When she said ‘genovia will cease to exist as we know it’ she didn’t mean it’ll stop existing she meant there would be a new royal family which would cause a huge change in the government and culture after hundreds of years of their family ruling so it wouldn’t be the same as it is now (and she does actually have power it’s not like England)
22:03 I know you didn't include it in the reaction but when she slipped on the stairs it was unscripted but Anne Hathaway played it off so well & it was so in line with Mia's character being clumsy that they kept it in the movie
The princess diaries is based on a book series by Meg Cabot. Disney required the movie rights even before the first book was published and the first book was published in 2000. They're 12/14 books in the series.
fun fact there is actually a very small country between france and spain, but it’s called Andorra so i guess either they thought the name didn’t sound as good or just didn’t know it existed

One of my favorite childhood movies, can't tell you how many times I rewatched it! Please watch The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement, it's so good.
9:20 guys... painters study abroad. She probably went to a really good college that had programs for art students to study abroad. I have an amazing watercolorist friend in New York who did that in his college years. We have a print of a watercolor he did of my aunt on their trip to Germany. It's a thing😅 Honestly, I wish i had gone to a higher schooling to try to get in one of those programs.
It's a consulate - kind of like an embassy yeah. Basically where you go for official business or events related to a certain country for citizens of said country living/visiting overseas.
They say in an interview in the movie that the moms place is a refurbished firehouse, that’s why it has the pole and the high levels. It’s made me want to live in one myself ever since🖤
Anne Hathaway is such a beautiful person. She fit this role so well. I was kind of sad not to see the reaction from ice cream scene where she smears it on Lana’s shirt. That’s one of my favorite parts lol also you guys should react to 10 things I hate about you. That’s one of my favorites too
I got a kitten back in 2020 and at the time I was reading the book series that this movie is based on and I named my cat Mia because of this 😂❤ also this movie was my first DVD when switching over from VHS tapes 🤭
the real country between France and Spain is called the principality of Andorra.population 79k in 2021. is one of the smallest countries in Europe. I think they have representation in the UN.
I would love to see a reaction on the first Greek series on Netflix, Maestro in blue. So many people worked hard and the result is stunning, from the cinematography to the acting and the great music! Give it some love ❤
14:42 Fun Fact: Julie Andrews and Héctor created the romance between their characters it wasn't in the script. They presented their idea to the director Garry Marshall and he loved their chemistry so much he wrote it in the movie!!! 🎬
About Lilly: It's become popular now to hate her and say she's a bad friend but I don't get that at all. Yeah she was a jerk in the car because of Mia's make-over but as soon as she told her the truth she apologised AND stood up for her at school. Plus, she kept her secret and didn't try to take advantage of her status. If anything, Mia was a bad friend. She promised Lilly she would be on her show but she was a no-show (to be with a boy she liked who was a jerk even before he kissed her) AND didn't even let her know about it which made Lilly look like an idiot on live TV. Yet, when Mia apologised she immediately forgave her. Lilly literally had one bad moment and she was a 'bad friend' but for 95% of the movie she was a good and supportive friend. Anyways, this movie was literally my childhood. So many fun facts about it: It is based on a book of the same name by Meg Cabot. There are some huge differences though, like Queen Clarisse is not nice at all and her & Mia don't have a good relationship (she is also the one who outs Mia as a princess to the press). Mia lives in New York instead of San Francisco, her dad is alive in but has cancer and Mia & Michael don't get together until much later. However, the second movie just erases the rest of the books and takes a whole different direction. At first I was really pissed about that but the movie is so good (not as good as this one but still good) and it's got Chris Pine! If you haven't seen them, Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music are a must! And fun fact: Miss Andrews also voiced Queen Lillian, Fiona's mother, in Shrek 2-4. Also, other Anne Hathaway movies I