- An excellent and informative biography of animator Genndy Tartakovsky, creator of such shows as Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory, Sym-Bionic Titan, and Star Wars: Clone Wars. Craig McCracken, Rob Renzetti, Paul Rudish, and Genndy's wife and brother all appear. Narrated by the late Mako Iwamatsu, voice of Aku in Samurai Jack. This was originally available on the Season 2 DVD of Samurai Jack, released in 2007.

Hearing Mako narrating is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.
yeah. I thought it was nice for Mako to do this to tribute his fellow friend and colleague. He must have had fun playing Aku. :) Sad he is gone :/

***** I'm talking about the ones from the 90's. Yes, they exist. While Dexter's Lab was the only one he actually created from that timeline, he did also help with other shows, like Tiny Tunes.

Genndy didn't really come into his own until Samurai Jack, Star Wars, and Sym Bionic Titan.
Genndy is the Jack Kirby of animation, he was a hard worker and passionate about his art, and in the end he would always get screwed by the higher ups, getting his shows cancelled
Samurai Jack....
He would always reach the time portal, but Aku would always destroy it.
I feel like this happens far too many times to talented artists, regardless of the medium.
Shame to think some visions and dreams may never be seen because a person who doesn't understand the art itself, didn't make enough money.

This guy is totally my hero
There are two main things that make Genndy amazing. For one, his designs are MEANT to be animated, they don't look good on their own in still images, but they're perfect for movement. And Genndy's the master at timing and visual presentation over dialogue--something that most directors struggle with.
Yeah, he even talked about that in the Powerpuff Girls behind the scenes documentary. He had trouble with character designing while PPG's creator Craig McCracken wasn't very good with animation and timing, so they helped each other with their weaknesses

Inspirational story. If "talent" exists then it´s completely overrated. Just know what you´re passionate for, and take your passion seriously and with hard work. Do not listen to speculations about the future of one way or another, just take your passion to your own limit, that´s the key to succeed.

For anybody else here that truly appreciates this man's work, I would recommend checking out Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal. It came out in 2019 and I just recently discovered it. Not sure if there will be more seasons, but it could potentially rival Samuria Jack.
This guy is my hero. Samurai Jack seriously made my life. Especially clonewars 2003 and sym bionic titan.
I love every damn creator that made my child this man is one of them thank you for everything

+DrSpikeSpiegel it will be hard to find watch it without the voice of the great Mako as Aku. a good choice would be to get the guy who replace him on AVATAR, Or maybe a different approached like get Ken Watanabe, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa from 90s Mortal Kombat or the guy who played Shingne on The Wolverine.

Interesting to see Genndy's accent sounds as American as one can be, but his brother has a noticeable Russian accent.

I grew up On Bugs Bunny and Charles Jones, Robert Mckimson and the rest of those hilarious guys. LOOOOVED the art direction and style. Genndy and his crew are the closest next iteration of that cycle of humor and style and originality. They saw he could Execute, i.e. Comic Timing. Nice!

they had more time than they thought they would. and if this season does well, they might still have plenty of years to go. there are other 2D action cartoons right now doing pretty well.
Faizal Ali Yeah but rise are in the minority. There used to be a while lot more in 2010 - 2012. The only ones doing any good are the ones that sell merch - toys and dvds.
In order for Jack to be a true success we need to buy the DVDs.

I hope, they will not kill Aku in 2016's new series. That positive demonic guy is my favourite character (I never felt such attachment to the character; so, he's something more than just charismatic villain).
P.S. And I hope that it will be still the same clever, cunning, mighty, funny, sarcastic and quirky Aku, whom everyone loved so much in childhood.

Hope. And the fact there is 50 years of gap between S4 and S5. They can make another season in few years.
To back this up, look at the episode numbers, S4 finale is Ep 52 and S5 starts with Ep 92 (XCII)
So keep asking for me coz we love Samurai Jack
