THIS video was amazing! Most videos they talk fast and i constantly had to rewind because i was getting information overload. You really slowed things down for me and your teaching skills are amazing! Keep it up Podfather, im a subscriber from now my LISAN AL GAIB! 😂
Wow… THANK YOU SO MUCH… this is very high praise! The fact is that I was not trying to *teach* the game at all. This is an OVERVIEW video, and indicating why “The Podfather Loves… Dune: War for Arrakis”. I am very happy that you got so much out of it. THANKS SO MUCH! <3
I love that Ignacy put on his designer hat and explained that the game design has to address first player advantage and that isn't achieved with dumb start player selection rules. Thank you Ignacy!
Well, of course! The “start player advantage” is one of the last things that a designer has to deal with. And Ignacy is such an excellent designer. Thanks for watching! <3
Stephen - I hate to disappoint you but nice as drinking beer is, it provides zero immunity to Covid.
Says you! Listen, I’m not a doctor, and if I was a doctor, I am not your doctor, but this is true! 🤣🤣🤣 yes, of course, I know this! I’m having fun with Ignacy and his lack of him imbibing… :-) I hope you did not think I was serious. For the record, for every person on the planet, beer does not affect Covid.
Things murican use to not use metric: TTR boxes 🤣
LOL! Took me a bit to understand what ‘murican’ was… but I got it! Thanks for watching! <3
Great. Just purchased this and now I’m seeing all of the negative comments concerning the production quality. Might have to send it back.
I would look at it myself before making a judgement. Or at least see what others are saying, likely on BoardGameGeek.com. YMMV….
Honestly send it back and seek out an older version. This version really is poor and not worth the gist even at the slightly lower price point. Most people would rather pay the extra for the quality of the previous version
Ignazy and no Podfather - what is the world coming to?
I know… right!
The pessimistic Pole is MIA again I see!
He’s a very busy man, which is good for him and Portal, but bad for Corey and I. It’s ok. We love him and treasure when he can make it. Now… he’s in Essen! <3
As to AI in D&D.. artistry is the application of earned intuitive worth in connection to beauty and grace. People appreciate art (both graphic and designwise) in games because of the sacrifice apparent through it. AI content does not have this effect. For instance, AI created people feel flat and devoid of 'something'. D&D will become less liked because it will not honour the artist sacrifice tradition, is my guess.
Interesting perspective. AI artwork is not there, and definitely lacks. AI used in helping the process of creating a D&D campaign is another story, IMO. That’s where I see it going in a helpful way to me, as a DM.
I got myself a lifelong ban on BGG for commenting this topic. I'm an academic, voracious reader with a philosophical bent. There's been a few occasions, none (none) of them deserved, when I did not advocate for but reflect on the fact that the world is overpopulated and the only true remedy for sustainability issues is a 1 child policy. I stand with that, it's an obvious reality, because there is just too much demand on scarce resources. Young people in the Netherlands literally cannot buy a home anymore because not enough houses are built. Using paper bags instead of plastic is just a cosmetic improvement and does next to nothing for the environment.
And if they don't want 'political' posts on BGG, don't put political podcasts on BGG.
I did not see your posts on BGG, so cannot comment on them and how you engaged. On BGG, it’s about the way you engage, not solely what you say. If you say, “I believe we need a 1 child policy, as we are overpopulated. That’s my stance and opinion”, that’s not going to be an offense.
THIS, however, is nonsense. We are certainly not a political podcast. We report on the news and we give commentary. We take questions from our audience and give expert industry knowledge and opinions. So, here we discussed if the board game hobby is doing its part for sustainability. Did you listen to it, before saying that we are a “political podcast”? I certainly did not, have not, will not take the position that “the board industry is a terrible, wasteful industry”. I’ve essentially said the opposite. So, if you want to make political statements here (“don’t place political podcasts on BGG”), you may want to actually understand what was said. Oh, and I’ll ban you here too, if you continue down this path of just spouting nonsense, and not providing commentary that is constructive and well thought out.
Hey Corey - I have Mord im Arosa sitting on my game table, waiting for you to play.
I have a copy too! A very unique game!
They have taken away the dolphins from this version to reduce production costs making it an weaker version
Agree to disagree. They also lowered the price to make it an even more family-friendly price point. It’s one of the best games at the price now for a family. And it’s beautiful. And it’s just a great game. And if you really want the Dolphins, it’s quite easy to proxy them into the game.
