THIS video was amazing! Most videos they talk fast and i constantly had to rewind because i was getting information overload. You really slowed things down for me and your teaching skills are amazing! Keep it up Podfather, im a subscriber from now my LISAN AL GAIB! 😂
Wow… THANK YOU SO MUCH… this is very high praise! The fact is that I was not trying to *teach* the game at all. This is an OVERVIEW video, and indicating why “The Podfather Loves… Dune: War for Arrakis”. I am very happy that you got so much out of it. THANKS SO MUCH!
Do you mean “Don’t tell me how good this is, since I’ll have to buy it?”. LOL! Well… ok, I’ll lie to you: The game sucks! :) The video kinda says otherwise… :) For the record, while Dune: Imperium is a quite a good game, it is not thematic. It’s a worker placement game that could have any theme. DUNE: WAR FOR ARRAKIS is *very* thematic. You feel like you are playing out the war, the second part of the movie (that is about to come out).
😂😂😂 I know the pain. I have most of the Dune francize games ever released.. and this one is good! Dune ccg is my number one. Dune war of Arrakis is now second Dune imperium uprising is third Dune board game fourth Dune imperium (original) fift Dune boardgame a game of conquest and diplomacy at sixth. Dune house secrets seventh There is couple of more, but don`t like those as much… So yeah… this one is high on my Dune list!
Thanks for going through this - I had gone through the rule book but had missed a few nuances that you mentioned (eg leaders can be taken as casualties). It’s a nice twist on WotR (also my favourite game…I think). You did a pretty good job of all the weird pronunciations for a non dune-phile :) just missed a few but it doesn’t matter. I’m looking forward to getting a few games under my belt but it’s such a table hog I think I’ll need side tables for the player boards haha
As far as I know, I was not using very much that would not be part of a base package. I think this game is going to be great whether you get the blown out edition, or get the bass game. Thanks for watching!
Just got my copy a couple days ago, still waiting on the playmat. I’d love to see a collectors edition treatment for this game. Or maybe not, don’t want to have to pay for the game twice.
I get ya on all of that. But to make it a very cool addition, just paint all of the minis, and the worms, and it will look amazing. Thanks for your support!
Those ecological stations were from the time before Spice was even discovered. Emperor tried to make Arrakis more hospitable planet, but then Spice was discovered and all those previous plans were abandoned. Water kills those giant sandworms, so it was not good for business 😂
@@PodfatherGaming btw i wanted to ask you but i forgot in my first comment - are those deluxe tokens from the game originally or you bought them somewhere else?
@@iphatbass I have the "all in" edition of the game, which came with more of everything of course, including upgraded metal-like tokens, as well as one of the largest minis (The Old Man of the Desert Sandworm) that has been put into any game ever. :)
I've already played it several times, it's balanced and tense. The expansions are nice too, they add a lot without much rules complexity. @@PodfatherGaming
only played one game with smugglers and two with guild, I probably won't play without them from now on, they are simple and add fun stuff.@@PodfatherGaming
Question for the Spice must flow board: What is the thematic ties to getting more vehicles the less spice you are able to give to the 3 houses? I can imagine less dice because less funding but why more vehicles.
You may have missed the fact that I have ZERO understanding of them thematics in this universe! LMAO! As a game publisher and designer, I will answer this from that perspective: This is for game balance. :)
More vehicles dedicated to the board increase your chances of production, but it’s at the expense of doing anything else. One less die to use for the military since it’s focusing more on getting product. Casting a wider net if you will. But remember the Fremen pay the guild to keep satellites out of orbit. So in a way the Fremen are paying off the guild with the spice the Harkonnen don’t get. This also leads to the Emperor Shaddam IV to get involved. I’ll need to check his card, but I think that’s how he gets into the game because the Harkonnen can’t produce.
Hi Stephen. It's Rafael. I just subscribed! I would recommend you read at least the original Dune book. It's a masterpiece. The rest you can pass on to be honest. I've read 10 Dune books and the original is the one. I'd love to play this (I just played it and freaking loved it) or War of the Ring with you some day (I know the rules by heart) if you are still in Florida. Cheers!
Hey! This was a great game for sure, and of course, has the DNA of WotR. I think I would call it a first cousin of WotR. Maybe we’ll get a chance to play at some point! Thanks for the subscribing to the Podfather of Gaming YT channel!
I think you mean, and correct me if I am wrong, why would a Leader come back once it is “eliminated” in combat? The Leaders for BOTH sides go to the Regeneration Tank (I think that’s the name), and in a couple/few turns are available again for deployment. From what I recall (and as I said I am not an expert in this IP), this is thematically linked to the books. Health/damage in the Dune universe can be reversed via spending time in a Regen Tank.
They might return as a 'Ghola' which is not a regeneration tank as Star Wars make it. It is called an Axolotl tank and that can rebuild a death body from a cell. It is like a clone. The ones with this technnology are from the Bene Tleilax faction.@@PodfatherGaming
it perplexes me as to why people go into this game not having watched Dune.. its one movie.. I get how dont really want to read the books but, cmon man thee movie is right there ! :P
I’ve seen the original 1984 movie at least 6 times, and of course the new Dune: Part 1 movie twice. I am very much looking forward to seeing Dune: Part 2, as part 1 was great. I am simply not a fan of the IP. I am not against it at all. It’s pretty good. I think that if they kept making movies, I’d be more into it, and I’d understand all the characters more deeply. Can’t wait to see PART 2!
@@chadvader974 Sorry if I did not make that clear. I certainly thought that I said that I watched the first movie (several times) and Part 1, and now looking forward to Part 2. Really thought I said that. Regardless, that doesn’t mean that I (or almost anyone that has done this) would know the deep lore of this IP. Things like “What is a SIETCH?” Or “Why are Ecological Testing Stations important?” Or even better “Who are these minor characters?”… none of those types of things come through strongly in any (non-book) incarnation of DUNE. Now, I know Paul Atriedies, of course, and I know the Benne Gezerets (though can’t spell them :)) and Duke Leto and Gurney - they are quite key in both of the movie incarnations, but after that it gets very murky for someone who has not read the books. It’s an excellent IP, no doubt, I just don’t have the wonderful touch points that I have with EVERYTHING Tolkien, which is my dearest love in the realm of fantasy (and Star Trek is my jam in the world of Sci-Fi). Thanks for the conversation!
No, I would not say so, in fact just the opposite. The game is being compared to War of the Ring, as I mentioned a lot in the video. War of the Ring has a LOT of special rules, e.g. how do does a nation get activated and how does a nation go up on the political track, what happens when the Fellowship reaches Mordor, etc etc. HERE in Dune: War for Arrakis, you just have a set of rules that do not change over the course of the game. If one is not used to “complex” war games, then yes, this will be a BIG game, but for a game of it’s size and magnitude, it’s fairly easy to pick up.
