Yes, please for solo.Thanks
100% Played solo all my wargaming life due to many different reasons. Always on the look out for other games
Definitely need a solo game or perhaps even 2+ player co-op on tabletop
Heck yeah
I just got 5 leagues from the Borderlands and 5 Parsecs from home as my first step into the hobby. As a 47 year old dad with two toddlers this is my only way to play for a few years so would love your take on solo gaming!
@@AppleMak2010 I would like to know your top 5 solo games.
Yes for solo. Rumbleslam has great starter set.
Rumbleslam is a criminally underrated game!
Rumbleslam is also so much fun. Even my gaming group who aren't into pro wrestling have a fun time with it!
I was going to bring up Rumbleslam myself. It's good to see I'm not the only one who likes it. Also the other TT Combat games have cheap 2 player starter sets. Only the about to be released Dropfleet Commander is just over $100.
Battletech: A Game of Armored Combat. This box set is an amazing deal for the price and gives two or more players enough content to play for years.
Solo and Narrative Co-op games, which can be played solo, are two great categories to review. Getting a game with others is not always possible and the soon to be dark, cold, and snowy months will soon be upon us, which makes it more difficult to find an opponent to play against. In the winter I would rather get my folding 4'x4' table out in the living room in front of the fire with an old movie playing in the background and the cat on the nearby chair as referee. The cat gets its own set of foam dice that I chuck along the floor that she loves to chase.
I recently purchased "When Nightmares Come: An Investigative Wargame of Supernatural Horror (Osprey Wargames)" -- I plan to use some miniatures from some of my board games as proxies for the game. Specifically, Cthulhu Death May Die.
cat dice sounds like and excellent idea. And yes, the cold months can make it harder to get games in across town.
You might like to try out D-Day Paratroopers: Behind the Atlantic Wall on WargameVault. It’s a solo skirmish miniatures game that takes place on the 6th June 1944 and it’s only $5. You play as a US Paratrooper landing in Normandy in the early hours and you have to destroy the guns overlooking Omaha and Utah beaches.
To do that you must link up with more Paratroopers, gather intel on your whereabouts, potentially be able to get to your designated muster point all the while fighting your way through groups of procedurally generated enemy forces.
Utilize the famous Cricket when you detect soldiers. Will the reply with a Cricket of their own, or does it immediately devolve into a firefight there and then? Play a campaign that takes you across Normandy to your Primary Objective while you fight enemy soldiers and their support weapons and vehicles such as staff cars, half-tracks and even tanks.
Roll on random event tables to add variety to your games. You can find friendly paratroopers caught in trees, additional enemy combatants or even have an aircraft come crashing down to earth in a ball of fire.
D-Day Paratroopers: Behind the Atlantic Wall is a miniatures agnostic game and while it is set in World War 2, you could take the rules and use them to fight across an alien planet or behind lines of renegades. The only limit is your imagination. PLUS additional settings will be added.
D-Day Paratroopers: Behind the Atlantic Wall is in it’s ZEROth edition. When you make your purchase, you get to play the game right away and be the first to get an email when a new updated version releases.
Check it out!
Osprey games had become my go to for solo and coop games with my wife frostgrave and stargrave for sure
The Star Wars Legion core sets can be found on a sale pretty easily under $100, they come with 2 skirmish sized armies, 2 character commanders, terrain, all the tokens you'll need, and a rule book
Was gonna say this. It looks like a good deal
When Uncle Atom pulled up the Battletech Alpha Strike, I very much literally screamed in excitement. I love Battletech so much, I really hope more people check out the system.
Hear hear!
Mutant year zero: Zone Wars is an excellent skirmish game, 2 teams of 5 models, rules, battlemap, tokens, rulers and flat pack terrain, and can be found for £45!! The expansion robots and Psionics elevates the experience to 4 players with more terrain and new game modes. well worth a look.
And it is really easy to get started with too without being boring.
2nd this, very fun game, and great value!
3rd'ed - I played a fun 3-person demo of it at Gen Con and immediately ordered both boxes. I hope they release additional sets for it. It's more enjoyably gonzo than other miniatures games I have played recently
The blood & plunder 2 player starter box is such phenomenal value for a really cool game.
Yes!!! The ships are so cool too!
LOL, I scrolled down a ways, did not see this. So also said Blood & Plunder. Then scrolled down one more comment and here it is.
PULP ALLEY is a great little skirmish game with a Starter set that contains 2 Leagues, A Core Rulebook, and all the base cards and dice you need to play.
Just got Blkout starter. It’s $120 but good sculpts and tight ruleset. Heard about it because of my Uncle Adam. You and Ash at GMG are still my favorites. Appreciate your contribution to the community.
Been looking at this game for a while. Looks really cool.
I wanted to mention it, but it was a bit more than $100 and I have talked it up a bit recently here in the channel, so I felt okay not mentioning it here. I just recently got both forces painted and I’m getting terrain together. Thanks for watching!
Yeah those models look sweet as
Would absolutely love to see more content on Solo, I'm exclusively a solo gamer for reasons and would absolutely be interested in hearing more in that vein. thanks again for helping me get back into the hobby.
I second this but my reason is because I'm the only "nerd" that wants to play