Yeah the poster is biased this version of the game is cheaper in every respect and has been done clearly to make more profit. Just because it currently comes in at a slightly cheaper price point doesn’t take away from the fact is visible cheaper regards production value and quality and has also loss important game elements. Avoid
@@kismo6167 The “poster” is giving you the news of a game release, and the “poster” was not doing a review, and the “poster” sat with a representative of the company and is not going to insult the person. You might want to go look for a REVIEW if you want a REVIEW of the game.
@@PodfatherGaming and I am airing a view that I feel is more then valid and your not wanting to offend someone who works for the company has zero relevance to me. I am airing a view to potential customers so they don’t make the mistake of buying this new inferior version of the game thinking it’s exactly the same under a new coat of paint. Be less sensitive buttercup
@@Greggiexplore Wow… obviously the childishness and wanting to be right all the time runs deep within you. The game is beautiful (artwork, screen printed monsters, etc). I did not review the game for it’s “production quality”, as I literally was there with this new employee of Asmodee for under 5 minutes, and was not going to insult her by nit-picking the production quality of a $30 game, as you are doing. You are not only childish, but you don’t know what you’re talking about, Mr. “I have 20 years experience in gaming and a large collection”. Sir, if you knew anything about the industry, you’d know WHO I AM. I have almost 20 years experience in PUBLISHING board games, and THOUSANDS of games in my collection. Grow up, be more polite to people, and stop acting like an obnoxious child. Oh, and congratulations! You are now the first person to be blocked from commenting in my channel. Good riddance….
Sweet!
Oh yeah! Thanks for watching!
I was one of the playtesters for Runewars Miniatures Game, by FFG, shortly after their breakup with Games Workshop. It was a game that deserved better than it got. If there's a miniatures game that I would like to see resurrected, it's that one-though with a couple fixes and improvements. But the way movement and the command dials worked were wonderful, and gave me a reason to want to use miniatures instead of thinking that just using a hex grid would accomplish the same thing, with less fiddlyness.
Well, you’ll have to play it with me at a convention sometime! <3
It happened again, fellas. The podcast feed says episode 335 but has audio from 334 😊. Glad I have the TH-cam channel as a backup
Hmmm… seems like it is correct from what I see… I’ll ask other as well. But this current 335 seems to be correct on our site, which feeds Spotify, etc…
@@PodfatherGaming it was fixed by the time I finished listening to the TH-cam version. I have PocketCasts set to auto download as soon as they're released so maybe it was just very early. Thank you!

Two weeks running ....
We do love having Ignacy! ❤️❤️❤️
Oh, you should try Mutant Year Zero: Zone Wars as a miniature skirmish game, it came out this summer. Designed by Andy Chambers who has a ton of credits from his time working at Games Workshop. In the base box you get two skirmish teams, 3D cardboard terrain and a game mat. It's easy to play and fun to chuck dice. And you can import your character from the RPG if you so desire. :D A little bit like the Thunderroad Vendetta of the miniature world, not quite as light, but often quite chaotic when a rampaging razorback wrecks the house you're hiding in. :D
Sounds awesome! Play it with me at a con sometime! ❤️
Piglet!!!!!
Where?! lol Piglet is voiced by our buddy Travis Oates, who is a SAG voice actor, director, and producer.
Well there goes my theory that Young Corey and Ignacy hadn’t been seen together because they are the same person.
Hmmm… or, was that Young Corey and an Ignacy impersonator?! He was uncharacteristically, non-Slavicly happy! 🤣🤣🤣
It’s a good thing Corey speaks Canadian and can translate for you Stephen! 😂😂😂
I speak Canadian: “I’m sorry… I’m sorry… I’m sorry…” LMAO!
So, it is interesting that you spoke about shipping as related to crowdfunding. I agree that crowdfunding is not a pre-order and is not a store. You either pay the shipping and get the game, or you don't. Plain and simple. I think you will find these discussions interesting since it applies to this topic. Links in replies below...
I look forward to reading them! Thanks!
Happy Portal-birthday Ignazy

I so had the Eccentric Sponsor card with me at Gen Con for Stephen to sign and totally forgot because he distracted me by playing Marvel Remix 😂
LOL. I’m happy we got to play a game together! <3
I have two gaming tables that each have muted neoprene mats: 4' x 4' and 3' x 4'. I normally buy neoprene mats that either combine multiple game boards on a single mat or provide better organization of the components. I own about two dozen neoprene game mats that are stored rolled up, and each one is stored horizontally on the wall and behind the door of my board game storage room.
