    I made pumpkin bread several years ago for the first time. My favourite version had a little chilli pepper in. Not enough to burn or have alot of heat, but just enough to notice it was pumpkin and something else.
    I grew up on Sesame Street, in rural Australia.

    • @JessicaWanders
      @JessicaWanders  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lee :) That's an interesting add! It's so true that sometimes the ingredients that are added have an effect on the taste that is hard to pin point. I didn't notice the cinnamon in the end but if I made it again without it I would probably be able to tell it was different!
      Yes! Sesame Street :D

    On the corn bread casserole I probably would of added the cheese 1/2 way through cooking so it didn’t go as brown

    While I seem to like everything - I can't eat Cilantro as it is like drinking dish soap. I researched to find out why and found that we who HATE the taste lack a certain enzyme that removes that soap taste. So for almost everyone, it would taste like soap to them but they have built in protection. Weird but true. I can taste one tiny bit of leaf that has been added to my helping of whatever had cilantro and I can not even eat that. I sure need to copy your habanaro dish but using way fewer as I don't care for hot food but do appreciate spicy, tasty food. I just really love these videos. I'm thinking a pumpkin/squash soup would be great with chopped hot sausagesand with bread croutons made by frying in bacon fat! I would toast pumpkin or squash seeds to sprinkle on top, also. I like squash seeds better as they aren't as fibrous. Did I mention I love these videos - using your creative powers is fun to watch.

    • @JessicaWanders
      @JessicaWanders  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, some people REALLY don’t like cilantro! It’s not my favourite but I don’t have that soapy flavour. It would be horrible to have that because cilantro is in so many dishes these days it seems 🙁 Sometimes I do toast the seeds! So yummy! Just have to have the time and energy 😜

    If you use top of your wooden spoon first to test oil before adding meat(oil should have bubbles) then oil is ready to brown your meats and will look brown and taste better.

    When you mixed the flour and sugar, it reminded me that I recently went to get powdered sugar out of a canister similar to the one you had your flour in. I love that pumpkin bread! It looks so good! I love Fall/Autumn and I love pumpkin: pumpkin soup, pumpkin bread, pumpkin scones, pumpkin pie, etc. So, that makes me happy!
    That Pico de Gallo looks good, too! My husband likes Cilantro but thinks Italian Parsley tastes like soap. So, he would like that Pico!
    One thing I love in the Fall is a roasted pumpkin and beet salad. Roast the orange squash/pumpkin and the beets and then add to a bed of kale, spinach, mixed greens, etc. Top with a little feta and a balsamic glaze or vinaigrette. It makes a great lunch or dinner side! I got the recipe and inspiration from a documentary/weight loss program called Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. While the pre-program recipes were similar to this Roasted Beet and Squash recipe, I wouldn't recommend the program. I was sick of juice and of juicing after 4 days. And I didn't lose any weight on it.

    it is DEFINITELY delicious with cream cheese! Pumpkin Bread is also great with nuts or cranberries (either fresh orr dried) in it. On your corn bread, I suspect that either the recipe has an ommission or maybe you skipped something but I have never seen a cornbread without flour, my recipes calls for one cup each cornmeal and flour, which would help it to rise. But, if you liked it, then that is all that matters

      I'm going to put out the second loaf with cream cheese for Thanksgiving I think :D
      Yes...I've always made it with flour as well so I was skeptical! It did make a nice cornbread topping so I was REALLY surprised! It was actually great to have a bread topping that I can make without flour. I think next time I might double the cornbread mix and see if I get a thinker layer! Soon I'll make my regular go-to cornbread with flour though lol

    The cornbread casserole looked very flavorful! I’m going to try that, but I’m going to spread the cheese between the meat and cornbread layers - I think I would like a gooey, melted cheese layer instead of the hard cheese on top!

    I make my pumpkin bread with homemade purée which is really thin and it always comes out okay when bakes. Literally tastes the same as with store bought purée but better because of the flavor. Never too much cinnamon! I am going to add it to my baking list this week to use up some of my frozen pumpkin too! You need to try Nutella oat breakfast cookies which are made with oats. You can find the recipe on NOVA Frugal Family under the recipe tab. They are so tasty and filling.

    Jessica look up TH-camr : lil piece of heart for Keto meals/ soups. She made a wonderful looking pumpkin soup, that I think you could use your squash purée or the ones you have in chunks ( just purée them) in this soup. It has sausage in it too, with heavy cream and cheese and sliced green onions for the toppings. I bet crumbled bacon as a topping would be good with it too...bacon makes everything better! Lol. She used organic canned pumpkin, but to me, fresh is always better.

    If you do not want those hot peppers to get in your lungs place all in a blender and blend it up finer. Also, you went to a lot more trouble than I do for the Mexican dish. I just make regular cornbread and add some cream style corn, cooked breakfast sausage, diced jalapeño peppers and Mexican blend shredded cheese or cheddar cheese. Also in place of cooking oil I use bacon drippings and place about 2 tablespoons in my cast iron skillet ( melted in oven) then pour my batter in. You want to hear it sizzle. I serve this cornbread with either white bean soup, white chicken chili or red beans and rice. I never use salsa in my cornbread...your dish looked like something my mother use to make and she called it hot tamale pie. You dish looked good. Your pasta dish looked good too. There is a dish called chicken and noodles that people serve in my town. It has the chicken, gravy like yours, pimento and I think celery and little onion. Then mixed with egg noodles. It was always served with corn, green beans ( on the side) along with a big beautiful homemade roll. Was so good! Your dish reminded me of that dish. Have you ever tried cooking your Brussel sprouts with onion and bacon? Most of the time it is cooked with raw fresh ones... kinda like cabbage. They are so good. I have also baked them with a lot of root vegetables, with onion and whole cloves of garlic and final. Then drizzled with olive oil an S&P. Try taking just roasting up whole garlic. It becomes nutty and looses that raw bite. So good spread on rustic bread and even made into dips with sour cream .

      Great to see you Nancy! It was actually the freshly ground black pepper that was making me cough! I think I just inhaled a whole bunch while I was grinding it or something LOL Your cornbread sounds great! I was trying to find something that would use up as many freezer ingredients as possible and found that recipe with salsa that I could make :D I thought it was really tasty and would definitely try other variations of it in the future! I do make a regular cornbread pretty often to eat with chili but I've never tried adding anything to it! Mmm roasted garlic in a dip sounds like a great idea!