The good news is that they're currently beta testing solo rules for Alpha Strike, so that Battletech AS box listed, which does specifically have mechs for two factions in it, will be a great get for solo play when it hits. The current operating name is Battletech Aces, and the experimental rules are in the hands of the Mercenaries Kickstarter backers as I type this.
@@Wgt40 I think I have literally collected four or five different homebrew rulesets to run Warcry solo, always trying to hunt down new or old games with a solo component, I started by dusting off my really old copy of Advanced Heroquest a couple years back which kicked off this rabbit hole 😀
Wargames Atlantic currently has a The Last War set with rules, dice, tokens monsters and four different factions for £70 - Last War is a WW1 themed horror skirmish game using the Forbidden Psalm rules set
Was just about to mention this myself. A great game and Wargames Atlantic's WW1 sprues are superb, but this set includes a weird world war sprue to add opportunities for mutation and other oddness. Amazing stuff.
Very cool, I missed this thanks.
I actually pre-ordered it, but haven’t gotten it yet. Thanks for watching!
it's an awesome update and thing they did!
No Moonstone? That has a 2-player starter for under $100 US. They're just about to release a second starter set containing the other two factions as well.
Agree 100% Great game, superb miniatures.
Uncle Atom probably hasnt it himself.
Moonstone is criminally underrated
A second starter set you say? OK good to know!
@@FoolishHyena it has one of the most beautiful minis, i have seen
I'm a massive advocate for Warhammer Underworlds (it's GW's best game by far), the 2023 starter has two competitive teams out of the box with a lot of potential for growth. It's $63, which is surprisingly cheap for the amount of potential you get.
I'll also add, the game is a lot less "buy everything" since the new rule format. You can buy one or two supplements for $30-45, and it's just a really great game and I want everyone to play it.
Agree, it is a great game, sadly it died off locally here.
100%, I absolutely adore Underworlds and its format!
I've seen Cyberpunk RED: combat zone going for 89. I bought this game because the artwork caught my attention and so far, it is my game of the year. Not only a good starter set, it's the best introduction to war (skirmish) games. I was able to play this game with my son, wife and my friends that are usually not into wargaming and they had fun. My friend even sked me the other day to play again, that's a first! The way it is designed makes it easy to start playing. The only downside for me was that the models quality is not excellent comming from 40k/killteam. And if some people a not into building models, there is a new variation comming: edgerunners that will come with standees and should be even cheaper I guess(hope).
yeah that box looks amazing
@@WhatsUpGazpacho The game is equally great! Highlights recommend.
+1 for Halo Flashpoint! Mantic has a lot of really affordable starter sets for their games!
Most of the starter sets for TTCombat's games should come in under $100 I think. I have the Carnevale starter and the old Dropfleet Commander starter and they're both impressive sets. The also do starter sets for Dropzone Commander, Half Tilt and Rumbleslam.
I was going to post the same thing 😁
Carnevale, which is a great game, actually has to 2 starter sets, one quite a bit cheaper but still has everything to play it 👍
+1 on the TTCombat sets. Carnavale has a very cheap "mini" starter set too, which IIRC retails around £35.
I never played it, but the Carnevale starter set has an incredible value for money!
Just picked up the Rumbleslam set for my son.
@@photonsword oh, I forgot about that one - even though I have some models on my painting desk right now 😅
Highly rate fallout factions! Like Necromunda without the bloated rules. Introduced my friend to it who's never played a wargame in his life and he picked up all the rules in no time flat! Loads of fun!
The Quar character designs are awesome, so well done and full of … well … character :) Would love a video about good solo experience games as well, sometimes the brain and body only needs a couple of beers and a couple of hours of alone-time relaxing with a good game and no human interaction :)
Seconded on the awesomeness of Quar.
@@Bluecho4 They do actually remind me a bit of «Clangers», a british children’s tv show with some weird pink knitted stop motion characters, giv’em a google search, they could be cousins :)
Also worth mentioning, One Page Rules (if you already have a 3D Printer) has a starter pack with two starting armies for free!
Bushido: Risen Sun 2 player starter (2022). It's around $80-90, rulebook, 10 minis, tokens, cards. All models in it are Ronin - can be used in any faction. And yes for solo!
Oh heck yeah! Totally second this recommendation. What a fun, criminally overlooked game.
Please do a solo game video, I love having the option to test tactics through the week before a game night!
I will note this is USD $100 a lot of these are over $130-150 if you're based in Australia.
And yes Uncle Atom, a video on the solo play potential would be good. Lately aside from all of your games I've also been playing Kuroi.
Battletech with all of its starter sets are great.
Relic Blade is so much fun, and Sean is such a nice person.
TTCombat in the UK have 2 Starter sets (Technically a 2 player starter £65 and a 2 player Intro £35) which have minis, rules, tokens, dice, playmat, measuring sticks, 3d cardboard buildings and Parkour and Dagon, plus the 2 sets don't repeat any models but have the same 2 factions so can be used together. They also recently launched Half Tilt, a halfling jousting game with MDF terrain for around £45. I think these qualify for your under $100, depending on how stupid our respective governments get. The minis are all resin. This is the company that also makes Dropzone Commander (10mm sci-fi), Dropfleet Commander (space battles) and Rumbleslam (Fantasy wrestling) all of which I think come in on or around your $100 range.
Would love a rundown of solo wargames. I only really know about Forbidden Psalm, Rangers of the Shadowdeep and your games with Vince

