For the sake of anyone seeing this. Fuse is a current protection device. It helps protect against current arcs.
Inline fuse like this are very good as they help isolate arc if they ever occur on a PV and prevent such an arc from damaging the whole solar array.
However fuse are not voltage protecting devices and as such can never protect you or your panels against surge or transient voltage from an indirect lightning strike.
To protect your panel from voltage surge. You need s couple of things
1- Ground the frame of the panel using PV ground lugs and 6mm cable.. terminate the cable to the house earth electrode.
Next install a surge protection (SPD) device rated for DC application and sized to march the array VOC voltage.

I was about to write this but you answered it very very well....a fuse is good in the system but will never protect against thunderstorms ......a thunder/lightning arrestor and surge protector is the solution to that

Thanks for your contribution, as you have rightly said, it's also an additional protection. Also SPD both AC and DC was used to give a perfect protection from lightning and thunder.

Thank you so much for this. My solar installer did not use this fuse. When I saw this video, I mentioned it to him and he said it is not needed. I know he is wrong and I want to insist that he does the right thing. I have 8 panels connected 4 in series and 2 sets in parallel. Is this fuse needed on each and every panel? Thank you.

@@Ebi_J just one for each series connection.
