I do greatly appreciate that Ashi was the one to face her mother all by herself. The character definitely deserved this closure.

It did, and the show got an alternate ending by making a video game called Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time, which the alternate ending is indeed canon.

From what I heard, the game ending was intended to be the original ending. But it was cut do to time issues. Apparently Ashi was supposed to disappear, then the gods who made Jack's sword brought her back as a reward to Jack.

Yeah except with that ending he is still stuck in Aku’s time loops so he will never find peace and be in constant battle and also probably lose Ashi multiple times in the process. Great ending whereas the original had a better open ended interpretation for Jack’s future

I’m a materialist and I don’t think it’s unfeasible for a person to exist outside of their own timeline. You see this happen in Destiny with the Vex where the Taken accidentally do exactly that, and a head canon of Destiny 2 is that the Vex are trying to build another timeline post-entropy in which they are capable of existing.

The fact that Ashi is willing to throw herself at all cost to save Jack even by killing her mother shows what a true wife and girlfriend she’d be for Jack

The ending to this show felt like such a slap in the face to fans that just wanted to see Jack happy.
That's why the video game was great.
The ending was fantastic. Just because it wasn't a happy ever after does not mean it wasn't good.
The ending’s pretty damn joyful all things considered. He’s back in his time with his family and friends and he doesn’t have to worry about Aku or his minions anymore

@@GummyKermit there's a possibility that they were "re-born" but not in the sense of the timeline that Aku created. For example, Ashi can still be born with her sisters, this "corrected" timeline can have their mother more as loving and caring rather than controlling. The Scotsman can still be born but minor changes like "not having the gun leg" since there hasn't been fierce battles in the lands due to what Aku has created. Da Samurai is now a hip hop artist. And so on.
Jack is just from a timeline hundreds of years before all those characters were born while the characters he met throughout the show were born under Aku's tyranny and desolation of the earth they once lived in.

I feel this scene was the overall conclusion of Ashi’s character arc and the final scene where she’s treated as a secondary protagonist of the series. After Jack regained the sword and sense of self, she was relegated to plot device and love interest.

Me too. I like this show better when it was on Cartoon Network honestly because it started off as a kids series.
You never know the story could end here. The teen titans is probably the most sought after continuation many upon many fans are wanting but I doubt we will get it...I mean they made teen titans go instead...but I. The movie the made where teen titans meet teen titans go, they are aware that fans prefer the og teen titans so...we might get it someday....when we are old and gray. Lol.
Here's the kicker about this show: The game that was released specifically after the end is canon. So whichever one you feel is canon it is fine by the creators. I personally prefer Season 5's ending rather than the game ending because I stand by my statement: you don't FUCK with time.

Thanks to Jack, Ashi has changed her ways, everything (even her hair). Her character has truly changed showing that no matter how much her mother has brainwashed her, the good still remained within her. She can take Ashi out of the good but she can’t take the good out of her.

They were simply mindless weapons when Jack fought them. Raised only for one singular purpose. What would become of them in the event that they succeeded? Would they be discarded? how would they function without their target?
The reality is that they were never truly born. Ashi was only given life through her meeting with the Samurai.
Okay just imagine how tough Ashi and Jack's children turned out to be. And yes! I consider the video game ending the true cannon ending!

Aim is only part of it. That thing skewered the High Priestess just by throwing it. You’d need tremendous upper body strength to give that arrow enough velocity to pierce a target if you’re actually THROWING it. Also, Ashi wasn’t just TRAINED for combat, she was born and bread for it from the day she was exposed to oxygen. Jack has just as much training as she does under his black belt, but he’s never done anything like that

Just like Zira from Lion King: Simba's Pride. Filled with hatred, rage, disgust, wrath, and vengeance.
To me, vengeance solves absolutely nothing. Even when you kill a person who ruined your life, you kill other innocent bystanders who is like the person you just kill.
Also both had no explanations as to why they would even worship the ones they worshipped. Like why is Zira devoted to Scar even though it was obvious he was a terrible king? Why is Ashi's mother devoted to Aku when Aku is clearly a tyrant who has ruined the world?
They're both HORRIBLE parents, who care more about their goals then their own kids even seeing their kids as tools to reach their goals. Zira's reaction to Nuka dying (which it was her own fault he died as he was trying to get her attention after years of being neglected) even becomes void when she flat out says "This is for you Scar!" no mention of having justice for Nuka so she instantly got over him its all about Scar.
Oh and Zira wasted her life trying to kill the wrong person as it was the hyenas who killed Scar. And there's the irony that Kovu does end up becoming the next king like she wanted only without murdering Simba so her vengeance really was all for nothing.

Now imagine if Ashi's mother pulled the arrow out and came back up with the rest of her cult and it was Jack's turn to fight. At some point in the battle he would have thrown that big one like he did with that guy from the Scottsman clan.
While it would have been epic to have Jack fight Ashi's mother and get to kill a human without feeling any remorse since she's a heartless witch even Jack would be able to see some humans are straight up evil and they're not worth trying to save or redeeming them. I think the rest of the cult is already dead at this point considering the daughters killed a number of them in their training and since the mother was obsessed with the whole eliminating the weak she probably made the surviving ones fight to the death until they all killed each other (or she made them fight her and she killed them all)

My pet theory. The Guardian and the Time Portal were destroyed in the future by Aku, but they still exist in the new present day Jack created-and now he's worthy of challenging the time guardian and overcoming him, where he wasn't before. The last we saw the portal opened to a future that didnt yet exist, so it's possible it could open to a future that no longer does...one with Ashi still in it. He could bring her out of that point in the timeline without her vanishing, as doing so would take her from a moment locked in time, where Aku is still yet to be defeated.

Jack's story is over and we should leave it at that. Making new plots, that "Aku is not actually dead" or "Ashi turns bad again" will just ruin the magic of a good ending. And making a new season about Jack's son will be like Boruto: unnecessary and just worse than original.
Having said that, I see your point and it would be fun to know, what Jack did after he technically became Emperor in some sort of comics. Maybe he traveled to Scotland to make an alliance with Scotsman's ancestors

I don't know if this is referenced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Avatar: The Way of Water and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Fun Fact: That film is releasing in Philippine cinemas this coming February 15. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the final entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Four and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be the first entry in Phase Five.