Aliens - Another Glorious Day in the Corps
The Blood and Plunder starter set ( Firelock Games) has been on sale for $99 for a while if you are in to Piratey fun. You even get 2 ~28mm ships!
Yes for solo. Including Demon Ship by (Uncle Atom's friend) Malev 😎👍

From Ground Zero Games for the Full Thrust starship combat game there is the "FT Intro Fleet Double". Two fleets of 8 ships each (you can choose the factions) for around $40.00. The rules for this wonderful game are FREE!
Worth mentioning about the Alpha Strike box: the minis are all usable for Classic BattleTech. Not only that, but two people splitting the Alpha Strike box will each have full armies. Honestly, you could probably split the AS box 3 ways and have playable Classic armies.
Also, 2000 AD is still being published. This week they did a great 2-part arc in 2000 AD and their monthly Megazine and next week (and next month for the Megazine) is the start of an all new run.
Pumped seeing RelicBlade getting more love! 💕
I've been curious about Blood & Plunder for a while now. I recently noticed that Firelock games reduced the price of their 2-player starter set (Blackbeard vs Maynard) to $99. I think I'm going to have to take the plunge...
Hope you have fun with the Alpha Strike box! I really like that CGL is supporting both the classic, crunchier BattleTech and the more streamlined option with Alpha Strike.
I also concur. I would LOVE a look at some solo systems

I LOVE the Alpha Strike "starter" set and i'm floored that you never played the system! I am like you in that i dislike the hexes in Classic BattleTech and i don't care much for the crunch in it. Alpha Strike, while much simpler, is intended to be faster and more "scoped out" than classic. You tend to play with 7-10 models per side as opposed to 4 on 4 in Classic, and you aren't staring at charts upon charts most of the game. in fact, if you memorize the critical hit chart and how to calculate your target numbers, you don't need to really look at any charts while playing!
That being said, i am very interested in that $45 Steel Rift set. That's a great price for a gift, too!
But does it still have GATOR?
@@XanderTuron It has SATOR.
I’ll be honest - I’m not sure I want 7-10 mechs per side. I think four per side would be perfect. I guess we’ll see. Thanks for watching!
@@tabletopminions the game still works great at 4 on 4! I definitely started there when I first played and had a blast. I think the intro scenario in the AS box is a 2v4 and then the second scenario is a 5v8 using all 13 models. However, I think they add too much too fast for someone's second game, and I usually recommend ignoring the formation bonuses they tell you to use.
That being said, once your more comfortable with the rules, your preference for smaller unit count will give you more headroom to add in interesting rules like formation bonuses and special command abilities to add more personality to each uniit.
I like to say that while AS doesn't have much mech customization, you can customize the rules of the game itself instead. You can really tune it to the level of detail that you prefer. While I like to be competitive, the game shines in narrative/campaign play.
Relic Blade is great. And yes for solo
I'm going to put in a shout out for my all time favorite miniatures skirmish game, Pulp Alley. They have a starter set that you should be able to pick up for about $90, which includes 2 leagues of metal figures, full rulebook, dice, counters, cards and more. Such a great, great game...I haven't even looked at another minis game since I discovered Pulp Alley.

