I'm on the edge of turning 50 and my entire life I have saved little bits of what most people considered trash, just have never been able to help myself. My whole family jokes about my packrat ways, but so many things just look useful or interesting that I have to tuck it away into a box. A while back I ordered a miniature kit and had the most fun making it my own with little bits and pieces. At long last some of those 20+ year old pieces of plastic met their destiny and I am hooked! Life has been not so great lately (as for so many others for so many reasons), and the little sparks of joy your channel has given me each evening the last few months can't be understated. It's more than just the tutorials, it's peace and kindness, it's being called a doll, it's innocence, it's finding and creating beauty in things most folks overlook. I know this is probably too deep and sappy, but know that when people say what a comfort you are to them that they really, really mean it. Thanks, Gretchen, from all of us who are worn down but still get up to face what's in front of them every day and soak up every simple pleasure we can. You lighten the load more than you know and I just wanted you to hear that. ❤

.......Soooooo You already know tears are pooling in my eyes because this comment resonated with me so deeply. It's really amazing how this platform has opened a whole world for me to share and connect in this way. I appreciate so much that you took the time to say this! THIS is DEEP but not sappy at ALL. Because I can HEAR YOUR HEART past the sentences, past the words and letters. It is Amazing how I have had supplies, tools and equipment for years and because I felt too much time had passed it seems like a waste. But i am learning that some things are provided ahead of THEIR SEASON! My DADDY gave me some tiny Clay tools he said someone left at a job he had. They were not tools he used , but he said he couldn't throw them away. In 2020 he gave me the tools and they were just what i needed. He said he had had the tools over 20 years. I am learning to be a good steward over gifts and resources until there season comes. And not to abandon, discard or dishonor my gifts because someone didn't see there value. We can't allow BLIND people to Proofread OUR VISION! I'm so glad to hear you have found Comfort, Peace and Kindness here.Thank you for confirming know you can feel it.....

@@littlegretchensworkshop7665 😭 You are so right about everything having a season! That is a concept I couldn’t have wrapped my head around when I was young, but that must be wisdom kicking into gear. I love the story of the tools your dad gave you and I know that you must think of him every time you use them, which is the REAL gift! I am big on stewardship and gratitude so completely understand where you’re coming from with that. It has been such a joy to discover others who see the beauty and potential in everything! I’ve always been drawn to the dirty, dusty, neglected stuff in a dark corner. The miniature community has made me realize what a powerful gift that is in myself, which is just…WOW. It’s wild to discover that a trait you’ve had your entire life that you never put much stock into is actually a bit of magic. What an incredible blessing it is to naturally have what is a completely different sense, just as sight or hearing is! I’ve always been this way with old houses, but there’s something extra special about it when in such tiny scale. A 1/16” piece of thread giving the wow factor to a project is just the most amazing thing!
Receiving is giving, so I’m sending appreciation for you taking the time to indulge my emotional outburst! 🫶😆

YES being able to see value in, old, damaged and discarded things or the be able to see uses for what some people consider trash in a TRUE GIFT! For many many years l did not attribute very much value to my love for making and collecting miniatures. It was not popular in my circle so I hid it for many years 😢. So I totally feel where you are coming from. Sometimes our gifts are hidden until they can be revealed in a setting where they can be appreciated. Also, sometimes they are hidden from those who may try to exploit our gifts. I am so Grateful for my Father who ALWAYS encouraged me not to give up! That it's never too late to be who you were ALWAYS meant to be😊❤❤❤❤!

I've just discovered these videos too! I used to make miniatures for a doll-house that I made for my young daughter, and I loved doing it so much! Finding odds and ends, even stuff on the street that people had discarded, and using it to make a fry-pan, or a lamp, etc. It makes me happy to find that I'm not the only one.

@@littlegretchensworkshop7665 I agree! It makes it very special! I have a “ Beach house” dollhouse I made a couple of years ago. I found a broken up dollhouse in pieces at a flea market. It was sitting around waiting on inspiration . I saw a beach house at a miniatures show and decided that was it! Since I had zero budget, I ended up making most everything . Dollar tree furniture recreated, a few old pieces mixed in and even built a sofa from scratch. Someday , I’d like to do a video .

Rescuing a Dollhouse and making it BEAUTIFUL again is SUCH A JOY I believe that just like my Real Life HOUSE, a Dollhouse should be i a collection of things I bought, I made , I thrifted and things that were given to me. It adds to the layers of interest.😀I'd love to see your Beach house some day!

