Brilliant video, thank you, you have given me the confidence to fit valves on my radiators. I’m 70 years young but fiercely independent and love tackling little jobs round the house.
Thanks for the help. Have just installed 2, now waiting for them to calibrate. Fingers crossed. If all goes well will invest in some more and do the rest of the house
@@leec3419 I have all the valves set to 14 and the heating in most rooms to manual, with only the most used rooms set to boost to 22 at peak times. In 2021 I reduced my gas bill by £63 compared to 2020
How do you calibrate them? I’ve just installed 6 of them and have no idea on how do calibrate them. Can’t find anything online either. Do I set my thermostat to manual, do I leave it off, do I boost it, what temp do I set it at. There’s literally nothing out there to explain this.
Just recently had a new boiler fitted along with Hive. The valve on one of my radiators vibrates quite quickly and the noise it makes gets transmitted through the whole system. Seems to happen when the rad temperature approaches the heating temp. Stopping the rad valve will stop the vibrations. Other radiators are no problem. Pin on the valve body seems free. Any idea whats goi g on and a cure? Thanks.
Great content. I noted and appreciated the small touches like muting and not saying "her voice" (even though I don't have an Alexa) and the highlighting in the device videos.
Do these TRVs work purely from an app and do they not require a hub like some other brands of TRV ? I'm wanting smart TRVs but want to keep it simple without a hub
Depends on how frequest you change the temp on the radiators. I have mine set to run a schedule to boost the temp every morning and I have found on average the batteries last about 1 year. Use good quality batteries.
Thank you for posting this video online. I have a two questions: 1) Do you know how you get the M30 adapter off the TRV? I'm struggling to get the TRV off the radiator again as no much to grip and once I did get it off, I couldn't unscrew the adapter. 2) Do you have Hive Active Heating? I do...I currently have 2 zones - upstairs and downstairs. I'm looking to use my TRV to control one room over the garage but when the TRV calls for heat (linked to upstairs thermo with heat on demand enables), all the upstairs radiators come on, which kinda defeats the purpose of only wanting to heat a single room. How do you have yours setup?
Sean Delaney I think the information on the set up instructions ( when asked if you want to activate “on demand”) states that activating on demand heat will cause other radiators to heat up too. I also thought the same as you.... the whole idea is that “you never have to heat an empty room “ !
The TRV is calling for heat so the boiler turns on and send hot water to the radiator. That water will also flow through to all other radiators on the system. It will only work properly if you have Hive TRVs on all radiators then the other radiators that don’t need heat will shut off preventing hot water from flowing through those radiators so it only goes to the radiator calling for it.
thank you very Informative. Have you suffered with the Hive TRV not working correctly too cold or too Hot as lots of folks seem to be having issues. I'm considering purchasing however seem a bit reluctant with some of the highlighted issues?
Never had an issue with the heat side of things. The only issue I get is the valves sometimes with disconnect or won't boost. This is usually down to batteries dying.

I've fitted 5 today managed to set a couple of scenes and schedules ....but one valve is saying low batteries .. i've done the reset several times... put new batteries in (even though I used the ones in the box originally) but still alerting low batteries.. any idea what I could do?
Not sure to be honest. Best thing I could suggest would be to delete the device from the hive app and try to set it up again. If you still have the problem them I would suggest you contact Hive web chat
Great video! Thanks! Can you give permission to other members of your family to specific trvs? So the wife permission to the bedroom but not the batcave or the kids only access to their own rooms?
I don't believe that is possible through the hive app. You can do it via Home Assistant but that is a whole other can of worms if you are not familiar with Home Assistant.
During the summer months I have it set to manual and set the radiators to a low temp. I do this as the ambient temperature is high. During winter I up the minimum radiator temp and set a schedule to heat the rooms I need at peak times. At all times I have hearing on demand enabled.

Also, I have 6 radiators. But one doesn't have a trv. Will I be able to set this single one to frost control and the other 5 independently of each other. Many Thanks for your reply.
The ones with the Hive TRV will be able to be heat individually. You should have at least one radiator with no thermostatic valve or smart valve on it. That radiator will not be controllable, when the heating is on this radiator will just heat. Hope that makes sense
I have followed your instructions. All 5 valves are calibrated but when I try to boost 2 rads downstairs the boiler does not come on..even if I raise the temp on the valves...any help would be appreciated
Hello, your heating MUST be on in order for the radiators with TRV’s to heat/boost etc. I bought 5 TRV’s back in Oct, thinking that I could control individual rooms for guests staying so I could have that room set to a temp comfortable for them while not having the master room heating too. But how wrong was I. I personally believe hive has/is false advertising these. The only thing TRV’s are handy for is the convenience of turning on/off your radiators without manually going round each room to turn the radiator up/down. Hope this helps.
Yes the Thermostat is there in my app and is running. I have heating on Demand turned on in the setting for the thermostat so each radiator can demand heating when needed.
Hi anyone know how to remove the RA adaptor from the hive thermostat, i have accidently screwed it on and its not the one i need and cant seem to remove it? any advice would be good? cheers
Hello, I bought 5 of these back in Oct. I have lost count the amount of times I’ve rung Hive as only one of them has calibrated and my heating has been on for hours on end to try get them to calibrate. When I do select calibrate while my heating is on, the TRV radiators are freezing until you remove the TRV and then instantly the radiator (with no valve on) heats instantly. Any advise as I’m loosing the will now :(
I had a problem with my living room radiator not calibrating. I just took both batteries out for a few seconds and put them back in, boosted the heating and hit calibrate and it worked. Make sure your batteries are not dead and does the value get a good signal?
It would be good if these things actually worked... I installed one in the bedroom and selected to calibrate the thing and it did nothing at all and now doesn't get to any temperature

Every now and then I tend to find that some of the values won't boost the heating. I find it usually due to low batteries and the app hasn't reported low power in that valve. The other reason is sometimes the thermostat has just lost the plot. The first thing I do is take the batteries out of the value and the thermostat and everything is back to normal. Then just keep an eye on it and if it occurs again change the batteries

I would double check your battery level on the valve and possibly replace the batteries. Also make sure that the valve is able to request heat by manually boosting the temp in that room and see if it heats up. Lastly make sure there are no open widows near by that might be causing a draft on the valve.
