I remember watching the Bulgaria v Scotland match with my dad as a kid. It was unbelievable, my dad's nerves were in tatters. The commentary you have for that match was the Irish national broadcaster RTE's, the commentator is George Hamilton and the cut away during it was to RTE studio in Dublin. The great John Giles, Leeds Utd legend, was among the the panel...happy days😊
I watched it in the Flying Toad aka The Flowing Tide in Dublin and in the dying minutes of the game there were people on their knees promising to go back to the church if only the Bulgars would not score :-) ...indeed happy days.
The Polish commentator at the end of the video (the report from the 0:0 with Luxembourg) said that 'the 0:0 result with Luxembourg show the actual crisis in Scottish team playing'. Thanks for the new video-set!
In the 80s Scotland had not only Celtic and Rangers, but clubs like Aberdeen and Dundee United that were successful in Europe. Incredible the competition in European club football from just Scotland alone and now just a handful of clubs dominate.
In fact in the 80’s it was Aberdeen, Dundee Utd who dominated Scottish and European football, Celtic weren’t far behind abd rangers were absolutely nowhere playing in front of 5,000 regularly
Problem was, other teams had great players too, Scifo, Ceulemans, Vandenbergh, Claesen, Brady, Houghton, McGrath, Aldridge, Stoichkov, Sirakov. Andy Roxburgh's 6 man defence didn't help.
Я уже даже не представляю, как можно было играть без VAR? В те годы, если бы судья захотел, то мог бы засудить абсолютно любую команду. Пенальти ставились, исходя от настроения судьи!

They won in Bulgaria but not in Luxembourg!

For the players Scotland had back then they REALLY fuckin underperformed.
Underperformed ? They were pish.

How Scotland performed so badly beats me they had some good players. I remember Gary Scoring he went on to have a great career at Hearts.
Mo Johnstone was Scotlands number 1 striker for years after he left the Gers his career kinda stalled🤪⚽️
Mon the Scots!
