When I watch technique videos, I'm always in awe of whoever figured these things out! Thanks, Suzanne for another great instructional video. You are my go-to teacher.
Jan D: I agree with you. This video has explained both techniques so clearly. It progresses slowly enough. The camera work shows each stitch and step . And, like you, I too am in awe of the minds that figured out the techniques.
This was a great tutorial! Thank you! Your directions were very clear and I found myself saying, "Knit off, purl on, purl off, knit on," which helped me! : ) Thank you!
I have been trying to do the Italian bind off for the last 4 hours with zero success, 4 minutes with you and I’ve got it! Such a clear explanation, especially when you likened it to Kitchener stitch. Thank you so much, you are an amazing teacher.
Everytime I want to use this bind off I come back to your video, and everytime I'm like "yes, I'll definitely remember it this time" And yet here I am, again 🤣 Thank you so much for this tutorial xx
Thank you. I always find your videos so helpful. Not only do you show the method but you explain the why. This makes all the difference for my understanding.
I was so confused about how to do the Italian BO until I found this video! I read a ton of articles that just made me more confused, and this cleared it all up. Thank you so much!
I cannot thank you enough for your videos! You have the best demonstrations and explanations. You are a marvelous teacher and an incredible gift to the knitting community! Thank you!!
Thank you Suzanne! I love your videos! I have watched many videos on the Italian and Tubular bind off, but yours was by far the easiest and clearest to follow.
Clearest explanation of these two similar but different BO's. I also now understand why some people do the tubular on two needles, but honestly, that seems like an unnecessary complication to me. And seeing that the Italian BO (on one needle) is actually stretchier is helpful!!! Thank you!
Oh thank you Suzanne! I’ve been putting the knits and purls on to two separate needles, then kitchenering, since 1979! This is so more civilized ❤️ and 4 rounds is just perfect! You gave me a gift of satisfaction-now on to the second cuff!
Suxanne, love your videos. I own a yarn shop and share your videos with my students. There are lots of videos online, but I tell them that if they want to learn to do something correctly, you are the source! Thanks so much for your time and effort creating these videos. They are always clear, precise and make it easy to learn the techniques.
Love this video. I finally understood how to do Italian BO. I knit in continental and I couldn’t understand watching others. This is by far the best Italian and Tubular BO video. Thanks so much!
Thank you for walking through this so clearly. Just used it to bind off a cowl that ended in 1x1 rib with a ‘bind off in pattern’. Haha…no. I knew this bind off existed but I couldn’t remember how it went. Best explanation I found. Thank you and if you see this, Happy New Year, Suzanne!
Thank you so much for this one- it was exactly what I needed. I’d been struggling, because the tubular bind-off was bulkier than I wanted; and I had waded through videos of Kitchener (the recommended bind-off for the particular project) that just didn’t work for me! Usually I go straight to your videos, but somehow I missed this one. You saved the day, and I’m going to share the info by referring people on my project page on Ravelry to this video. I’ve learned so much from you in the last couple years and I’m very grateful!
Suzanne, I might flipping love you! I was trying the tubular for a good 40 minutes and for whatever reason, my brain wasn't getting it and I hated how it looked plus it wasn't stretchy. I came to your video since it *also* has the tubular, but I watched the Italian version first and it just clicked. I picked up the kitchener stitch on my first try with it too, so that probably helped, but I was truly about to just go to a regular bind off until I found your video! Thank you so much!!
@@SuzanneBryan It was super helpful. Thanks to you (and countless repetitions of "knit off, purl on; purl off, knit on"), I just finished the Italian bind-off all the way around the bottom hem of my first sweater. Love how it turned out! You're an exceptionally gifted teacher. After watching my second video from your channel (on eliminating holes when picking up stitches for the sleeves), I knew I had to subscribe. Thank you again!
Great explanation, thank you Suzanne. After repeating a few times "knit off, purl on, purl off, knit on", I got it. I love your videos. Thanks from Gerrmany.
Thank you so much for this one. I’ve tried it out on my v-neck 1x1 rib cast off, and it looks so much neater than simple cast off. Sits flatter too, especially in the V where I could adjust the ‘snugging up’. Well worth the extra time spent, so this one is a new favourite. Your P off K on, K off P on is simply perfect - so easy to get into a rhythm 😍🥰
Thanks Suzanne, another brilliantly described and demonstrated skill. You are my go to person for all knitting techniques as you are so clear and easy to understand with your explanations. I've just mended a sweater cuff using this method and it looks really great.
