it at least once a year. And also Miss Editor good job with your interaction with Jared in the game. So much fun to see.

Man I just like watching you play games from your childhood.
Well done Jared Skywalker, "you've taken your first step into a larger world."
Jesus that soundtrack is even better than I remember. Quartet could sure put together a damn video game.
That A New Hope reference was great.
Was half expecting to find a couple smoldering corpses when they got back to Will's house.
THE E Man
Spoiler for tales of phantasia
That happens so I was too
i can't wait to watch the rest of the LP
I love how the editor is getting into the game.
Also, while I was certainly old enough to play this game when it was new, I somehow never got around to it until 3 years ago. Just suddenly had the urge to play it and I beat it rather quickly. Immediately kicked myself for not playing this game when it was new. This game becomes quite a trip. Buckle up!
Yissss, oh I love your narration! And you are making this great game even better. I will stay tuned to this one nonstop!
Miss Editor just keeps getting better!
Loving the series so far, Jared! Can't wait for more!
Omg, I played this game like, once at a friend's house in third grade. I've been trying to remember what game it was to find it again. Thanks, Jared!
ohh yes Jared keep it coming dude 👊
I love this game and also love your enjoyment of this game and also love to see Ms. Editor's reactions to this game.
Im loving every minute of this, i freaking love illusion of gaia
Yak was the greatest reveal in the game.
Thank you for playing one of my favorite games of all time.
Yes Jared and RPGs are the best! Can't wait until his next nuzloke either!
Really enjoying this game! First I've heard of it 😁 especially enjoying Jared and Ms Editor's excitement over it. Can't wait for the next episode!
I feel like such a badass knight with a cape after watching this. Thank you for introducing me to such a great game! I gotta go buy it for myself now.
This playthrough is making me so happy
This game reminds me of so many classics but at the same time it remains unique
I love Mrs.Editor. Such a nice edition to this channel.
Looking forward to what the game and Jared's memories have to offer!
Soul Blazer was always my favorite, but this one is a close second. Old school SNES RPG's were so damn good. Anyone else remember Robotrek? Wasn't that by Natsume? It was a game where your party consisted entirely of robots that you built yourself and you could outfit them with different weapons.
I LOVED this game, as a kid. I really hope you take this game to completion (giggity)
I am loving this play through! I remember this game, its so gooooood.
This game was never able to keep my attention much past this point. I'm not really sure why because I do honestly think it's a good game. I'm glad to see you play through it, it means I can actually see it all the way through.
I am so glad you're playing this!
Hey Jared, Soul Blazer is part 1 of this series. Illusion is part 2 with references of Soul Blazer.
14:30