If you (a) have the room, and (b) a good storage solution, they are great. I sadly do not have “B”…. :(
LOL. I wanted to say “I do not have A or B”…. And it won’t let me edit the above! :)
Who's that stranger with The Podfather and Cory? 🙂 Welcome back Ignazy! But happy Ignazy? Can we really take the non Slavic viewpoint?

@@PodfatherGaming I did watch the video. I think I'd prefer the CG room. :)
@@petertierney4645 *I* would go scuba with the sharks! That’s just so cool! But to each his own… :)
Goodnight gents
I’m less likely to back something if I miss out on an early bird deal because I feel like I’m closer to paying retail I might as well wait for retail. I don’t like exclusives either - puts a sour taste in my mouth and if I’m a backer I start as -_- I liked the Flamecraft and Dinosaur World kickstarters because everything was made available for backers. I hate Paid Previews and when I see it on channels, it makes me more likely to unsubscribe. Dice Tower is OK because Paid Previews are a small percentage of their output.
I agree on all points about the crowdfunding and exclusives like I said on the show, though I don't mind a paid preview of a game. Seeing a professional presentation of a game is not a turnoff, and helps me decide on if I like the game or not. And look at a channel like Rodney's "Watch It Played". EVERY SINGLE VIDEO is a paid video, and... man, is he GOOD (no, GREAT!!!) at what he does. LOVE RODNEY and his amazing and very helpful videos.
If I go cult of the new then I would say Harmonies. It is a small but pretty game and very easy to teach and understand and doesn’t need a lot of space to play. Going a bit more back then I would opt for the better version of Imperial settlers, being Empires of the North. It is fun, interactive, easy to teach and understand and the artwork is funny.
Sorry, not sure what question you are answering here. LOL! But you are mentioning some good games! :)
Thanks for reading my question and for Corey introducing me to the price ratchet!
You're welcome! "The Price Ratchet!" LOL
Hey guys, this week's podcast feed actually had episode 331, NOT 332 as it's labeled. Can you please look at that?
Looking into it. Thank you!
This has been rectified. Thanks for pointing it out!
On the topic of more promotion of the hobby. How do other hobbies think about it? Are we the only ones who are zealots who want to get everybody into the hobby. I am a big railway modeller (and plastic aircraft) and it does not seem to be a discussion there. Sure they are worried about the influx of young people but not to the extent where whole discussions are being started about getting more people to build a model railway. Same for fishing (yes, I have a lot of hobbies). They never have a discussion about trying to get a major movie picture or series on Netflix to incorporate fishing to promote the hobby. I find the fascination of board gamers to “convert” others interesting. But with more games you probably get more output from board game companies which invariably will impact quality. So be careful what you wish for. And you see already that a lot of people gravitate, even when I am standing in a board game store, to the more party segment of the business. There is a reason why Cards against Humanity is so popular. So more people in the hobby doesn’t mean more players of Wyrmspan or Cubitos or Imperial Miners or Robinson Crusoe. And as far as getting celebrities involved. Don’t know. Cristiano Ronaldo fishes, does that mean more fisher’s. Not really. Henry Cavill is a Warhammer nerd. Does it mean more people playing the game. Not really. There are lots of celebrities with a model railroad at home who also post pictures on FB pages. More influx in the hobby, negligible. I don’t want to be negative, but I don’t think it will have such an impact as people think or it is only very temporary. There was a massive peak a few years ago of young people who wanted to become forensic detectives following the succes of CSI. Did it last? Nope.
The discussion is in general fascinating. IMO, if we do get more “stars” into it, people will look at us like we are less odd, and they might want to try the hobby. But the last part is the point. I don’t care if it’s Cavill or an A-Lister we know. What I want is to invite and entice more and more people into the hobby. More people = more gamers to play with = more inclusivity and diversity = more great games by great publishers. We want that cycle. THANKS for the commentary!
I agree so much with Ignacy. There is such a focus on art and the reality is that at one point AI art will be so good that the job of the artist will likely change from full creator to touch up artist. The same goes for translation. Try Google translate now and you will find that the translation is far from perfect and needs a native speaker to check the translation. That is not not easy and arguably maybe time wise it might not even make much sense as you might not win much time. But AI will get better and soon the translation business might be niche and nobody is fighting their corner. We are all so concerned with the “poor” artists but a lot of the bigger artist do not only make board game art. They do book covers, company art, art for in living rooms, etc. And that might not stop so I am less concerned with artists. But other parts, there might be more job losses. And any board game company not using AI at all is a lie. There will be parts where it is or will be used such as running through probabilities, checking campaigns for inconsistencies, or even for their finances. AI is here, we opened Pandora’s box and trying to fight it is as the famous story of Don Quixote.
