This takes me back to being a 12 year old lad, loving the game. This is the first football i have watched in years, i still remember most of this team, who they played for. Happy days
For me Scotland was a good team with many great players but.... Dalglish excellent player and against Belgium absolutly fantastic !!! My respect from Italy 🇮🇹🏴
Underachieved (as usual) for how many great players we had then. Most of the team had won a European trophy recently (Liverpool, Notts Forest, Aberdeen) .. & 1s team players from Aston Villa: McNaught, Bremner, Evans (82 EC winners) & Notts Forest: John McGovern, Kenny Burns, John o'Hare, (79, 80 EC winners) that barely even got a cap back then.
Strachen was a great wee player. In grand scheme of things I think he was underrated. We took players like him for granted. Imagine what we would make of him now!
@@meisterlymanu5214 england have won 1 trophy in a hundred years of international football what a great achievement in a 150 games against scotland scotland they have won 49 times to scotland s 45 wins what another great achievement for a country with sixty more millon population
I was at this game in Halle,Nov 83! How some of the Tartan army managed to wear kits in temps of -20, I will never know! p.s. The East German fans were fantastic and made us feel very welcome!
The Scotland national team was founded in 1873 AD Achievements of the Scotland national football team Scotland has twice participated in the European Championship. He beat England in 1966/1967 in the World Cup. Scotland defeated World Cup runners-up France by one goal in 2006 during the World Cup.
Golden age of football. Also "small" nations had great players... The eighties were legendary. Pity in 84 only 8 teams could qualify. With 16 teams it would have the same appeal of a world cup.
Classic footy kits....Both rather excellent....apart from the very short shorts....But that was the '80's...Takes me back to playing in local Sunday league stuff....Ha !!!
Ahh, the 'Good Old Days' - when Scotland players actually played and fought for their country - unlike today's, that for some it's 'just another game' !
@Finanz Ferdinand 1 ,what has that got to do with modern players not trying and 2 you are all through this pointing out the obvious if the Scottish national team upset you so much stop watching
point would be a valid one if I was saying they didn't underachieve , wasn't replying to what you said you cretin but nice to see you have nothing else going that you jump on any thread you have commented on
exactly. Footy historians say there were great Scottish teams in 70s and 80s. There werent. Just a collection of a few , very few good players. And Dalglish was the only world class player. Complete narrow minded parochial thinking. And Belgium did nothing in the finals.
Great days, when football was real and not this plastic EPL rubbish, id far rather watch the SPL or Serie A any day, at least they’re real fans with real passion.
Alan Hansen was great at Liverpool with Phil Thompson, Mark Lawrenson etc to do the defending while he strolled about pretending to be Franz Beckenbauer no use for Scotland who didn't dominate games like Liverpool. For the 3rd Belgian goal in particular, he just lets his man run off him
Yeah so crap in defense these days that in their last 4 matches against Spain, Norway , Georgia and Cyprus they've conced a shocking 1 goal (a dodgy penalty). Go and talk BS someshere else.

Interesting to hear from an Italian perspective, grazie
@@myblues528 thanks so much to you ! Happy new year and always go Scotland 🏴
The goals by Dalglish v Belgium away (2nd goal) and the Nicholas goal vthe Swiss were absolute class 👍

Not to mention the likes of Wark and McGrain

yeah, youd finish third in any group...again.

Dalglish and Souness were great football players! Strachan was amazing! love❤ Scotland
That Belgium away game was awesome, despite the outcome.
Watching Dalgleish torment defenders must have been a thing of beauty to watch in person
It rarely happened when KD was in a Scotland jersey, sadly.

Lineup looks like 1978 judging by the kit. Diamonds down the sleeves
@P B I think the guy was talking about the picture of the Scotland team shown before the footage started.
@@stephenturner6075 Yes it's the line up before the World Cup group stage match against Netherlands in the 1978 World Cup
Dalglish ... ♠

@Finanz Ferdinand well if you can read and understand English its pretty obvious (just like your comments) who I was speaking to
Whaaaaat?? The current Scotland squad would wipe the floor with this bunch.
Scotland had great players back then one win and finished bottom of the group ! Someone will have to explain to me what was great about them ?
They weren't. They were shit. Old men that look back through rose tinted glasses and remember players being better than they actually were.

Defensively this Scotland team was garbage. All over the place.
