To get more juice out of limes (or lemons), put them in the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds. When they are cool enough to handle, roll them on the counter before slicing them.
If you leave the marshmallows in with the fruits and refrigerate for a couple hours the marshmallows break down a little and get mushy and so so yummy😊
Awesome video again! Glad you liked the bacon and onion with the pierogi, but you upped it again with the cabbage. Great idea. Definitely have to try that! Thank you!
Hi Jessica! Great video! The recipes look fantastic! I think I will try the poblano soup this week. You’re making progress! You know that harvest season is here when you smell the chile roasting! In New Mexico, most growers and grocery stores sell green chile (not poblanos, usually Anaheim or Big Jim ) by the bushel. They will roast the chile for you in a big rotating drum type gas roaster. Most people take it home, peel, stem and seed it, and freeze it. For us , it’s a condiment. We use it on everything from burgers and pizza to scrambled eggs.
Hi NM Native 🧡 I really enjoyed the soup! It’s definitely in my rotation now! Having a store do the work of roasting the peppers would be so handy! This year I have a few Anaheim peppers to try from the garden and more poblanos! Pepper season is here now 😃
I didn't know you could freeze carrots or cabbage this way and will do asap. The coleslaw looks great and we love kohlrabi! With your leftover peppers still in freezer, for next week why not come up with a main dish stuffed poblano dish. You may could add the carrots to cream cheese when stuffing them. Just a crazy idea. Good luck and have fun!
I used fresh cabbage for the coleslaw but the carrots were frozen and I’m always impressed that they stay firm shredded! The frozen cabbage works perfectly fried or in soups! Lovely suggestions mary! 🧡👍🏼
You are getting it done! Last week was a week of leftover freezer meals for me. Created a nice hole in the freezer. Going to try the last bits this week. Takes awhile with two people. I don’t have meal ideas, just random thoughts when I saw what you have. I have to say, I enjoy trying to piece meals together with the freezer stuff. I thought home made beet pasta. Those peppers, beef stroganoff or a version of it with peppers and onions. Spinach pucks can go in either dish. Mashed squash with butter and maple syrup? Like I said, random thoughts. Good luck, you’ve almost reached your goal! I put the last of my zucchini in the freezer for breaded zucchini fries. Putting peppers away and cowboy candy. Second planting of green beans are starting to produce. Garden season went quick this year! The white stuff is on its way!
Hi Carol! I feel like I can see the light at the end of my freezer! 😂 It really is tough with just two people! It’s a real adjustment. I try to get inspired by what needs to be used up…the squash it getting a bit tiresome though! I don’t have nearly as many in the garden this year thankfully 😅 We have a couple of weeks before we start getting good frosts so we’re working to put everything away for the season. It really did go by fast this year!! Happy canning to you 🧡
Omg that corn Chowder looks delicious . I never thought of putting the peppers in my Chowder 😋. Love bacon , onion and fried cabbage but never thought of adding Pierogis but we wouldn't use yogurt or cheese 😋.
Lol yay. Glad the soup was good. Thx 4 the shoutout jessica. Corn idea is jalepeno popper corn salad. Yummy. Yes perogies w onions n bacon dipped in sour cream. . Nom nom
Try pickling your beets. They are great as a side or use them in a salad with red onion orange slices, drizzled with some raspberry vinaigrette. This is great with candied pecans too. Eat all as is or place on some spring mix lettuce.
Try putting the dressing in the bowl then adding the apples. Alternatively if you grate your apples into a bowl of water with a teaspoon of lime or lemon juice they will not turn brown. Works with potatoes too (no lime juice for potatoes). Just drain the apples right before you add them to your slaw.
That’s how I do apples when I’m making pie or canning them but I bet on them being able to last a few minutes. I was pretty wrong 😂 Great tips for keeping apples fresh Melisa!
We just brown our pierogi in butter and I love adding a sprinkle of Cajun seasoning to mine. The cooked cabbage would have been a side, with fresh corn on the cob. Then if any of your fruit salad left had that or some sliced melon.
If you have Vidalia onions in Canada try getting one and try some of that and a few red and green grapes in your coleslaw sometime not bad its also good in chicken salad
I've tried that quite a few times and they usually fall apart on me :( I find boiling them to usually be better. I'm likely just bad at frying them lol
Maybe I should plant ground cherries. Do they grow well in the Pacific Northwest? I think I've seen them in yards as I walk around. I might like the taste of those
Hi! I’m in the interior of British Columbia and they grow quite well here. I really enjoy the taste now but at first it was pretty unfamiliar. Now I really enjoy snacking on them in the garden and I always love fruits that do well without much help! 😜😁 The seed name I buy is called “Aunt Molly’s ground cherries”from West Coast Seeds.
Good morning Jessica, I loved the fruit salad bowl, I add Post honey nuts cereal to my fruit. 🥲. When using a fruit press I score the sides of the lemons to make it press easier. Works great!
@@JessicaWanders haha comes in handy for s'mores like 30 seconds in the microwave...not a true smore but something to have if it's raining and your craving a smore