I have talked about this on past episodes: My former Art Director and Illustrator, Bill Bricker, has used AI generated art extensively, sees it as a TOOL, but then does much much much touching up and ADDING to the composition. At this point, AI can do SOME of it, but cannot do it all… at least not as good as a human. It’s about SPEED when it comes to AI at this point. Your points are all well-taken. This is going to happen. Let’s figure out the best way, the most moral way, the way that keeps as many illustrators employed way as possible.
Looks like the real Corey is coming back, now that the impersonator has been seen off!
Will the real Corey, please stand up!! :)
I don't want to hear any more attacks against Corey Jr, the long lost son of Corey, his youthful enthusiasm is carrying the show. He'll have to stay young until Ignacy is back. (I bet this plotline has been used in more than one soap opera.)
Hmmm… Maybe you got something here. We can call it “Days of Our Board Games”… LOL!
I used to have "Clue The Great Museum Caper" as a kid. It was neat because one person acts as the robber (invisible on the actual board) and the other people are security guards going around trying to capture the robber. You can set security cameras and other things to help you. I got rid of it as an adult because I didn't think I would ever play it. I now wish I didn't.
I’m going to try to play this soon. I bet they have this in the Dice Tower Library, and Dice Tower Retreat is in just 2 weeks! Thanks for watching!

Your position on Matteo Menapace has cost you a listener.
Sorry to see you go, but my position ("he should have acknowledged the potential for hurt that his statement made"), which I stated clearly on the podcast is the correct position.
Love the unedited content on youtube, used to always check out the podcast on Spotify, only hearing it just makes you miss out on so much stuff
I would venture a guess that some would say “how unprofessional!”, since we (*I*) do not edit the podcast for anything except for a bio break or the like. I am glad you enjoy the simplicity of us doing it like this! <3
Thank you Corey for speaking truth to power about gratis copies and publishers being sore about potentially negative reviews. I think there is cause for some trepidation when influencers or reviewers talk in "I wish the game did this!" rather than just reviewing it on the facts of the mechanics, but that's a different matter. More often than not, even with thousands of new games a year, the majority of them have something fun or interesting to offer and publishers can minimize negative reviews fairly easy. Even Chip Theory, who had to endure the negative SUSD review of Burncycle, now sees that Burncycle is doing well nearly 2 years after its release.
It’s in the category of “all publicity is good publicity”! Thanks for watching!
@@PodfatherGaming Yep, but you have a marketing mind so you understand it -- and we appreciate that. And thanks for having these podcasts. Sealing opened games in plastic is really common in SE Asia. It initially surprised me also, but I quickly learned why. The humidity and rain can damage them easily, so the plastic helps when traveling on a motorbike. The cost for games here is also much higher relative to the average income, so the gamers here take very good care of their games, treating them as the collectables.
Interesting points! Thanks for this! <3

@@PodfatherGaming beginner's luck 🍀 😅
Is it ironic or appropriate that Ignacy isn't here for a Good News episode?
I would say “appropriate” before ironic… LOL! Thanks for being a fan!
I really appreciate your well-reseached and carefully worded neutral approach to news about gaming industry controversies. It builds a sense of trust. I wish you would not have changed this tone by scolding Matteo Menapace. Board gaming has a diverse and global audience and I would say we need more information and less judgment in the hobby.
Giving our opinion is an integral part of what we do. We initially did not have all the information, very specifically, we did not have anything from Mr. Menapace. Once he made his statement, we could give our opinion on the situation. Mr. Menapace did exactly the wrong thing: he basically doubled down. As I said in the episode, all he would have had to do was add “I am not antisemitism, not anti-Israel. I believe in the right of the Jewish people to exist and for the state of Israel to exist.”, and then he could have continued to say how important it is to support the Palestinians, get humanitarian aid into Gaza, end the war, and have a Palestinian State established - all of which of course all of us on this podcast support completely.
Bonkers is fun, Bonkers is nice, Bonkers is never the same game twice.
I will look into it!
Loved the original! :-)
Yeah, fantastic (MEAN!) game!
I'm interested!
Great game!