Blitzbowl, Moonstone, Rumbleslam, and new Dropfleet starters!
Forbidden psalm the last war from Warlord games. Shipping next week. 85$
Other great games with 2 player start sets under $100 I can recommend are moonstone and eldfall chronicles. Moonstone is a very charming fantasy skirmish game with a very unique combat system. Eldfall is also a fantasy skirmish game that plays a bit like infinity with reactions but with a limit on the number of reactions each model can do. It also has rules for Cooperative and solo modes
Marvel Crisis Protocol's 1.0 release is hovering around $100 right now, and all the updated cards are available for free (if considering playing outside the 2 player experience). It comes with 10 minis and some awesome modern city-scape terrain.
I really wish the expansions were priced as well as the starter box for this one.
@@helotaxi it's great pricing compared to GW games, but yeah. Marvel IP comes at a price
Came here to say this, but it's not even close to $100 now. It's been $60-70 on Amazon for months ($60 right now). The new starter is a bit better but not anywhere near double the price better and the original has enough stuff to play two players.
2 player boxed sets, under $100? Those are the best. The Alpha Strike box is a great value, 2 Inner Sphere lances vs 1 Clan Star. Rules, terrain, cheat sheets, all for $80 MSRP. PLUS the models can be used in Classic Battletech. I look forward to seeing your painted up units. Great video
Yes please some solo wargaming video 👍

Mutant year zero: Zone Wars from free league publishing. 2 different starter boxes each with 2 unique races. $66.62 comes with rules 10 models (including a duck with a crossbow and a leather jacket wearing moose with a baseball bat) cards, token, and dice. The Game also allows for creat a character so you can play model agnostic if you wish.
During the last few years I have had to deal with depression and one of the ways to do so was to return to this abandoned hobby that gave me so much joy in the past. But meeting new players or even playing with my friends is a problem when most of the time I don't have the strength to leave the house! So, yes, that video about solo play games would be great :)
yeah that's tough. It can be hard to be able to get out of the house to get games in because they take SO MUCH energy

Carnevale has a 2 player starter under $100, I've been pretty interested myself but haven't quite decided to buy it...yet.
Not sure if it´s under $100 but Moonstone is a great little game and they have just released a new two-player starter set.
Bonefields! It's a small set coming in at somewhere between like $70-$80 for some very quaint dwarf and goblin skeletons and necromancers and vampires. It's a small ruleset that lets you toss kind of whatever models you want at the game, but it gives you enough to play with right away in the two-player starter. It's a small skirmish game where you go about summoning your Skelly Bois to the field to duke it out, with a little bit of resource management to accommodate summoning or buffing. Perfect kind of game to throw some scatter terrain on a green flock mat and reminisce about the old days. Sold through Hayland Terrain. The models are metal pours that are likely hand-poured, but still great quality. Bonus, it'll give you some fun models for use in Deth Wizards.
Would love to see a video about miniature game where you can play solo

I am pleased to see Quar get some attention. I have watched some play throughs and I hope our friends at Guerilla Miniatures does some play throughs for us too. And two thumbs up for Steel Rift as well.
the mutant year zero starters are great , two different starters each have 2 factions rules, assembled minis and terrain for like 65
I've heard a lot about Mutant Year Zero

I was fully prepared to advocate for Battletech given they have 2 great boxes that meet this criteria - "A Game of Armored Combat" and "Alpha Strike." Very happy to see the Alpha Strike box included as it's an incredible value for a tabletop game. An excellent series to get into!
Novus Malum: first encounters
Also please don't sleep on Mutant Year Zero: Zone Wars.
Heard it was made by the Necromunda guy and you can play as a Duck, man.
Like Quack Quack? ha!