Is it possible to turn some of those frozen peppers into a pepper jam/jelly? I know that’s not a “meal”, but it would at least make it shelf stable so it won’t be taking up the freezer space. 🤷♀️ I’d add some spinach to a smoothie or maybe try making a spinach and cheese quiche. Great video. Everything looked delicious!
I was thing about a habanero gold jelly but I’d have to make tons because it hardly uses any habaneros! I think I’ll give it a try though. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! It’s great having you watching 🙂🧡
Love these vids! I don't have any suggestions for your remaining ingredients but you have made me think more creatively about the contents of my own freezer. I'm swimming in frozen okra and green beans from last year, so much so that we didn't grow any this year. Not frozen, but in cold storage, I have a ton of potatoes to use before they go bad. I need to can some potatoes soon but to reduce how many have to be used in the next few months.
Hi Karen! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos 🙂 I love trying to find new recipes for the same ingredients! I often have the same things coming from the garden and it’s easy to get stuck in a rut of the same recipes. I’ve never tried okra but I too have a bunch of potatoes to use up at this time of year! Great to have you here watching 🧡
I have been so confused with ground cherries, or brown cherries that are yellow. I'm like what are these. so curiosity finally got me. To my surprise they are not some strange obscure fruit, I found out they are "gooseberries" mystery solved my brain can rest.
Ground cherries are sometimes called Cape gooseberries” and they do get mixed up sometimes but they are not the same. Here’s a link that explains it better than I can 😂 They are not gooseberries. foodsguy.com/ground-cherry-vs-gooseberry/
Uhmm yes! Whipping cream fruit salad breakfast 😆 Sooo good! Maybe I’ll try frying the perogies one of these days…it’s been some years since I tried…maybe I’m better at flipping things now hahaha
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the channel Loretta! I’ve had a few suggestions for that recipe! It might just make the menu! Thanks for the suggestions! 🙂👍🏼
I hope your camping trip is going well. I'm working this afternoon so when I checked and saw that you had a video scheduled I thought - well I know when I'm taking my break! As the video plays I am getting my comment ready because as soon as it's over I need to get back to work. LOL The lemon squeezer is cute but they sell electric ones. Plug it in, place your half a fruit on top the the squeezer does ALL the work. Yes, I am that lazy in the kitchen! I like Mr. Wanders way of making the tuna melt!! I add hot sauce to almost everything too! How can you not have had bacon with your perogies? Maybe that's a prairies thing. Raised in Alberta, now in Manitoba and bacon goes with perogies like peanut butter goes with jam. I'll pass on the cabbage though. (But I don't like sauerkraut either). Could you make creamed spinach with the spinach pucks? You'd be able to use some of the frozen garlic in that too. Grill a nice steak and have yummy creamed spinach on the side. Video over. Liked? yes. Comment? Yes. Have a great week and see you for the next live!
Love the comments! This time we are actually cruising rather than camping! On our way to Alaska now 😀🌊🛳 It’s a bit chilly but wonderful to be getting away! I’ll check out some creamed spinach recipes when we get back home 🥬 See you soon!
Cantaloupe is ready to be eaten when you smell the end with the circle and you can smell the cantaloupe scent. That is how I tell anyways
Thanks Tara! I’ve heard this and I’m always smelling my cantaloupe 🍈 😂 but I don’t smell anything usually…and they are often really ready!
To get more juice out of limes (or lemons), put them in the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds. When they are cool enough to handle, roll them on the counter before slicing them.
Interesting! Thanks for the tip Shannon! 😃
I am having flashbacks from when my kids were little watching The Wiggles and their fruit salad song. 🤣🤣🤣❤️
I’ll have to check it out! Too funny 😁
Finely dice the banana peppers and mix into cream cheese and ranch seasoning for a yummy dip on crackers!
Ohh that sounds interesting! Thank you for the great suggestion Ugh Ugh 👍🏼🙂

Mmm yes! We did have some left over in the fridge and it just got better over time! Loved it! 🧡
Roast the squash with olive oil, butter, and some fresh sage. So good.
Thanks for the suggestion! Sage butter is so good 👍🏼
Best 36:57 of my Sunday 😊

Corn chowder is always a favourite! I always seem to want some kind of dairy on my perogies lol
It helps to warm your lime or lemon in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds.
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to remember to try that :D
After I boil my perogies I add them to the bacon grease and onions in the fry pan. They take on a nice taste and don’t look sickly white lol.
I always have a problem frying them. They always fall apart and end up looking a mess 😔
Oh yes! Yogurt (Greek or otherwise) with a bunch of cut fruit is delicious.
Always a yummy breakfast!
I like to use spinach with mushroom and bacon cheese in making egg bites

The chowder sounds good. Funny thing the other day I had a dream that I would buy some poblanos and cook. I would garnish with cilantro.

I like to add chunked turkey to coleslaw on the second day and make it a main course for lunches.