recommend are Ella Enchanted, Valentine's Day, Alice In Wonderland, Les Misérables and The Intern. Michael is played by Robert Schwartzman who's real life band, Rooney, appears as the character's band. He is related to the Coppola family and Nicolas Cage. He wanted to change his last name in the credits to Cage in honor of his cousin but the movie's promotional material had already been finalised. Lana is played by Mandy Moore who voiced Rapunzel in Tangled and has starred in movies such as A Walk To Remember, Saved!, Chasing Liberty, License to Wed and 47 Meters Down as well as NBC's hit series This Is Us. She is also a singer. Lilly is played by Heather Matarazzo. She was also in Saved! and in Scream 3 & 5. She once revealed she was scheduled to attend a meeting on the 15th floor of the World Trade Center on 9/11 shortly after the attacks occurred but she overslept. Joe is played by Héctor Elizondo who has been in pretty much every movie Garry Marshall has directed - including Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride, Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve. He has also been on shows such as Chicago Hope and Last Man Standing. Charlotte is played by Kathleen Marshall, director Garry Marshall's daughter IRL. His twin granddaughters also appear as the little girls who ask Mia for autographs and Garry himself, along with his wife and sister, has a cameo as a guest at the ball. Paolo is played by Larry Miller who has also been in many Garry Marshall movies, as well as 10 Things I Hate About You and The Nutty Professor. He was also on the show Mad About You which starred Lisa Kudrow as Ursula Buffay (her character was incorporated into Friends as Phoebe's twin because of Lisa). Helen, Mia's mum, is played by Caroline Goodall has been in movies such as Schindler's List, Cliffhanger, Hook and Chasing Liberty (in the last one she plays Mandy Moore's mum). Vice Principal Gupta is played by Sandra Oh who is best known for her roles as Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy and Eve on Killing Eve. Baroness von Troken is played by Bonnie Aarons who plays the demon nun in The Conjuring movie franchise (mainly The Nun). During her audition, Anne Hathaway fell out of her chair and was immediately given the part as clumsy Mia Thermopolis. She was literally born for this role. Also, Garry Marshall's granddaughters watched the tapes of actresses auditioning for the role and they told him he should hire her because she had "good princess hair". This was her first movie role her and breakout role-she was 18. Speaking of being clumsy... Mia falling on the bleachers was not scripted. Anne Hathaway slipped on a puddle while doing the scene and director Garry Marshall thought it was so funny that he inserted it in the final cut. Furthermore, the dinner scene when Mia accidentally sets the guy's arm on fire, the flames were supposed to go out when he put his arm in the ice bucket but they didn't. Anne panicked and threw the glass of water on it. Also, in that scene a waiter says "it happens all the time" - The same actor plays a waiter in Pretty Woman who says the same line to Julia Roberts' character. Both movies were directed by Garry Marshall. Amanda Bynes, Scarlett Johansson, Emmy Rossum and January Jones auditioned for the role of Mia while Alyssa Milano turned it down, fearing being typecast for playing girl-next-door characters. Dame Helen Mirren was considered for the role of Queen Clarisse. Laura Prepon was offered the role of Lilly but turned it down. Mia's cat Fat Louie was portrayed by four different cats, one of whom was actually Anne Hathaway's own cat. Each cat served a different purpose: one was meant to be carried, another sat still for extended periods of time, a third was used for jumping and stunts and the final (Anne's) is in the movie's final scene. The photo of Mia's father in the movie's opening scenes is a photo of Anne Hathaway's dad. He is also the one you see in the flashback scene when she's reading the letter. It was Anne Hathaway's idea that the brush should break. She had to wear a clip-in hairpiece to create Mia’s hair pre-makeover and it was affectionately nicknamed "the beast" by the cast and crew. Her eyebrows took about an hour to apply as each tiny hair had to be individually glued in place. It was also Anne's idea to have the pore strip on her nose during the scene when Michael comes with Mia's car. In that scene Mia is also watching one of the movie's deleted scenes. During filming of the tea scene in the garden and the greenhouse scene, airplanes were flying over the area. When the scenes were finished, Garry Marshall gave Anne Hathaway and Dame Julie Andrews awards for "best acting