HOLY CRAP THERE IS A DREDD SKIRMISH GAME???
I haven't even watched your video and bringing that to my radar alone is worth a like.
Also, while non-traditional, Heroclix (I consider it a competitive/collectible skirmish game) has many starter sets below $75 - usually a new one drops every year or so for Marvel. If done right, another $25 easily expands that army with ebay lots or "Fast Forces" that offer 6 figure complete armies. Also the movement and attack measuring is very much like the Halo game you mentioned, utilizing squares but measuring model to model for line of sight.
The Walking Dead: All Out War is a gold standard in starter sets in my mind. Obv depends if you like the zombie survival theme, but the starter set comes with everything you'll need. I do love these cheaper starter sets, seeing a LOT of very expensive starter sets that seem to miss the point.
Would love to see the solo video!!
Ttcombat Dropzone Commander 2 player starter set is about $60 USD. Comes with a ton of models, most are pretty easy assembly. Great 10mm scale game that plays on a 4x4 area.
Great video... Veey tempting options. Will love a solo game video... And also a multiplayer (more than 2)... Thanxs uncle Adam
I got the first warcry box for £80 on a third party site in the UK and it was incredible value. Gone are those days I'm afraid
That was an amazing value. The terrain alone in that box was worth it. Thanks for watching!
Yes to solo play, please! That's a huge reason for me to pick up just about any 2 player starter box - the possibility to just play solo. I have so many of the ones you listed here, but generally they're usually a great deal - not just for more miniatures, but the scatter terrain bits. I've repurposed so many into my miniature agnostic skirmish titles...

Another shout for to Mutant Year Zero: Zone Wars, from Free League. The starter set is listed as $66, but online sellers have it for $50. You get an incredible amount of stuff, including 10 sun-dropped minis, cards, tokens, 36x36 map and three (!) sheets of nice cardboard terrain. And yes please for solo content!
Another fantastic Video Uncle Atom. I love the Quar stuff from Wargames Atlantic. I would love to see you do a list on Solo games as well. Thanks for all you do. You have made my Hobby experience better with each video you produce.

Mantic just confirmed that a 2nd print run for the Halo Starter sets is ordered and will arrive together with the 2nd wave of model releases, so it will be available in future
Carnevale's two starter sets are where it's at!
ArcWordle is also a fantasy game and the look is great. The creator has a myminifactory page too. The starter set is a free print and play and each starting warband is $50 in models. All the core rules are also available online for free.
Great video! Yes for solo, please!
I really like Mantic's Deadzone. Their starter sets are very complete.
Want to be a pirate? Try Freebooter's Fate!
I was waiting for the Relicblade shout out. It is my favorite mini game without exception.
The old Malifaux 2E starter box 😍
Super cool list, I'm taking another look at Relicblade!
In Europe you get the Flames of War Starter: "Kursk" for Mid War German vs. Russia for 54€ and the Late War starter "Hit the Beach" German vs. Americans also for 54€ a decent army on both sides with about 50 points (if you can get two starter you have a full 100 point army) the rule book, a quick start guide, enough dices for both sides, the army cards you need and some sort of terrain, in kursk it was 2d terrain in hit the beach you have a V1 Ramp as a scenario model.

Burrows and Badgers doesn't have a starter box set but Oathsworn miniatures has 2 different starter war bands for £22.50 each and the full book is £19.99. total £64.99 (or $86.58 US as of 2024-09-22). Their shipping is fast and very reasonable. My orders usually arrive in a week and I'm on the West coast of Canada. They're currently working on a second edition which, if I'm remembering correctly, will have a solo mode.
Gaslands. Single rule book currently o amazon for $20. Need a minimum of five 6 sided dice, it's best to have more, and print off the move templates found in the rule book. That's it! Very easy to play and very quick to learn. Oops, you will need to get a Hotwheel or Matchbox style of toy car, at least 1 per person. I like using 3x5 cards for the "character sheet" but you can print them out of the book.
Solo SOLO solo SOLO!!!

Another nice thing about Alpha Strike is the time it takes to finish a game. Playing the base rules limits you to a lance at most if you want the game to end the same day. Alpha Strike rules you can play a company or larger within a day. It also makes playing combined arms (mechs, vehicles, and infantry) a lot faster as well.
My dyslexia got the better of me at first, I thought it said, "two, seven player starter kits"😏
Yes, I am much more interested in Solo than two-player games. I do like Relicblade for solo.

Walking dead from Mantic soon to be back available. Think the starter set I got from them was £35 at UK games expo. Really good game and complete starter set.
Agree with this one. I'm not a Walking Dead fan but the tabletop game is absolutely fantastic.
Aye, please do a video on different solo games or ideas on how to make some popular games solo would be good
I *LOVE* a 2 player starter set, to the amusement of my Single System friends. One day I will find something that will drag them away from AoS and my wife can stop rolling her eyes every time the delivery guy drops off another box for me.
Been there. Thanks for watching!
Flames of War & Team Yankee of course!
Really looking at Team Yankee for the helicopters!
