Primal is a masterpiece. He really took the concept of no dialogue and heavy emphasis on visual storytelling. It's for the children who grew up with his cartoons and are now adults.
Couldn't agree more. Powerpuff girls was my favorite from when I was old enough to tell my parents what I wanted to watch. Samurai Jack and Clone Wars kept me on the edge of my seat through grade school. Watching through Primal now with the same excitement.

I loved the first Hotel Transylvania and never knew Tartakovsky worked on it. He really made it something special and the way he added 2D characteristics to the 3D animation really made it look good! When I think of that film, my mind instantly thinks of all the exaggerated still poses and facial expressions. And that man deserves an award for removing motion blur in a 3D animated movie, more 3D films and shows should follow suit. The action and movements all look so much clearer without an annoying motional blur smudging everything. I remember watching the final season of the 3D Clone Wars and was annoyed by how the show had added motion blur. It really made some of the season's actions scenes less clear than in older seasons. What should have been newer, better animation was marred by the addition of motion blur.
Genndy Tartakovsky's movement is breath-taking. It takes a true master of their craft to make a moment of silence engage an audience as much as an action scene.
Royal Ocean FIlm Society literally already compared him to Leone, but I chose not to make the same comparison bec I didn't want to plagiarize him. It's still some fun trivia to know about tho.

I still love the Jack and the 300 episode where he did direct reference to The 300 and Miller's style, then later Zach Snyder literally copied Tartakovsky's shots in the movie.
Hotel Transylvania was made for entertainment and escapism. An escape to the hotel. I never took the trilogy seriously, and that's why I love it! There's a time to turn on the brain and there are times to turn them off and laugh at the gags.
True but other than the animation, I don’t think Genndy should have done the sequels, he should have done his own shows and gotten to do Popeye and Can You Imagine? at Sony while some other director made the sequels.
I loved most of Samurai Jack Season 5. It’s just the ending that made me feel meh. I mean at first I didn’t like it and thought it felt pretty underwhelming but after the game came out it did make the ending so much better but looking back now I do respect the original ending. Even so I do still think the game and its conclusion and true ending is still loads better.

Trapped in the future for 50 years, but importantly does not age. I'm totally fine with the ashi stuff, and the finale ties in with his having to address his entitlement/expectations earlier to achieve balance. Plus you experience the highs and lows he did for years trying to get to a portal back, it hits well for me and plenty others
Genndy is one of greatest creators saving western animation right now. He stands proud to show originality and dynamic thinking can make any project a fantastic marvel!
Imagine if this guy creates a Hellboy animated series like adapting the Short stories of hellboy, it's a perfect fit to his style of visual storytelling and the aeasthetic.
Genndy was probably the first modern animation director that I discovered, it helps that during commercial breaks Cartoon Network used to interview their shows creators, others featured were Danny Antonucci from Ed, Edd & Eddy. I grew up watching Dexter's Lab on Cartoon Network Latin America in the late 90s and when before Samurai Jack's premiere they showed those interviews. Despite being totally different in tone I could immediately recognize the similarities between his shows. Clone Wars was actually my first contact with Star Wars
Genndy is amazing. Samurai Jack and Titan gets a lot of replay in my house. As a non fan of Star Wars his version was incredible. Primal was great and Unicorn was good. Love the little to no dialogue method.
I grew up with this mans work as a child watching all his cartoons. He honestly is a huge inspiration for me because I’m coming up with my own cartoon. I wish to meet Genndy one day to tell him about my idea just to get a good opinion off of him or maybe some advice he’d be willing to give. I’m not a great artist but the story is coming along well and I can’t wait for more of his work to be put out.
I didn't even know who he was before watching this. I was just a guy who liked cartoons. Seeing how I've seen all of those works and them all having been made by the same guy just gives me a new appreciation for what he's done. The dude created my childhood. Nice to see that part of my life come full circle.

Wow had no idea he worked on Hotel Transylvania, that feels so random to me. And 1000% agree with the majority of your points, I absolutely loved what he did with The Clone Wars. Probably the only time General Grevious was actually a potent, well designed, badass, threat and I loved that.

I liked Ashi. Glad she was in the season. I like how she showed Jack's influence while travelling to all the places he had been. It was a great recap of his journey that was about to end.

