Victoria mixed media artist, Blythe Scott's, artwork depicts the wonder, beauty, and emotional essence of the places she has been. Originally from Scotland, Blythe is drawn to the textures of the urban landscape, frequently scaling rocky hills and parking garages to get a birds eye view of the landscapes she wishes to portray.
We visited Blythe in her home studio to learn about her approach to art making, capturing her process from venturing out into the city with a sketchbook and camera, to developing her work with paint, found objects, and intuitive vigor!

i am an artist myself but i have never seen such freaking awesome work . only a person with magic thinking can create a masterpiece like this in her every work ::)

I quite like your boldness of color, technique, and methods! You are a very talented woman! I too enjoy pushing the limits of what a said medium is supposed to be used for or how! I get joy at the surprise on people’s faces when they figure out what some of the things are I use in my art! Paint what and how things make you happy and you shall never truly have to work a day in your life!

Just like you, art was an instinctively natural skill, yet mine was definitely not nurtured....only now at 45 (look no more than 25), beginning to exploit my skills - watching TH-cam videos to fathom right methods and practices to creating outstandingly gorjuss pieces! - I love your spontaneity with the immediate world - separates your unique style from those who rely upon vast oceans of recreation to speak a universal language, unnecessary to the visual platform of art - I am not studied in any field, yet follow a distinctively individual theme - your own projects are hugging- inspirational to me. Would eat my own heart to spend time with you, sharing ideas if could!.

I have a desire deep inside that needs to come out in my art, it has to do with emotion, and just recently I have time to devote to my art, and am very excited but yet I have like a hunger to create something, I feel it but can't see it yet. Mixed media is a great type of art if you don't have OCD.
You are so right about this! I, sometimes, have a tendency to get a bit OCD(ish), and it completely halts my creative process. When I’m free thinking, my art just flows. Something for me to pay attention to for sure. Thanks for writing about it, Jocelyn!

Amazing art! Just wish I had all of the impressive art materials you have and awe-inspiring scenery! - Can't afford either, yet do have plenty of imaginative-creativity and drive toward spontaneous craft, plenty of unique talent - such a competitive world out there - just wish I didn't feel so intimidated!. I am a mature adult survivor of horrific-trauma, my art isn't about that, yet about journalese now......Hope you can courage me to help me reach my potential?

I think what makes her great, and unlike many other artists including myself(I wouldn't really call myself an artist tho) is that she is NOT a perfectionist.
She makes art, simply because she does. She doesn't think "I will make it like this, and it HAS to look exactly like it"