@@littlegretchensworkshop7665 I will do that one of these days!
You mention all the ways we find furnishings- so true! Gifted, thrifted , made and bought! I bought a huge dollhouse off of craigslist about 7 or 8 years ago. I have a wonderful friend that I told about it at the time and he said that many years ago he built from scratch a fabulous dollhouse for himself , but had left it up north at his mother’s house and his nieces and nephews had totally destroyed it. 😢 All he had left were some boxes of furniture and accessories and many were broken up. He had them stashed away in storage closets and told me they were mine when he’d find them. Slowly but surely he started bringing me boxes of the most amazing stuff ever! This went on for months and months. He kept finding them! I was busy with the glue and it turned that house into a masterpiece! Beautiful artisan pieces. He was so happy to see them fixed up and back in a house ! The details make the houses REAL! Collecting and creating is part of the joy!

Hiya 🌞, just found your channel! My grandees have found my "playing with making miniatures" has given me " relevance" as they learn about recycling! I've gone from the producer of " cute tiny things" to someone who can imagine alternative uses😊 for even the smallest of " garbage" materials, that are fun/ free occupations they enjoy doing with their friends. At my age, l remember a childhood filled with such play-a far cry from todays modern toy lines- that don't appear to encourage deeper thinking/problem solving/dexterity and the sense of achievement with fun that encourages communication and collaboration with more discussions and tolerance of opinions. So whilst l learn about this device, they learn respect for others and themselves! Nice to listen in on their chats, which are no longer limited to smart phones and the like!(Also less hassles over " who" puts the garbage out!!)lve been using the inside of wine caps to make clip on lids for tupperware withbases from film/ pill bottle canisters. Looking forward to furthur viewing, best wishes, J.I.M.K Mrs. Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺 ❤ 😊

Hi Damien! WELCOME TO LITTLE GRETCHEN'S WORKSHOP!☺️ I'M SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE! It's AMAZING how things like saving and using common household items or Trash has evolved into a whole movement 🤭. When my Daddy got my 1st house back in the 70's he taught me that I could MAKE ANYTHING with a little imagination! Sometimes I didn't want to hear that because I wanted to go to the Store and buy BEAUTIFUL MASS PRODUCED ITEMS! For a long time I didn't value My handmade ooak miniatures! I am so grateful he taught like he did! I taught my children how to CREATE WITH NOTHING..... BUT SCRAPS. It helped develop their imaginations! No kit, no directions no rules other than safety. They would come up really great things! I think it's Great you are working with your kids to do the same! It helps them to think "outside the Box"😅.... literally! I really believe that Imagination needs to be encouraged in children TODAY! Great job! Thank you for being here and your feedback l appreciate it❤️!

It’s an older video and I just ran into it,I really appreciate it this video to the point I’m very curious to see all these wonderful projects that you have done, so of course I have to subscribe! I have enjoyed miniature since I was little girl my sister used to make furniture out of scraps around the house 🏠 many years ago let’s say at least 55 years ago and she’ll make clothing for my dolls out of socks and doing Christmas time she’ll wrap the miniature items, some little favor, like a present for Christmas place to tree for me, and all the little clothing she made from pieces of leftover clothing use top bottles tops from cans of hairspray for table tops or lounge chairs she’ll make furniture, she's very creative and my mom used to decorate the Christmas tree with miniature little houses and of course I badly wanted to get into those little houses so bad I busted a little windows out, They were made out of plastic because I felt the windows need to be open lol 😂and that’s when I began to start enjoying and appreciating miniatures, I do not have have a miniature home. I just decorate miniatures around the house on bookshelves and underneath the television, I have an open concept home. You know when you have that stand up television there was empty space created open concept home so basically it’s a conversation piece with my China cabinet, I happen to find a miniature China set that matches my 45 year old adult China set so I’ll be putting in the China cabinet a dining table which will need to be decorating the table setting, which I accidentally found and I mean spitting image of my adult China set so in the China cabinet I have a dining room inside the China cabinet. I think that will be real cute , I use miniatures to decorate certain areas around the house , I do not want to get a dollhouse not as of now I know maybe I'll be too consumed, so I’m enjoying like I said before just for decoration with some of the miniature pieces around the house,, it is so much fun especially if someone asked me, do I have any bottled water or a Pepsi or even some potato chips or a little snack? I told them sure' I’ll go into my open concept kitchen get a bottle of water or Pepsi and a bag of chips Of course they’re miniature and the people fall out laughing, lol 😂 they're wonderful, conversation pieces anyway I enjoyed your video. Have a wonderful day.😘👩🏾‍🦲👀

I was using scraps and trash to make Dollhouse miniatures before I knew recycling was a thing!🤭 But it is wonderful to create with what other people would have thrown away! I definitely will have more trash to treasure content! Thank you for allowing me to share! I appreciate you, and thanks again! 😊💖