I was always disappointed that symbiotic titan got cancelled. I loved it as a kid and thought it had a lot of potential with cool plot ideas. All of these cartoons were my favorites growing up and I'd like to start watching Primal soon 👏

Growing up, Genndy to me was a cinematic cartoonist. If you saw his name anywhere on it, it was guarenteed to be an experience like no other. Usually a grand epic adventure that's full of great references or a serious story that doesn't talk down, but at eye-level. There is so many shows I've discovered thanks to his work, that I keep finding myself going back just to see something I've missed or to experience a grand story all over again.
Primal came out during my birthday weekend and MAN was that a treat. Also I had nooooo idea he made Symbionic Titan. He’s definitely one of my favorite directors!

And I honestly think people who are trying to make an issue out of their relationship because Jack is apparently immortal while Ashi is younger are frankly just looking for something to complain about. In fact, I think people overlook the symbolic nature of their relationship, Jack & Ashi represent yin & yang. If Jack vs Aku was about light vs the darkness then Jack & Ashi's relationship is about the harmony between light and darkness which is ultimately leads Jack defeating Aku once and for all. The only fundamental problem that I had with the series finale is that it felt too rushed and you can tell that Genndy wanted to do much more to bring Samurai Jack to an epic conclusion.
I love how Clone Wars, with 2-5 minute episodes, routinely had more dialogue than Samurai Jack, with 25 minute long episodes. There is something magical about Jack's use of silence. It so often puts me in mind of the traditional Hollywood epic and its capacity for breathing on a moment.
I owe Tartakovsky a lot for creating some of the most epic and action-packed scenes my character has ever had! My fight with Durge for example showed off lightsaber and Force feats I didn't even know I was cable of performing!
The most iconic thing about Genndy to me has to be his type of art styles. My art style is very geometric(pfp is very old, pay no attention), so seeing someone with many geometric art styles can be motivating for me to continue doing art.
Man, a dream team up for me would be Genndy Tartakovsky and Zack Snyder. Both their styles of direction and storytelling are so similar, yet I feel like they’d work off each other rather than just do the same thing.
This is one really enjoyable video since G.Tartakovsky is amazing animator of my childhood. I dont really agree on some subjects u meantioned but i still really appreciate this video since it really explains full Tartakovskys story.
I think a good example of Tartakovky's narration without dialogue is that scene of Clone Wars with the tribal painting representing that Anakin would become Darth Vader.
Idk If I agree with the hole Jack relationship being "yikes". But it was an easy out for the show. Endings are hard to nail almost every show misses. Im not sure what a perfect ending would look like with this show. since its more of an episodic adventure and we dont have a ton of his family backstory or even his early life. That being said its a master piece and so is primal. Primal has nailed everything so far for me 10/10 every episode but one.
This video will be very helpful to me. I just binged Primal yesterday on HBOMAX and was blown away. By episode 2 I was glued to the TV, I just couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I see Samurai Jack is also available, so I'll be starting that soon.
Samurai Jack and Clone Wars. Bro, the cinematic references and pure utter utilization of the characters to their max potential in Clone Wars is mind blowing. I love Samurai Jack, it blew my mind when it first came out. But the Clone Wars was so refined and perfected, there is almost no flaws besides it’s short length.

Another thing that should be noted are the sounds effects (explosions, gunshots, and machinery) is adds a lot more crunch to the shows.

There was also an episode in Samurai Jack where Jack fought alongside Spartans. That was inspired by Frank Miller's 300 comic. :)

Man, a dream team up for me would be Genndy Tartakovsky and Zack Snyder. Both their styles of direction and storytelling are so similar, yet I feel like they’d work off each other rather than just do the same thing.
Was not expecting to hear music from Gundam Unicorn while watching a video essay on Genndy Tartakovsky. But I'm all for it!
This is one really enjoyable video since G.Tartakovsky is amazing animator of my childhood. I dont really agree on some subjects u meantioned but i still really appreciate this video since it really explains full Tartakovskys story.

I think a good example of Tartakovky's narration without dialogue is that scene of Clone Wars with the tribal painting representing that Anakin would become Darth Vader.

Idk If I agree with the hole Jack relationship being "yikes". But it was an easy out for the show. Endings are hard to nail almost every show misses. Im not sure what a perfect ending would look like with this show. since its more of an episodic adventure and we dont have a ton of his family backstory or even his early life.
That being said its a master piece and so is primal. Primal has nailed everything so far for me 10/10 every episode but one.

This video will be very helpful to me. I just binged Primal yesterday on HBOMAX and was blown away. By episode 2 I was glued to the TV, I just couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I see Samurai Jack is also available, so I'll be starting that soon.

Samurai Jack and Clone Wars. Bro, the cinematic references and pure utter utilization of the characters to their max potential in Clone Wars is mind blowing. I love Samurai Jack, it blew my mind when it first came out. But the Clone Wars was so refined and perfected, there is almost no flaws besides it’s short length.
