I followed the same process as you in SpeedTree, but when I export to Max, there are fewer leaves and the trunk texture lacks details. I re-did the export process, but the problem persists. I'm using the latest versions, and I'm really struggling with this.
Seems to work fine here on my end by exporting it and using the speedtree importer script for 3ds max that comes with speedtree but yes hard to explain it via text , if you want join my discord channel where i can post a small video explain this with non conmentry videos link to my discord is on my Patreon :)