in airplane interference". While filming the final dance scene, Madonna's "Like A Prayer" was played on a boom-box to get natural dancing from the actors on-set (to be then dubbed over by the song that appeared in the final cut - Miracles Happen by Myra) and the actors kept mouthing the words to the song. The on-screen relationship between Clarisse and Joe was not scripted. They just had so much chemistry, especially during the dance rehearsal scene which was improvised. For the first half of the movie, Clarisse wears only black and dark outfits. After Joe says "You've been wearing black too long" during their dance, she starts to add more color to her wardrobe. It is later revealed that her husband, King Rupert, had passed away the previous year. This can be interpreted as her still mourning his death, but as she falls in love with Joe her personality becomes alive and colorful again. The movie was co-produced by Whitney Houston. The scene in which Mia smears her ice cream cone on Lana's cheerleader uniform was her idea. The movie was filmed on the same sound stage Mary Poppins was filmed, which has since been named "The Julie Andrews stage". The rental house in which Julie Andrews lived while filming Mary Poppins was lived in by Garry Marshall while filming this movie. The castle at the end is the Longford Castle located just south of Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. Garry Marshall's favorite saying while making a movie "Everybody works!" was loosely translated into Latin to become the Genovian motto "Totus corpum laborat". The pillow Fat Louie is lying on at the end has that phrase. Towards the beginning of the movie when Mia is on the way to school, she crosses the street on her scooter where a limo passes behind her - It's Clarisse's limo. When Clarisse first sees Mia she says "Let me take a look at you". This is the same line Julie Andrews' character says in The Sound of Music when she meets the children. During the makeover, Paolo calls Mia's eyebrows Frida and Kahlo- Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist who had a unibrow. He also mentions Brooke Shields and Groucho Marx who were both known for their thick, dark eyebrows. There's a short mid/post-credit scene where Mia tries to kick the ball but falls instead. Sorry if this is too long. Kudos to you if you read all that 👍🏻
I read the whole thing and a lot of it was quite interesting information! ❤ One thing I noticed, you did mention Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, and the Shrek series at two separate points (once near the beginning and the other time was near the end) so you may want to edit that part 😊🤷 Also, thank you for educating me on the correct spelling of Lilly's name! I always default to one "l" for some reason which I learned from you today is incorrect! ❤
That’s not true at all . She DID try to take advantage of MIA’s status. That was the only point of why she invited Mia to her cable show, so more people would start watching Shut up and Listen. Not to forget that at the start Mia says something to the effect of “at least your dad is still around” and Lilly flat out tells her get over it, your Dad’s been dead for TWO months. Why would you care? You didn’t even know your father. Lilly acts as if Mia isn’t allowed to feel anything. We aren’t going to go into the limo ride, in which she talks Mia down and insults her look the whole ride to school. Joe could see Mia was hurt even by a glance, so Lilly could very well see how it’s making her BFF feel. While Lilly isn’t the worst, she was a pretty crappy person when it came to talking to Mia
@@stevenperez845 Again, she had one or two moments where she was a jerk but so did Mia, yet people don't seem to hate her. Also, what's wrong with wanting more views for your show? That doesn't mean she was trying to take advantage of her status. It's not like she was Josh or Lana and her friends who were literally horrible to her until they found out she was a princess. To me, all this sudden hate against Lilly just seems so forced.
Why does her friend need to tell her that she’s a princess before she start’s supporting her? Lily is a bad friend here. It was obvious Mia was nervous about the change (she even started crying and wiping her tears while lily was sitting right next to her) but lily didn’t care. As a good friend you support your friend, you don’t shame them and insult them because they did something new with their look and you don’t like it. The fact that lily switched up so fast when she learned about her being a princes makes it even worse. Also saying “friends tell” to pressure your friend into telling you something they don’t feel comfortable telling you is toxic.