Thank you for this thorough tutorial! I was struggling with the difference between Italian & tubular bind off, this explains perfectly. Also the tip about doing the last row of ribbing in a needle 2 sizes smaller was so helpful :)
Merry Christmas, Suzanne! I thank you for your marvellous videos. They have helped me immensely with my knitting. You are my go-to knitter when I have a challenge to address. Please keep these videos coming. They are so helpful. Hope your 2021 is blessed with health and happiness.
A very tidy method for ribbing - having been a machine knitter I adopted the "sew off" method (rather than the traditional bind off) back then. This created an edge similar to the cast on edge. I will definitely try this Italian method as it seems a natural extension to what I am doing already and looks great!
@@SuzanneBryan it was the third video I watched. More than just how-to, I wanted to see the comparison of the different edges. Exactly what I needed. I’m also interested in the ruke cast off, but can quickly just do a swatch with Italian vs ruke to compare.
I DID IT!!! Thanks Suzanne! I did the Italian bind off on the ribbing at the bottom of my first sweater. It took forever and I was afraid to stop mid way but I love it. Now I can finally go pee.
Thanks for this video! Used it today but I was using wool roving and I am so glad that I only had 15 stitches to bind off! It turned out wonderful but I had to be so careful with my yarn. I will use this technique again! :)
Thanks! The book "Cast On, Bind Off' calls this Invisible Ribbed Bind-off (p. 197) but most patterns don't use that term, so this has cleared up a lot for me.
Thank you! I really have to do more socks and collars so I remember that bind off instead of looking it up every time. Also, I need to turn on a lamp and feed the cat before I start. :)
I have to say this is the BEST tutorial, time-efficient and clear! I understood after watching order videos but this one helps save time by doing two stitches at once! Could you please make another one to show the difference btw 4 slipped rows and 2 slipped rows in tubular bind-off as you mentioned? Also mine looks like there is a horizontal line in my tubular bind off. Why is that..??
Thank you so so much. That was very clear. My pattern called for 2 rows of double knit then Italian bind off so I was confused but not now ;)) It’s a stretchier hybrid than full tubular. Tra la la.
I love this bind off. I had just done it on a sweater. Ur video now makes it much clearer. Could u show how to handle a mistake? When u have to back up some stitches and restart. I found that a challenge. Thank you for all ur help with all aspects of knitting.
Suzanne, I love your tutorials!! Whenever I need advice, I end up with you. And your videos are so detailed and well explained... Please keep going and THANK YOU!!!
Great and easy explanation. thank you so much for this. can I ask how we should start the setup and the next step if the first stitch is a no-knit edge, and the second one is actually the knit one? I'm a bit confused about that. thanks in advance.
If the purl stitch is first, then you go through the purl as if to knit, leave it on the needle, go through the knit as if to park, leave it on the needle, then go through the purl as if to purl and let if off the needle, go through the next purl as if to knit. Hi Suzanne. Can you use either of these bind offs for the ribbing at the bottom of a sweater? Which one would be best? Thank you so much. You've done such a good job explaining this, making it clear and user friendly!!!
If knitting in the round could the tubular BO accomindate a draw string? For example around the neck of a sweater. This looks very nice. Thank you and Merry Christmas! 🎅🎄
Thank you for this video. Demonstrates the technique so well. With an odd number of stitches for 1x1ribbing and starting with purl stitch for ribbing would I just begin Italian bind off with a purl stitch?
Hi! Thank you for the video and the clear instructions. I love this bind off as it gives a very “finished” look. Have you ever done it in large number of stitches, i.e the hem of a sweater?
@@SuzanneBryan great, thank you! Any tips on how not to tangle the very long tail that’s needed? If my hem is 32” around that means I need at 128” inches of tail. I am intimidated by that!
@@KS-ew8ml I find it helps to untangle your yarn every so often, and to move the folded over end further up (or down) the tail as I find that when it decides to tangle it usually does it in the same spot. Also, I find that keeping my thumb or finger firmly holding the stitch I'm going to do next helps quite a bit. Many thanks to Suzanne for such a helpful instructive video.
Merry Christmas Suzanne! Thank you for another year of excellent videos.