1.mandie Moore is the mean girl. 2. Mia's dad is dead, his older brother was first in line but stepped down and her dad had to be king after already falling in love with Mia's mom. they all decided she will live with her mom in the states with no knowledge of her lineage. but then he died 2 months before the movie starts. since Mia was the only child, even out of wedlock, she was first in line for the thrown. 3. her mom is a successful artist and they live in an old fire station 4.this is all based on a book series which is nothing like the movie. 5. the country would be ruled by some other family if mia does not take the thrown.
the 5th point got cleared up in 2nd movie with Chris Pine's character Nicholas having a claim to the Genovian throne, which would mean that if Mia does not take the throne, lineage will continue with Nicholas's name instead of the Renaldis.
@samriddhigupta5514 Yes but I didn't want to reveal that plot line because they hadn't seen the 2nd movie and in this one we're lead to believe that the baron will assume the thrown.
That’s how I feel, but the only thing a bit annoying is them like pausing every 5 secs to discuss something 😭 then the good part gets cut from the movie
13:40 Fun Fact: In her Audition, Anne accidentally fell off her chair and that's when they knew they had found their Mia Thermopolis. That's probably why they had her fall in the movie too!
You gotta love some Anne Hathway and Julie Andrews while Nick and Cory get in touch with their inner princesses. These series were the last time Julie Andrews ever sang 🥲❤️🩹

Lilly flat out tells her get over it, your Dad’s been dead for TWO months.
@@sorchamiana Thanks for that! And don't worry, I used to think it was only one l for the longest time too 😆
Why does her friend need to tell her that she’s a princess before she start’s supporting her? Lily is a bad friend here. It was obvious Mia was nervous about the change (she even started crying and wiping her tears while lily was sitting right next to her) but lily didn’t care. As a good friend you support your friend, you don’t shame them and insult them because they did something new with their look and you don’t like it. The fact that lily switched up so fast when she learned about her being a princes makes it even worse. Also saying “friends tell” to pressure your friend into telling you something they don’t feel comfortable telling you is toxic.
you should do george of the jungle, home alone 1-3, baby's day out, and aliens in the attic
You guys would have your minds blown by watching both Pearl and X!!!!!!
Watch Ella enchanted next😊 it also has Anne Hathaway
1.mandie Moore is the mean girl.
2. Mia's dad is dead, his older brother was first in line but stepped down and her dad had to be king after already falling in love with Mia's mom. they all decided she will live with her mom in the states with no knowledge of her lineage. but then he died 2 months before the movie starts. since Mia was the only child, even out of wedlock, she was first in line for the thrown.
3. her mom is a successful artist and they live in an old fire station
4.this is all based on a book series which is nothing like the movie.
5. the country would be ruled by some other family if mia does not take the thrown.
She wasn't out of wedlock though. Her mom says they divorced quietly.
the 5th point got cleared up in 2nd movie with Chris Pine's character Nicholas having a claim to the Genovian throne, which would mean that if Mia does not take the throne, lineage will continue with Nicholas's name instead of the Renaldis.
@samriddhigupta5514 Yes but I didn't want to reveal that plot line because they hadn't seen the 2nd movie and in this one we're lead to believe that the baron will assume the thrown.
Please watch the second one, ite so fun and a great sequence!
Cory is very Michael Moscovitz coded, I guess. He could be in a band. He'd see us even if we're invisible.
The 11-11:30 mark had me stop curling my hair listening with my mouth open. Dropping some knowledge 🤌🏽

Guys, is it possible you bring back the beep for every cuss word? I love cuss words but I find it a bit annoying when the sounds get muted T.T
That’s how I feel, but the only thing a bit annoying is them like pausing every 5 secs to discuss something 😭 then the good part gets cut from the movie
Tbh I think the 2nd one is more enjoyable so I hope y’all do that
i definitely think you should watch the second movie

13:40 Fun Fact: In her Audition, Anne accidentally fell off her chair and that's when they knew they had found their Mia Thermopolis. That's probably why they had her fall in the movie too!
